  1. Thanks for your replies. I'll keep an eye open for leaks.
  2. When I bought my 300Tdi a few weeks ago I found that the garage I'd bought it from had overfilled the engine oil by about half a litre. As soon as I found out I drained out the extra but it probably did a couple of hundred miles before I noticed. Could this have caused any damage? Thanks.
  3. I managed to make the change on my 300 Tdi last weekend and I'm not convinced that it's made any improvement at all. In fact, it may actually be slightly worse :-( As far as I could see the EGR valve was closed when I took it off and while the intercooler hose did have some muck in it, it didn't look too bad. Is there anything I could have done wrong? The blanking plate seems fine and there's no blowing of the exhaust. The intercooler hose looks fine, the original hose was partly metal so would have retained it's shape, is there anyway it could be partially closing? It looks a fairly substantial hose to me. What do people do with the EGR ECU? I just left it alone and disconnected the plug from the EGR and covered the connector with a small plastic bag to keep it dry.
  4. Great, thanks for the picture. Looks very stable. You obviously don't have the same problem.
  5. I've been looking at the Maxxraxx products and they do seem very good. However, I understand from Maxxraxx that in order for it to working with a sliding tow bar, the tow bar needs a modification. Maxxraxx describes it as "we drill into the sliding plate and insert a couple of grub screws". Clive, is this the type of tow bar that you have? If so, did you make this mod as it seems like a bit of a hack to me. Thanks.
  6. Sorry, a bit slow on the uptake. Finally understood what you mean. The collar closest to the speedo needs to be squeezed. There are two pieces further away from the speedo which look like they should be squeezed :-) but they don't do anything. Finally got the cable off. Thanks for the help Western.
  7. Ah ok, thanks Malcolm. I'll give that a go in the morning. I hadn't quite got to the levering it off with a crowbar stage :-) Thanks, Andy
  8. I know this is a silly question but my hands are getting very sore trying to get the speedo cable out of the speedometer. Haynes just says "disconnect the speedometer cable" - YES BUT HOW? It must be easy, but I can't see how.
  9. Thanks for your suggestions, I can see this isn't going to be an easy choice. I'm a little confused by the Pendle site as they suggest that the 3 bike behind the ball rack is not suitable for a 4x4 with external spare wheel. There is a "Two ball Landrover rack" but that supports the frame rather than the wheels. Regarding the Thule it does look as if you're right that the spare would stop the closest rack being used :-(
  10. Thanks, good point about keeping everything. Let's hope I don't break anything taking it off, plenty of WD40.
  11. Anybody know if this mod would change the cost of insurance?
  12. As we've only just bought our 1998 Tdi300 this could well just be user error! Sorry if this is a stupid question. We want to be able to set the alarm so that the internal sensors are disabled but the doors are still alarmed. The manual says to set the alarm with the door open, then when the door is closed the alarm is set but the internal sensors are not activated. Unfortunately my wife found that this didn't seem to work on a recent visit to a supermarket, she wasn't best pleased :-( Any thoughts gratefully received. Thanks.
  13. Does anyone have any experience with bike racks for 3 bikes to fit to the tow bar? I've been looking at the Thule Rideon 9403 and I wondered if anyone had tried this on a LWB or have any other suggestions? One of the bikes has a child seat on the back, anyone tried this? Thanks.
