  1. I'm near Wellingborough I've just taken the handle off again and deep in the handle recess there is a screw but that's the only one. If I pop out the courtesy light and have a feel the whole panel is held in by plastic pop studs through the roof lining. I suppose I need to work carefully around the panel with a blunt knife or scraper trying to pop these back through the roof lining. The part you bought, was it a complete unit with a new square drive for the handle to attach to? Cheers.
  2. Hi Russ The handle just turns round without moving the mechanism, it literally spins freely. If I undo the screw that holds the handle on there is the square drive for the mechanism but that seems to be as far as it will strip out unless I've missed something. I'll have another look tomorrow and see if I missed some covers hiding some panel screws to expose the mechanism. I couldn't see a way to detach the plastic panel from the roof lining.
  3. I'm in need of some advice or pointers please. The rear sunroof on my Dicovery was leaking due a poor adjustment after an accident repair. My brother forced the handle to tighten it down and something "gave" so I now have a free floating glass panel taped down with gaffer tape. Wonderful!!!!! Anyone know if there is a shear pin in the linkage or if it likely to be a serious overhall and if there is anywhere in Northamptonshire that could repair it (or do I need a franchise dealer?)? It looks to me as though the roof lining needs to be dropped to access the mechamism, am I right? All advice appreciated.
  4. I had posted this as a reply in a different thread, thought it worth sticking here to show my Disco roof mod. Took my discovery for a new exhaust last summer and the idiot on the four poster ramp jacked it into the RSJ roof beam straight across the alpine windows but just behind the rear sunroof, here started my saga. I was 5 weeks with a Nissan X-trail courtesy car before I got mine back (the body shop had a knackered beyond repair roof delivered from landrover to start with). Ooops! Straight across! My new roof, at least it saved me having to wash the old one! For larger pics: http://i17.tinypic.com/2wqu5i9.jpg http://i15.tinypic.com/48q84sy.jpg http://i16.tinypic.com/2efnxhf.jpg
  5. Well it will now be Monday before I can attack the turbo again due to unforseen weekend commitments, thanks for all the advice. Will check the turbo/injector pump pipe, get a boost gauge and check the diaghragm in that order. Just hope one of these shows the way forward...... I'll post back my findings
  6. A friend told me the top hose should go almost rock hard but mine was nowhere near. I felt some pressure but not a massive amount. I'm sure the turbo is blowing - as per the highly technical hand over hose test - just maybe not to required pressure. I've been too busy today to spare any time on it so I'll have a crack over the weekend. I'll check the pipe to injector pump and if it's sound and clear I know the local firm of diesel injection specialists so I'll see if they have a diaphragm to fit.
  7. Thanks BogMonster The car is 10 miles away so I can't run out to it at the moment but I know for certain that both ends of the turbo/pump pipe are connected so I'll have it out to check or bypass it with a new bit in case it's split. If it's the diaphragm is that an easily replaceable part?
  8. Took my discovery for a new exhaust last summer and the idiot on the four poster ramp jacked it into the RSJ roof beam straight across the alpine windows but just behind the rear sunroof, here started my saga. I was 5 weeks with a Nissan X-trail courtesy car before I got mine back (the body shop had a knackered beyond repair roof delivered from landrover to start with) but did I have a surpise, the built in shower. I hadn't noticed the position of the handle for the rear sun roof - whipped handle off turned it 90 degrees and cranked it up to the park position, all fine now. Check both your sunroofs, if one is slightly cracked open it's a problem. In mine the shower was always mine, right over the dash at the corner and also dripping from the rear view mirror. Ooops! Straight across! My new roof, saved me having to wash the old one! For larger pics: http://i17.tinypic.com/2wqu5i9.jpg http://i15.tinypic.com/48q84sy.jpg http://i16.tinypic.com/2efnxhf.jpg
  9. I was driving along in my '97 300tdi and sudden as you like suffered a dramatic loss of power, it feels for all the world like there is no turbo boost on the car. I had a split intercooler hose about 5 years ago and although they all looked fine this time I've changed them for silicone ones. I've also taken the opportunity to fit a non EGR top hose. My next thought, after checking the turbo spins freely by hand, was a split intercooler so rather than fart about pressure testing it I got a meter of 50mm ID hose and joined the turbo to manifold bypassing the intercooler. Still just as flat. Things get a bit more techie now, expect it is now possibly a wastegate problem. Has anyone had similar problems to throw some pointers to me please? The linkage appears connected on the wastegate but need to wait until tomorrow and it's cooled to check it further. Will check the turbo to injector pump pipe too in case that's splt. I suppose I should get a turbo boost gauge too but just holding my hand on the turbo hose there felt to be as much pressue as on my brothers pickup by comparison. If the wastegate is partially stuck open would that create these symptoms? I must admit I keep thinking I can hear something blowing but my brother who very rarely goes in this car can't. I know the vehicle better but it might be me wanting (?) to hear a problem. The only other point of issue is that it had a new cam belt about 500 miles back along with full service including fuel and air filters. With this in mind she sounds fine running up with head under bonnet so I don't think the timing has slipped. Many thanks in advance.
