yes the brackets where lined up 90 deg i dont know the make of the bearings i just orderd them of ebay
  5. ive just replaced the diff mountings and vcu bearings becouse of a thumping noise, now the noise has gone i have another issue when i drive the car its fine until i hit 30 mph then i get vibrations (seems to be from the back) its like a vibration and a drone that is not constant but fades in and out as im driveing(like a few seconds delay between)but seems to go ubove 40mph. i know that the diff conection is in the same possition as is the ird conection but unsure about vcu conections so i moved each one spline at a time about six times each was just in case it was out of balence but seemed to be on the marks i put but still the same problem. any one have any ideas? this seemed fine until i changed the vcu bearings.
  6. Finaly the new vcu bearings done the trick no more thumping or banging! The most difficult part I found was fitting the new washers .
  7. Before I removed propshafts I noticed the rear vcu bearing was not fitted 90 deg and on removal of shafts this bearing had severe damage to the rubber . I used a grinder to cut old vcu bearings outers off cut away the rubber and then a few gentle taps with a chisel and it's now ready for the new parts , let's hope it cures it this time .
  8. checked subframe and all is good . vcu bearing rubbers are worn bad ,i can see through the top of them and i can push the driveshft with my hand and it makes a thumping noise similar to what im getting so i think its the cause of my problem ,seems simple enough to change and priced at about 37£ . will do it this week and see how it goes.
  9. i replaced all diff mounting bushes with gen landrover ones and still the noise when slow speed turning?(old ones seemed fine) the ird seems fine ,no locking up on turning in reverse on gravel or tarmac . the only thing i can see is the vcu mounting bushes seem realy worn on top ,will this cause the noise?.
  10. Thanks again Gary I will test all that when I get a chance. It's an 04 with 56 thou on the clock so hopeing it's just the bushes, priced a kit at 48£ also vcu kit for 109£. Also another strange noise I have heard recently is a rattle from the front end! I thought it might have been the manifold heat shield becouse it's only at a certain rev range but taken this off and still the same ? Really annoying me though! Anybody come across this before?
  11. Cheers Gary how would I check the vcu?
  12. If I turn sharp slow speed right I hear a thumping sound coming from the rear left of the truck , it seems to be getting worst because it only used to do it now and again but now it happens at slow speed sharp left also. Any ideas ? Cheers Richard.
  13. Put a premixed antifreeze in today and went for a run slow roads motorways ext ext 30 miles and still no flow but no overheat and oil and coolant is good heaters are fine so I guess it's the way it is. Also not much pressure than usual in expansion tank.
  14. Yes it is considerably more mate , I thought it was heavy duty premixed :/
  15. pretty much the same its a 2004 so it has the upgraded thermostat but I'm going to drain the coolant because i was a bit generous on the mixing of it maybe thats keeping the temp down low enough for the thermostat not to open?
