A bit of a wierd one this...
For the last week or so, my 200tdi defender has been reluctant to start. I would turn the key, and all I would here is the "click" of the solenoid on the starter. Try again a couple of seconds later and she would turn over slowly and fire-up.
Thinking it was battery related I replaced the alternator and the battery. It was good for the first few times I started her but has now gone back to how she was before...
Now, this morning, she absolutly refused to turn-over, let alone start all I got was the click from the solenoid. Then there was another click from the fuse-box area, and all the dash lights went out.. I turned the ignition off, and tried again. Nothing, dead as a doornail!
Thinking it was a fuse, or a relay, I had a look in the fusebox, they were all fine. Then I checked any relays I could find and any connections or earthing points I came across.
While I was mooching about I noticed the dash lights were back on, so I gave her a try, she turned over slowly and fired!!
I turned the ignition off, and tried again, no problems. This got me thinking could a knackered starter or sticking solenoid present these symptoms?
