  1. hi again, since selling my landrover i've not been such a frequent visitor. thats correct about the data being stored on the tag that stays with the competitor. They are probably the most fragile bit but i see no reason why they cannot be zip tied etc onto a lanyard within the vehicle. it doesnt take much to keep them safe and the benefits over bits of laminated paper are obvious. print-outs etc even come with a break down of timings between checkpoints. the controls or checkpoints can be attached really securely to discourage any cheating! we often do this as the events are sometimes in very public places. we normally use cable swaged on the ends and padlocked together if necessary. the kits not cheap to buy (around a £4000 investment) but i can give you the email address of a friend who has a set and hires them out to cover their cost when their not being used, it includes courier delivery, laptop, printer ... the whole set-up. his email is: phil@wayaheadworld.com matt
  2. i work with the sport ident system a lot on adventure races, mountain marathons and orienteering events and can vouch for their durability. they are incredibly durable considering the abuse they get (rain, cold, ice, snow, mud, grit etc). a good example comes from a year ago when they were used on a kayaking section of a race. they were put out at low tide and our estimations of high tide were slightly off the mark, they were left submerged in salt water for over an hour and all survived fine. they can also be locked on with a cable through the hole where the tag is inserted to be 'punched' making it impossible to be moved. i have a friend who rents the whole kit out when they're not being used for events in order to cover the cost as they're not cheap as you say. if anyones interested in 'trialling' them for an event he can courier them with instructions etc. PM me if you fancy a go on them. matt
  3. thanks guys, i like the sound of the plastic electrical conduit. saved me a lot of swearing! matt
  4. hi, i'm having serious issues with the push rod between the slave cylinder and clutch. whilst removing the slave to replace it the pushrod came out with it. on the end was a nasty little plastic clip , ive now been thru 2 new ones and not suceeded in clipping it back into its slot, does anyone have any tricks up their sleave other than taking the engine off the bellhousing? ive tried grease and cleaning etc but still no joy. many thanks, matt
  5. might drop by in the afternoon if your still there, i live in downton and know a few routes. im away sat, pm me if you want my mobile so we can meet up.
  6. hi, yep it is a 300tdi so best if i stick it back on then as it sometimes blows a bit of smoke out, which makes me think somethings gone seriously wrong when im stationary. thanks for your help again
  7. i think thats the correst name but its the the tube that feeds back to the air intake. it was removed when i bought it and the connection on the air intake blanked off. it blows out a bit of oil and smoke, does it need to be reconnected or can i just leave it? i was told its purpose is to make the engine greener by reclycling some gases but not sure wether this is true? thanks, matt
  8. thanks for the advice. worked a treat and saved a great deal of time. just got to put the floor back in etc as i thought the box was coming out. bit of a change of topic but do you know if you can take the wires off and wire them to a switch that would run a work light at the back?
  9. i see, i'll give it a go and try taking it out for the moment as theres no reason for reverse to be broken. thanks, i'll let you know how i get on.
  10. the reverse light never worked beforehand as one of the connectors was snapped off. there's literally no drive when its in reverse. 1st 2nd and 3rd all work fine just no backwards movement when its selected. any advice is welcomed with open arms
  11. the stick goes up to where it should but no reverse movement. theres no grinding noises. its an LT77, any common problems anyone knows about? is it just a snapped shaft? if so is it eaier to replace the box or the shaft? thanks
  12. thanks for the responses. was chatting to someone today and they mentioned anderson connectors. think i might go with this idea as the batteries are secured properly and its less hassle to pop one on than relocate and lose space in the rear. does anyone know where you can get hold of the connectors fairly easily?
  13. hello, im fitting bucket seats at the moment and was all excited until after about 30 secs i realised there was going to be an issue with getting to the batteries. my thoughts are: to weld on a couple of hinges at the front of the runners so that when the back bolts are undone on the runners, the seats will lean forward and give me enough room to get at the compartment. any thoughts/pictures would be really helpful thanks, matt
