Mot advisories: what do these mean?
Landy-Novice replied to ronnie_rotten's topic in Discovery Forum
been a while since looking into it. in kit you get new anti roll bars. you remove pump etc and get a new idle pully and shorter belt. d2's are now pennies for older ones so there are many many cheap parts out there. which will help to keep the ace working. removing is last resort. kit is like 400 odd quid. -
Mot advisories: what do these mean?

frend of mine had a 5 seater which was on terriblefirma coils, PO said he converted it from bags, but someone will be along to confirm. depends whats been removed. it may have had coils but still ace fitted. which if leaking is a fail. there are ace removal kits available but you will really notice in corners if you have to go down that route. if there only advisarys, i wouldnt worry. tho the level linkage should have been a fail. but there only £20-30. vehicle structure is most likely rusty chassis. -

i wasnt aware that d2 had coils fiited as standard. only bags with ace. the rusty pipe advisary with probably be a one of the pipes for rear ace antiroll bar, these are a real pitfa to fit! especally getting them to seal in the valve block on the chassis. the rear load level sensor have a small limk arm that link to the rear trailing arms which snap(usually for zenon headlights, not suspention), very common. the corrosion adviasary is a worry as d2 suffer badly with rear end of the chassis rotting out, worse that any other LR. -
115mm/double core Intercoolers
Landy-Novice replied to TheKeymeister's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
mines not the best example but i also had to cut off the top mount that sits on the chassis for the panhard rod mount for lhd vehicles but mine is a bit of a mongrel. also trimmed an inch off cowling to clear it. note welds, tidier in real life. -

Landy-Novice replied to Reiny's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
wonder if you can try and remove the complete hub, cut of all the backs off the wheelstuds to split hub from spacer that should them allow access to the back of the spnnig stud in the spacer?? -
we got a customer with a 51plate d2 td5 with 300k, other than usual head gasket and oil cooler, its original engine and still going strong. tuned td5 manual gets my vote anytime.

The "Pass the Bucket" 4x4 For Sale on Ebay Thread

interesting. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262157449916 -
removing head is an absolute last resort! we use our head specilist who comes out to us and drills and retaps them out for a small fee compared to removing head (same goes with renault injecters!) my advice is to phone round some diesel specilists to see whats there advice. some may require you to leave vehicle with them, some come to you.

I disagree, it's common, much more so on people who ride the clutch or leave it depressed for long periods of time. Altho not LR, 110k and only changed as it was heavy, release bearing was fine.

Defender 200 tdi hybrid turbo
Landy-Novice replied to ianmayco68's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
ive seen there pop on fb recently. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LANDROVER-DISCOVERY-200TDi-T28-HYBRID-TURBO/171994757596?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3D1e5d1c0b7064413b821dff1e0ed2582a%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D181681006599 i think if they havnt already have them for sale for defender, they will soon be, buy many options for turbo upgade, weather 360 bearings or ball bearings for quick spool, different turbines etc then vvt/vnt but there still £1100.... many other vnts fit but controling them reliably without it surging/over boosting is the issue. -

what would be best option to use at the chasis end? i did think about rose jointed but they allow alot of driveline vibration to transmit through the rest of the vehicle and sway and 'chatter' when worn. poly bus hand souble cranked best way forwrards?

i am strongly concidering this xle conversion for some time. i have spoken to loads of people on this and have come to final conclusion that using d2 front arms all round (cutting second eye off front so they fit on rear) would require some easy to make brackets to weld on chassis, the front defender radius arm mounts need to be removed and on a 90, a smaller bracket is needed as tank in in the way. with the d2 arms all round makes good ride and allows best downwards acticulation (as arms are longer and better bushes at chassis ends), loads more than standard 90/110 arms and then some. but dont allow axles to twist over ruts etc which almost defeats the whole point. diffs are same lenght as 90/110 so props wont need changing. i have now come to decide that for me, cut off all mounts and weld d1/90/110 mounts from YRM so d2 axles will fit will all defender suspention with aframe. that will allow me to keep my chassis standard (ideal if you have a galv chassis) but i would use d2 axles with either double cranked or jonny joined arms for max down artiulation and cross axle ability. if you go d2 arms, then i beleive mikeys friend is develping a kit to make installation much easier.

How noisy should a Fuel Injection Pump be?
Landy-Novice replied to reb78's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
im assuming he means with viscous fan remved, you can use a fag paper to detect exhaust leaks. not what you want to hear but dont 200's 'tick' if headgasket has gone at cyl 4? also a mate of mine thourght his engine was knocking when over 1800rpm. so he reshelled bottom end to then realise that it was fip.. i cant really tell by your vid as there are to many other rattles, any change of a vid of it stationary? -
you mean A4. a2 is much lower than 8.8 tensile strenght.

M57 into 110 CSW
Landy-Novice replied to tacr2man's topic in Modified Vehicle Builds & Special Projects
i seen photos of the rakeway adaptors, there a work or art but iirc are around £4200+vat. pre 04 are easier to install as less wiring/simple ecu. but only 184 an 204hp, later ones are like 250hp. not sure by swirl pots? i assume you mean swirl flaps in the manifold? cheap removal kits on ebay. -
just use a small amp fused wire bridge across icolater. enought to keep tracker and alarm with power but blows as soon as they try and crank engine. beautiful dog! but some nice bacon and some cheap poison will soon stop him.. my choice would let them have the lot, but not my best companion. :(

yes its a fail. just welded that area up (chassis also spit) today on a mot failed d1 along with many other areas on the chassis.
