  1. I've put horrendous side pulls on NATO hitches and the crossmember buckles before the tow hitch! I've never seen a NATO standard tow hitch bend. Snatch recovery won't bend a NATO hitch on a land rover because you obviously do it in as straight a line as possible and use kinetic ropes properly...
  2. Daan, I bet it would be easier than most think! Just need some vision! My next truck is going to be an almost-Mid engined 6BT buggy so... :/
  3. try getting an electrical screwdriver around the same size and using as much brute force as you can turn it the right way. A skinny blade will grip the slightest of surfaces.
  4. I just take my snorkel off the end of my air box when I'm not going to be getting wet and muddy.
  5. Ignition lights on and twelve volts to the start solenoid. If it works it isn't the starter.
  6. I've used LR trade parts. Ask them for anything but britpart and they will point you in the right direction.
  7. Is the serp belt on correctly? Have you checked oil? Losing water would be a sign of a head gasket on the way out. Is it pressurising pipes? If the heater aren't working then I would try and bleed the system.
  8. I will be going ashcroft as long as I can get an ashcroft air locker. Not too soon as I need to save a bit to get it all in a oner. I have just had to fit another diff and long shaft, only way I go for that to keep price down is to get secondhand parts. I happened across a complete rear axle for £30.
  9. You are better off doing the B+E licence or go further and do your C+E. Be careful what you do with subjects like this. If you get it wrong then it can be a big fine amongst other things. Even wrong advice can land someone in hot water.
  10. I think it was the driver, I found out he had driven it until it pretty much didn't run anymore but didn't say first of all. I think it was a combination of old parts failing or close to end of life then when it started going wrong and he carried on it just dragged air in through the fuel pump and I think he was lucky to get home without running out of fuel. Running on vapours.
  11. Nearly got me killed in the desert. Twice. Any joy getting it going right?
  12. Just seen your sig, you aren't RAF reg? Bain of my life! You can get a new one or people bypass it. If you are still dragging air in try clamping the return pipe. And see if that makes any difference.
  13. Decided to try one last thing with this POS, it now runs. I towed it at 65mph and had it in fourth/fifth gear and aft about 3 miles it started to cough splutter, then run with a misfire and cut out and then towed it another mile or so and it now starts off the key. Seems that it had that much air in the fuel system that it couldn't purge it self. It also didn't help that all other parts were changed I don't think. But I had already tried tow starting it after having confirmed there were no faults on it and everything was working as it should.
  14. The £60-70 ones work, the all makes have a two year warranty. OEM you will be paying £200 plus. Check one way valves on filter housing pipes and all connections are in good condition before anything else. Just had major problems with one.
  15. :/ I've never worn anything but my recovery gloves and worked with some pretty well burnt out motors and I have had no adverse symptoms.
  16. Small fires with plastic and rubber will make lots of smoke but actually do very little damage apart from wiring. Replace the loom and other melted bits and turn it over. See if it leaks. If it doesn't jobs a goodun.
  17. Boredom got the better of me, stuck a new crank sensor in, the old one was definitely a bit worse for wear, but still no joy. Compression test is the last thing I think.
  18. Probably wait and renew on the 1st of October and keep proof. Unless you really want that last disc so you can see what your hard earned cash has bought you? Because it isn't going on the roads!
  19. That's a lot! I think all my bits came in at about £200 but it didn't need anything major. And I get everything at trade and sometimes even cheaper. No, I didn't completely ignore it, I haven't actually looked at it through being so Mildly miffed off with it! I'm not touching it until Monday when I will check the crank sensor, but no faults in the ECU doesn't fill me with any hope that it's that easy, it will get a compression test if it isn't crack sensor. If that's good then I will do the injector seals. If I still get no joy, it's getting cut up. I have been told it gets minimal money on it. It's cost almost as much as it's worth in the last few months.
  20. I'm around but would cost me a fortune to get to you in my V8. Lol.
  21. I've just rebuilt a V8 for the cost it's going to be in parts for the head gasket on a TD5. And it's more of a pita to be honest. I really hope he hasn't cooked it. Found out earlier on this evening he actually drove it back from London with the misfire it was getting worse then when he tried to start the car the next day it wouldn't start. Then it got towed to us. Got to love it when people tell the whole story.
  22. I was just hoping that wouldn't be the case. This was my diagnosis but another mechanics opinion is that it is fuel related as it doesn't even cough or try to start on turning over. Not sure if it is worth doing injectors etc to him. Piece of carp TD5.
  23. Steering damper or pan hard rod bushes are the worst culprits.
