  1. Try Academy

Insure me, and have done for last 20+ years (was Snowball) and have all mods

covered, oddly for an insurance compnay they employ staff that know WTF

mods are and what they do, even know what JED Rover V8 are biggrin.gif

    Nige

    I second these guys

I had the two racer's and the big 90 with them. The 4.2 auto 90 challenge truck with twin lockers and twin 8274-50's, LSE rear axle to name but a few in 2004 was still regarded by them as not that modded by them as they deal with rally teams etc...

  2. I'll second that - if it's a 1.8 then anything that goes wrong with it "must be the head gasket" (even if it's a flat tyre) and most people who "know about land rovers" really don't know anything about freelanders (just as they are terrified of anything with an ECU).

    laugh.gif

I think you have hit the nail on the head .

  3. I have a 2.0lt 98 freelander with 140k on the clock its my forth freelander my first was a CT freelander then the two racing ones this is my work hack.

The bigest problem with them is they suffer from is misdiagnosus sending owners chasing there tailes sorting out problems I replaced VC units and tyres and all sort because I had been told the wheel bearings wear fine when all along they had simply warn out but because they never have play untill thay fall off how ever they will howle way before that.

If you have ever owned a Disoc Rangy or defender you will find a freelander faster, chaper and much more relyable and ok for light offroading but carp at a play day.

Remember in 2004 the production class 1.8 freelander was 11th over all in the british championships (the higest place Bowler wild cat was 16th) to me that kind of relyability speaks for its self.

(sorry for some reason I can't spell check this)

  4. Well I wasn't thinking of letting you loose while the public were driving round huh.gif But Matt and I were talking the other day of working a time in to the day to let you loose biggrin.gif of course if you want to back out now I wont bother tongue.gif

    Brookers

could do but I have a gearbox fault which I don't have time to fix due to work commitments while I still have workhuh.gif

  5. Err I think you guys might want to see this course before prommises of bacon rolls are made ph34r.gif On the other hand I will be on standby with a winch rope tongue.gif

The course at the B&W was built to be challenging, if it's wet it will be very challenging. That said if someone knows what thay are doing a disco on AT's can get round but the driver needs to choose their route with care otherwise they will end up with wheels dangling in the air laugh.gif It was built to be fun with experienced drivers in mind and there are many parts where you can pick your route depnding on your and your vehicles ability.

At last years B&W show we had a couple of guys from the Cammel club giving passenger rides for us for 4 days and they were still out playing on it after the show had finished. It's been designed to be a challenge to an experienced driver. I know it as well as anyone and it still makes me grip the seat with my a**e in a few places smile.gif We have bridges, rock crawls, sleeper steps, log mounds to climb, lots of side slopes including a 180 wall of death, lots of axle twisters, steep drops through the woods, the Xtreme ballencing see saw, more steep drops, and if we have time a tunnel ph34r.gif I will post up some more pics when I find them.

    Brookers

No I think you just under estimate what comp drivers are like tongue.gif

Also I would expect comp safari car would not be allowed to drive at speed anywere on a show track it would worrie the marshalls just a tad...laugh.gif

  6. Mine's always done that to a certain extent, there is plenty of brake effort there but if you take your foot off the brake and press it again it is more powerful and higher up the travel. Been like that since new as far as I remember, now seven years. Can you lock the wheels (enough to bring ABS in) on dry tarmac with the first press? You should be able to, if you can't then I would worry as you should be able to.

Mines the same also I have spoken to several D2 owners which all of them do it so does the mother inlaws 20k mile D2.

On the upgrade front I have EBC pads all round and drilled and groved vented disc's all round as well and have done for about the last 80k I only rally nictice the major improvemnt when I tow fully loaded towing the racer etc...

  7. There is a Bearmach shop in Maidstone but that will do next day delivery anyway.

I raced the two freelander with them backing me and everything was posted down to me and I never struggled with anything and if thay didn't make a part themselves it was Gen Part they would supply me anyway.

Problem is cost verses quality you can buy a viscos fan for £40 Britpart or them same part from another brand for £80 but in this climate which would you go for even knowing its could fall off at anytime.

  8. will what are the rules on th camp site as regards to us bringing lorries to site. if no lorries does the mean no camping ? if we can get this cofifmed we will bring a group of 6 ish

    Paul

Yes the camp site can take 7.5t lorries but the campsite owner has asked they be left in a tidy manner.

    I hope this helps

    Julian

  9. I can see the time coming where I ask myself each morning "Which Ibex shall I take to work today?" laugh.gif

go on dave you know you want another one.....

you were talking about having a LS engined toy

  10. I can second what's been said above, I've had my 1999 D2 2 1/2 years and 40,000 miles. The only non-service items I've had go wrong are a water pump failure (which limped on to the next service anyway) and an ACE pump which I 'accidently' removed from the underside on a tree  , oh and some of the speakers have blown.

Mine's a 5 seat GS, which is the highest trimmed model without the air suspension - it's got ACE, HDC and TC, alloys, climate control and the Harmon Kardon stereo still, but no leather, cruise control and manual sunroofs

Go for a ES worth every penny as there not much more than a GS

In my 2000 Td5 D2 I have done 180,000 miles in mine I was going to scrap it but found a cheap gearbox and have changed our plans and I'm putting it back on the road

    In all that milage

    Tyres

    Intercooler failed/ split

    sectrion of loom

    Wheel bearings x2

Air bag spring(turned out to be a loose connector)

    Random water and turbo hoses.

but serviced on the botton every time and never cost more than £400 to do

It's cost me nothing to maintain over the time I was using it for work (4yrs) and in my eyes it's paid for its self three times now.

Its never been cained or driven hard  well only when I'm not driving it anyway

  11. Nice one Jules. I hear that a fair few SROC members might be joining us too as their event on the same day has been cancelled. Could be quite a busy one for us Marshal folk - especially with all those trees that jump out in front of you!

Its been years since I hit that Oak tree while we are on the subject has Pete finished rebuilding his after the parking 15' up a tree incident

  12. I wouldn't buy an expensive one - I'd buy another 1.8 any day as they go for peanuts and contrary to popular belief, the world doesn't end if a head gasket needs doing.

I'm with John I have a 99 2.0lt D and would buy another tomorrow if the red one died.

it leaks oil from the IRD and thats one of those things other wise good as gold
