you could move the rad to were it is not affected by water but it solely rely on the elec fan's
by the way I'm not a fan of electric fans and my racer has them and can't run viscous also the cowling would be masive.

Push your insurance for like for like replacement as they will just fob you off with a slashed 90 valve.

Most people on here had Rangies and Disco's so Freelanders are the small nippy economic car to us.
in the current climate your will have lots of choice with a £4k budget.
I would say Td4 over the 1.8 yes they do suffer from the head gasket going but there much cheaper because of it and there a very good runabout still. the Td4's are good for about 35-40mpg were as the 1.8's more like 25-30mpg.
The servicing for any freelander is about £200 up depending on who you use but its a 4x4 so don't use a normal car garage as they don't really know what they need at 12k intervals.
Td4 auto's ES is a popular option normally and tow very well.

Yes its very easy. just use a ball joint splitter and the two bolts on the sub-frame .

Thinking about it the event above is the first one I ever drove in but I pited for the banyards once or twice when I was first driving and Paul and keith won the British beating the Simmonites in their old car...I was seventeen and my mate was a trainee plant fitter we would turn up in his site service van and help out best we could.

Night (Off Road) road rally around Cornwall and Devon lanes in a 2.5d 90 of my brothers I was driving he was navigating.
We finished 8th but if we hadn't dropped the last check point because we thought we were so far behind we would have been 3rd brains over brawn all the big V8's we were completing against kept getting lost were as Ali's navigation was spot on..
That was the event where at about 4am I slammed into a stone wall on knocked my brother out as he was reading the map at the time

Gavin of SCOR talked us into competing so he is responsible for starting me off competing and I’ve loved every minuet since. Even if I have had a few hiccups on the way.. Ironically it was Gavin that got the racer started while I was at drivers briefing after she refused to start at scrutineering on Sunday

Some chap told Jim it had been reduced to eight laps so he was gutted when he found out that was not the case. I had a small bush fail on the rear hockey stick on lap seven and the twenty minuets it would take to change it, would mean I couldn't finish so we knocked it on the head as we'd had a very good day up until then and saw no point in struggling
That was a nasty place to sheer your steering box how many times did he roll down the hill, Steve didn't say.
Its all reparable but the two snapped rear fox shocks gives him a reason to upgrade.

Mud RWYB - This won't be a full quarter mile but it will be a flat straight muddy drag strip set up near the off road course. £10 for 3 runs
I have the feeling my truck will just sit and spin its 205 diamonds and once a 36" clad challenge truck has board everyone to death over the distance nothing much else will be able to drive along it .
I enjoyed Donnington but I did meet some people that moaned about how busy it was.

My wife's 4.6 hse I just don't want to know what it dose to the gallon on her weekly trip to London or Wales. The Disco is the same although its a TD5 I just don't want to know as it only depresses me.
The funny thing is I borrowed my mums Laguna to drive the three hours to Donnington for fear of the cost of fuel but all the wife could say after the first 45 mins was I'd rather we paid the extra £40 in fuel and went in the rangy then on the way home just before we got home in the winchester traffic after induering six ours of complants about how littls she could see and how uncomftable the car was she stated "You can forget getting a estate car you just drive too fast we'll just have to stick with the Disco and RR" I was gutted

It was my Mum she got my dad into them when she had her's in the 70's as a radiographa and for towing the boat my Dad had.
Then my dad got a 110 V8 in about 85 which is the first one I remember. So it his fault for me and my brother

I was insured with a company and had full listing of my 4.2 V8 challenge 90 and it about £190 ish a year and I said to the guy that I was impressed at how cheap it was and his response bear in mind the guy knew his stuff and was tiring to sell me race insurance for the two race cars I had, that proper enthusiast rarely clamed at all. when I wrote the challenge truck off three weeks later and phone up the same chap and swapped the insurance on to the 1.8 racer he asked whet happened to the 90 and when I told him I had flipped it end over and killed the chassis and front end, all he said was "I told you that you wouldn't clam that’s why its so cheap".

The petrol is a very rev happy engine and will think nothing of being driven flat out for hours on end but it has very little toque but the diesel is the complete opposite.
When my wife started racing my silver 1.8 in the British championships trophy class she would hold it in gear and not change up on long muddy hill climbs and I could here the rev limiter from the pits (It used to drive me nuts) but the car never missed a beat.(the belt tentioners never liked it much)
I’m not convinced that you will get much of a result without a compromise in another area of the gearing.

What's the problem the gearing is it too low or too high.

I found changing the window regulator changing was easy but I take things apart and try to put them back together again all the time.
It took me about 25mins to change one out and new one back in.
a 2 dr and 4 dr window regulator are the same but they are still handed left to right.

And they only drive the lighter rigs on 28" of ice at 25kph only when its 38"+ do they drive at normal speeds

In my old freelander which had a great roof rack
I drove from Eastleigh Travis Perkins to Porton Down Salisbury with over 250m of 4"x2" over 7.4m lenths.
I drove past a motorbike speed trap and the police man just looked away.
a freelander is under 4.8m
