  1. Any detergent, washing up liquid. apply neat and brush it in........leave it soak a while (don't let anyone walk throught it )......then hose or jet wash off......If you don't shift it all in one go....have another go next week....you'll win in the end. In future use a drip try for the sump. Good Luck, Nigel
  2. yes I've heard of it, but it is not "mentioned" a lot........either it is ilegal or uneconomical! I can think of only two reason for it...... A. Titration, to convert the veg to a biodiesel. or B. to "cut" the veg, change its viscosity. there are more than likely, better/cheaper methods of both. maybe someone knows more? Nigel
  3. I have found this folloing forum an excellent site for UVO/SVO/Bio information........ Please take the time to do some indepth research before jumping in feet deep, I've been doin so for about a year and only now am I confident enough to use fuel substitutes, there are many options. goat industries Hope that's helpfull. Nigel.
  4. The term producer in the above is somewhat misleading, in so much that........ If you purchase veg oil from the supermarket (not intended for us as a fuel) and then use it for fuel.......you become a producer! An anouncement is due "in the summer" and the above is only a possible outcome, all be it a very possible outcome If anyone intends using SVO or indead any fuel substitute please ensure you inform HMC&R before you do, and also check out some of the very good forums for advice as it isn't always a bung it in the tank and go job. Nigel
  5. HSE regulations do not pertain to private usage see HSE by preference petrol would be best carried OUTSIDE of a vehicle....... And lifting 20 ltr container onto a roof rack is inherently hazardous! Nigel.
  6. So if I put 50ltrs of Diesel in the car, 10ltrs in the boat and 20ltrs in the off road toy...... I then claim 30ltrs worth of tax back......oh hang on, how's HMCE going to know how much I used where? I could If I was unscrupulous cliam back for say........80ltrs! Nah, no one woud do that would they Nigel
  7. You could always use a snatch block to double line winch, this would effectivelly half the line speed and reduce the load on the engine. Nigel.
  8. Having read the above, I now find myself scratching my head in contemplation! Dislocation cones, enable the spring to relocate after dislocating instead of sitting half on the mounting or even worse against the tyre (both of which I have encountered) I would describe that as serving a function not a fashion! Fulcrum.....er... Surely the pressure exerted on the wheel by the load on the spring is irrelevent.....when compairing dislocated spring to extra lenght or fixed spring......ergo... when a standard spring is at the point of dislocation, then a fixed spring will be at the same point, but at the tyre, an extended spring will be at just short of this point but the loading from the vehical above will still be the same for all three! dislocated or extended only offer a limited traction by vertue of the unsprung wieght, and a fixed spring will offer no traction. Does that make sense? Or m I over simplifying things? p.s. A friend of mine used some spare shock turrets mounted inside the spring as dislocation cones, worked fine! Nigel.
  9. Well yes I agree that it does sound a bit childish........ But given that every forum was "targeted" with postings doing nothing other than advertising Gresh's site and advocating other user to leave LRO and join them then one can consede that as not being appropriate and why action was taken. Remebering that prior to this banners and links where allowed as they are in most other forums. I have also noted that this has now been relaxed, and an element of normallity returned. By all means slag them off when they deserve it, but on this point I think it is the offenders who causes the ban who are at fault. Nigel.
  10. I think regardless of what make of tyre you use, inended use is the defining factor. The better a tyre is off road the less you should expect of it on road. I have some extremely aggressive off road tyres on my S3 SWB but i don't expect them or the S3 to perform on road. I have road tyres on my disco but would not expect them to perform very well off road. It's a matter of compromise, if you are only going to engage in some gentle green laning then consider AT's rather than MT's as they will give better onroad performance. Nigel.
  11. Hi Graham, Long time no see.... Try this site, I believe he has recently started making light bars for the disco and you might find his prices fairly reasonable.... http://www.wizardbilt.com/ Hope thats helpful, Nigel.
  12. The security nuts in the link above will do the job if you wish to fit permanently, but make sure when fitting that they run home on the thread easily before applying any pressure. I've known plenty of these snap the heads off before they have tightened up. demountable is a good idea and as stated could then be used front or rear. Hydraulic winches.......well you can get hydraulic pipe quick connectors too, so again could be demountable. howevery they may be a little on the heavy side to be handled easily from front to back on a muddy challange event! Nigel.
  13. Being an LRO form refugee...........I have to agree with the majority of the postings above. They have messed about with the forums, disregarded the users wishes and needs.....etc,etc. The only addition to what has been posted above, is concerning the banning of links/advertising. This really came about because a couple of the members who migrated to Gresh's site decided to add a link/banner to their sig and then spam the LROforum. I think most users of any forum would find this unacceptable, and it was annoying to other users, Gresh did not condone this action and asked that it should be stopped. However, it promted a typical kneejerk reaction from admin who promtly ran around deleting ALL external links they could find.....including links to voluneer groups, for which an apollogy was forth coming. I had used the LROforum for many years and found the Technical boards most useful and tried to help others in return. I still pop in and endevour to help those in need, as there are not many left there to help others now. I think that the external links ban will gradually be relaxed as long as posters are reasonable and it benefits all. I now regularly use Gresh's forum an having recently found this one like the high degree of technical sbject matter......I think you may have to get used to having me around, As for LRO I can never see them recovreing wht they have lost. Nigel.
  14. You could try a bit of talc in the gloves before you put them on.........It makes them easier to get on too. Barrier cream is a help and aids cleaning if Like me, don't usualy ear glove cause a just can't manage with them......... I was gven a tip many years ago....... before getting your hands oily, sratch a bar of soap. The resultand wedge of soap under your nails keeps the grease and oil out and cleans out itself easily when washing....I tried it and it worked a treat, only problem was I couldn't stand the soap under my nails Nigel.
  15. I have an old caravan chassis (auto reverse) which I got to convert into camping / expedition trailer. It has a solid axle on leaf springs with cable brakes. I intend narrowing the chassis and changing the hubs for S3's (hopefully use the original activators in place of the hydraulics) The most difficult part as far as I can see will be..........getting it out of the garage from under all my spares to get the job started Nigel.
