Top tip! Gonna wire wheel and epoxy paint the diff cover and once painted I'll do as you suggest Lewis.Ross, to PH rod attaches just to the left(looking at the axle from the front of the vehicle) of the diff so the bulge is axle end of the rod.
I used to use a firm in Ipswich where I dropped bits with instruction, picked up at the end of the day ready to fit an just dropped a cheque in the letter box, never really had time to get there in opening hours, the one time I did, it was awesome just watching cranks being ground, heads being skimmed, valves being cut, block boring and top hatting, not helpful to you but I miss an olde worlde machine shop
It's ok, was beginning to think my supposed bargains were not so great after all, the flexy on the snorkel being perforated and the top bracket missing off the rear.Oh well, goin to the yard early to knock up a second bracket before work.
Been out and loosely held it up against the diff, don't look like it fouls the PH rod but clearance would be tight either RHD or LHD.
Coincidentally, anyone know if pan hard rod mounting differs between LH & RH drive vehicles?
Ralph, what did you just do
Click linky, start browsing the diff guards and suddenly get nauseous at the mention that these things are "handed" after tea I'm off to check!
21quid same day return, was just round the corner from the terminal today as we have a housing development by Fratton so I popped in.
I'm going in two weeks for a reconnaissance tour, as Dutch friends are coming in the summer and thought I'd do something special.
Retro fitting a 300Tdi into an aging TD or N/A is very common, pretty much all genuine parts can be used in the conversion, just a case of seeing if it's still got the LT77 or R380 gearbox.
If done properly it's a good vehicle and only 6yrs ahead of first 300Tdi Defender.
You sure it's 88 not 98?
1998 would be original 300Tdi
If it is a 1988 an engine upgrade isn't a problem as a 300Tdi isn't much more than a reworked 19J
I'm no metal worker but he is so wrong with "patch over and don't worry" theory, you just end up replacing the whole thing next time as the rot accelerating where it gets damp behind the patch just affects a far greater area next time.Best advice here, do it once, do it right!
Or maybe pay someone else?
Very odd as if it were diff bushings they would pronounce their demise in every available opportunity, perhaps drive shaft?
Can you get under it and have a wiggle with a pry bar?.
The ones I have seen do, forgot about that over the rail bit on coilers
Here you go, these ones http://marksgarage.co.uk/images/STC8355-OUTRIGGER-N-S.jpg?osCsid=n6bj63rt9jvaekufipi0be2r84
Why not replace the whole outrigger?
Easier to lop the old one off, new ones come on a plate and four easy peasy welds to stick it on, you can pop the floor plate out and run the top in properly.
Which Discovery had a temp sensor on the transferbox?
And why?
I picked up a S/H transferbox last week and it curiously has a temp sensor on the side, it has two terminals on it and wondered if maybe it was temp & level sensor? It's a 1.2 box and vendor says Disco 1.
Any help?
