  1. I am not so sure about the blocking London thing, I (in my personal experience) have always found that sort of thing a little counter productive, it's like suddenly we are not just fighting to save our motors but to do we are happy to pi55 everyone else off, I know it makes a point but sometimes that point could well be better made using the boy racers who have affluence and influence over more folk living in the big cities and towns where they might be blissfully aware of this until suddenly it comes into force and the fluffy dice have to come off the rear view mirror and the whopping jag v12 has to be pried out from what was a 1ltr fiesta. Please tell them about it tonight at the MacDonalds drive thru and let them look into it, but also think twice about blocking London, might do more harm than good.
  2. Might be a little off topic but could you quote Eric Blair for me as I fear I may have missed that one, might help out a few others who are none the wiser too LOL. I fail to see how the proposals can work really, I have been in contact with a fellow Disco owner in Holland and there its sort of the same as in the UK, do as you like as long as it passes the safety inspections you are fine. They too have a well developed industry for aftermarket modifications and alterations to vehicles, and the wave of action is about to begin in Holland, They are talking of doing much more than the letter writing and emailing we are, they are thinking more direct and obstructive actions to actually make the point that the proposals if they were to go ahead will kill an industry and put hundreds out of work and could potentially cost the governments millions in revenue each year due to folks not being able to do what they want with their money and so on and so on, you know the story as well as I do.
  3. I think it could have loosely been based on the Delorian??? Austin Rover steering wheel and looks like metro dash pod and what can I say the extra performance given by that K&N must be breath taking hahahahahahaha
  4. I liked the little orange buggy with the "only milk comes in 2 litres" decal. £2400 not so bad a price, seen a lot more asked for a lot worse too!!! Cant find the worst picture of an Isuzu trooper at the mo, maybe on my skydrive thingme bob, but owner wanted 2000 euro!!!!
  5. Sorry to bring this bit up a little late in the thread but are you telling me that any and all machinery if used solely for equine industry would be subject to running white diesel??? I was running an Isuzu Trooper in the UK a couple of years ago, I took it home with me after getting it when working in the deep south of Ireland and was on Irish plates, got pulled in with a load of other vans and trucks on the A5 between Shrewsbury and Wrexham, Both VOSA chappie and HMRC guy looked at one another and ushered me out of the lay-by and on my way, talking to good friend who is local copper in that area and he remarked might as well run cherry if I wanted to as the foreign reg private 4X4 is not worth the hassle in dipping or looking into as if it does have a problem then it's a lot of paper, and by the time the fines etc,. are processed you are back out of the country so no point. Guess which pump she was fuelled at from then on hehe.
  6. Nick, I want to applaud you for your sterling work and commitment. I hope it pays off and that it is going to be rejected as unnecessary meddling by the PM and his staff. The DfT are useless at the best of times and are another one of those departments that really is only interested in its own agendas. If it affected them infringing on their vehicles and hobbies, or if it were someone like simonr who was a close friend and was about to go bust overnight due to this rubbish then maybe they would be the first to stand against it. I am wrong in a way, I have posted my own views on how we are all being shafted by the government either openly or by the backdoor, I have added my name to the petitions ina bid to try and help stop what, if it is brought in will cripple a dying/dead economy and damage a lot of peoples lives, not just the drivers of carefully modified cars but the industries that supply them with the parts to do it, and so far we have had a fair system in which it allowed and even helped us to be safe about our modifications and help to make us more aware of the safety critical mods that may be overlooked for the sake of appearance or it being inadequate after other changes had been made. Carry on and lets see what comes from our fearless leaders.
  7. My better question is............ What of the cooling system? is there enough cooling capacity from the standard radiator on a 2.25 diesel to satisfy the extra heat from a turbo charged Tdi engine? Or do I need to find some way of additional cooling? I have been looking at the various plumbing arrangements people have used for fitting the intercooler in the front panel, it never looks too good!!!! Not knocking anyone in particular but I have looked a couple of other ways and maybe dare I say it but a set up similar to that of an Isuzu trooper actually seems to look like a neater install, I am not near the car now and will try to arrange pictures when I see it next, but it required(from what I could see) a mount made up for it to sit above the engine, rubber hoses from turbo to cooler and back to manifold, and a ram air scoop fitted to the bonnet, with some rubberized foam to seal gap from cooler to bonnet. Anybody toyed with this also? the guy said there were a couple of clearance issues to begin but it worked better this way than in the front panel.
  8. roll on rebuild, gotta get it home yet!!!

  9. I am not going to bother with the dizzy when the 3.9 goes into the next vehicle, while the engine is out its having a megajolt fitted, saw a chevvy small block running under water with MJ and am pretty much sold on it. plus points for me too being the mapping for LPG and petrol. Too many hours been spent under bonnet with this that and the other to keep moisture at bay and contactors clean for efficient running for a jaunt along some lanes or a little fording for the craick, right enough it is the steam vapour that does it after fording even if its only axle deep with a relatively warm axle case the steam comes up around the dizzy and has often caused slight issues the following morning when starting cold. Tried vaseline, the 9 finger chicken head thing which more resembled some random sex toy than an automotive part but hey it didn't work so going a little more radical this time
  10. To be different. Maybe he wants to do weddings, funerals and bahmitzvas? Although anyone remembering that program London Chop Shop with Burney and Leapoo(sorry to anyone who can spell his name LOL), Looks like they had a go at it with the rear valance/bumper.
  11. Not quite WW2 was a few years before the advent of my birth but I like yr thinking. I have just witnessed too many incidents of improper and unmanageable legislation, and not to mention the hundreds of petitions drawn up by residents of areas that need bypassing or greatly improved road improvements ie, the A14 in East Anglia, it should have been a motorway 15-20 years ago with the traffic volumes but it was only 6yrs ago they began a slight restructure to straighten out the haughley bends, nice job saw it a lot on my commute but it did not really solve the traffic movement to one of the largest container ports in Europe did it? The A140 Ipswich to Norwich trunk road? Another joke, single carriageway all bar 9miles of its 70 mile length and thats a major trunk with countless roundabouts slapped in the middle of it. Again petition after petition by hauliers and general public yielded what exactly? Nothing. Should I take some uppers to remove my depression now?
  12. ????????? OMG How things have changed!!!!! I used to love Lindacre Landrover in Ipswich, tech guys in parts were amazing, knew everything from part No's to YOM's and loads of tricks to use on axles, brakes and the like. Wanna have a hart attack, L/R quoted 1500 euro for a recon MAF for my 98 vintage 3.9 Disco and really won't tell you how ridiculous the price for the cam and followers were, well ok 1900 euro(euro because I am in Belgium). I think it can only get worse!!!
  13. Zoltan, I have no spirit of Dunkirk, I am just being completely realistic in knowing that in the south of Ireland they already have the completely automated testing stations where the car travels along the rails and has all the procedures as per the DOE or NCT test including the shock absoorber test whereby the car is shaken violently around on its suspension and if it proves defective then fail and take it back within 14 days fixed and thats paddy land!!!! I lost the spirit and belief in government doing right by its people a long time ago, remember married tax allowances? Remember the days when the most you could borrow on a mortgage was 25% of your net earnings not a mortgage based on two incomes his and hers? Remember when it was the government who set interest rates not banks? Shall I continue ok how about the privatisation of every single service provided within Britain and also to include policing soon, and to completely privatize health care? Why fight the inevitable? Move to Russia, we can still carry on modding and building, maintaining our own cars and they will be a whole lot safer than the rest. Show me more instances than I have you where the government has actually done more good than harm please sir.
  14. you know, green lanes were what we called dry weather and sunny day drives, conditions under wheel pendant of course, but I am sad to say that some drivers have brought this upon themselves, laning in the wet when conditions that could cause damage were prevalent and far from ideal. I know that its not the majority and only the minority that have and are ruining it for the rest but thats the way it is, A lot of drivers who consider themselves green laners are more at home driving a pay and play course and should in reality stick to those and stay off the green lanes when its a wet autumn or spring and winter driving unless it's frozen should be very limited to dry and less damaging conditions not just driven with the plough on regardless. I lived in Suffolk where lanes are not common at all these days and yet still the mugs were there with aggressive mud terrain tyres and lifted cars with winches and snorkels abound, tearing up the lanes as they went, I spoke to a few of them and was merely greeted with " what the f***'s it got to do with you?" I loved what few lanes were there to be driven and managed to get myself a pass with the Forestry Commission and was allowed to drive a lot of the forestry tracks and trails around Rendlesham, Tangham and Eyke, it was my privilege and I was proud to be able to drive and have only one vehicle as company if i wished as long as I stayed within the rules laid out by the forest ranger, and for this privilege I was described as "a brown nosing c***" just because I was willing to obey the rules and to drive in a respectful manner on the trails I was allowed. I am actually thinking more along the lines of shut all of the lanes to the general public, walkers and ramblers too, make them privatized and then make folks pay a subscription to drive, ride or walk them, a non duplicate type key can be issued to subscription payers and then the lanes can be policed and maintained to a sufficient standard or shut completely to everyone not just motorized vehicles, lanes with access from a point where there can be electric barriers can also be closed off this way too and there are numerous systems in place that can stop smart thinkers who might try and allow a few more of their mates in on the fun too. I like the idea of policing them the most, not just from motorized vehicles but more so for the walkers and ramblers who actually think themselves above the laws of the right to roam. Anyone else got any better ideas?
  15. I am new on here but not new to Land Rovers and have done more engine/gearbox swaps and modding in general to all of my vehicles from RRCs to series 3s. Maybe Cameron/Clegg could go one better, allow and implement changes, then grant official asylum for all those vehicles and manufacturers it would affect, therefore keeping everyone happy? I write in jest, because as far as I am concerned, its almost in place now, this writing of letters and appealing is wonderful but futile, I am not saying stop, but I know how it works, they tell us of the proposals and then allow us to vent our steam telling us to voice our objections to calm us down and make us think we will be fighting our corner and that we can make a difference but the long and the short of it is that the proposal is just the warning for what is coming, I don't vote, I don't care anymore, they do what gets them the best payday end of, look at Tony Blair, ruined the economy and took the great away from Britain and then swanned off into the sunset with a bigger fuller bank account. I drive my car as standard as possible these days as its easier for parts in what ever continent I happen to be in. Get used to the proposals, thats what they ARE going to implement in the coming years, not overnight but within 5yrs to allow for change and investments and to give owners time to put their car back to stock. If they don't do it this time it really is only a matter of time before it rears its ugly head again.
