  1. Cool. Thanks Bowie. Hope this cv joint does the trick. The steering damper is going to get clouted everytime i take it off road cos it hangs down from behind the axle slightly. Is there a solution to this or shall i just remove it before offroading ?
  2. Am I ok to run without a steering damper for a bit ?
  3. Sorry Ross. Drivers side is in bits now so cant check. Its always the week before a scout camp !! . Going to order another cv joint but a diffrent make this time. I need it back on the road by sat. March it was changed so its lasted 2 months and I hardly use the car. Did do abit of offroading at ty rhiw farm on sunday but nothing extreme.
  4. With both wheels off the ground but with the prop still connected I can turn the drivers wheel and the passenger wheel turns in the opposite direction. I thought this was correct as long as the centre diff wasnt locked.
  5. Slight exageration. The cv was replaced in January.
  6. No sign of any wear on the drive shaft and the teeth look fine with no sign of any slippage. Gotta be the cv joint again then ?
  7. The lack of turning circle was the steering damper. The outer casing was fouling the piston. Can you drive the disco with the damper removed till i can get a new one ? All bearings seem fine with no play. About to remove drive shaft to see if there are any obvious issues with that. Really need the car for the weekend so here's hoping I can find out what it is . The fact it was fine in the straight ahead can rule out the diff surely ?
  8. Thanks for the reply Ian. There are no tyre issues. The arches have been cut out. Its as if there is something jamming the cv joint. Yes it was a britpart joint but 4 weeks ????
  9. I need help guy's .I replaced the offside swivel ball about 4 weeks ago due to it being pitted and leaking. I ended up changing everything, hub, cv joint, wheel bearings etc etc as on reassembly there was a loud clicking noise as if the drive shaft was slipping teeth. Anyway It's lasted about four weeks and now its doing it again ???? This time its mainly if you try driving on full lock its as if the front wheel is trying to lock up then banging free. You can see the wheel shudder as it releases. Also I dont seem to have full lock. I've damaged the steering damper and its leaking oil so I'm going to remove that today and strip the driveshaft assembly out. Any idea's ??
  10. I'd start with the relay. Just cos its clicking doesnt mean its making a good contact. Swap it with a good un and see what happens. You havnt got spots spliced in somewhere have you shorting out the main beam ??? just a thought.
  11. Got a nice 4.6 gas converted you can have for £1295 .
  12. Old fashioned thing called customer service.
  13. Out for a play 27th. If she gets submerged again your on !
  14. This is the procedure I used to reseal a leaking headlight that was continually blowing bulbs due to water ingress. If like me your strapped for cash this could save you a few pounds if your stuck. If it does save you money please donate to the forum . 1) Remove headlight by pulling out of the ball and socket fittings on the back of the headlight. x2 grill side. x1 lower outer edge. 2) Disconnect the plugs from the main and sidelight bulbs and remove the bulbs 3) Remove the rubber outer seal. ( mine was full off all sorts of crud ) 4) Using something plastic remove the glass from the reflector. I used an old credit card. 5) Rinse and clean all the parts of the fitting. DO NOT RUB THE REFLECTOR ! The silver finish is very thin so be carefull. 6) Allow all the parts to dry. Any moisture will stop the silicone from bonding. 7) Run a bead of silicone around the edge of the seal. I used black for dramatic effect for this post. ( And it was all I had in the garage at the time ). 8) Firmly press in the glass ensuring a good coverage. Any excess squeezed out can be smeared around the outer edge to help with sealing. Replace outer rubber seal and bulbs. 9) Reconnect wiring before pushing home fitting onto the 3 Balls. 10) Test Reach around and give yourself a large pat on the back for postponing having to spend £50 on a new headlight . Notice how nice and clean and bright the repaired headlight is compared to the one that wasnt leaking ! Something else I noticed was the rubber o-ring on the sidelight holder had squashed flat. I removed the o-ring and placed a very small bead of sealant where the o-ring sits. I then turned the o-ring over to give me a nice round side and replaced onto the sealant. This gave a good seal when refitting. HTH>
  15. No chip, just broken glass on inside from bulb blowing. Glass removed and resealed. See how to post.
  16. Thanks guys. Alot of condensation and a small stone chip in the glass. Ta mucho.
  17. Thanks Tanuki I'll have a look. It has been really wet here lately.
  18. Hi guy's and gals. I've gone through 2 headlight bulbs in two weeks ?? Its always the same headlight, offside, and the bulb is actually exploding. As in the glass of the bulb is actually blowing apart. I've not had problems before. I have got a switch wire going from this headlight to the relay for the roof bar lights but the current drain thro this should be minimal. I'll try and measure the draw latter when it stops raining. Any one else had this ?
  19. Hi. I ended up replacing the lot after buying just the track rod ends and being unable to remove them. Thus I had twice the expense . Intresting to see the comments on the copper grease tho. I wasnt sure so didnt grease in case this was a no-no cos they are steering parts. Wasnt sure how much to retigten the clamps either as I was afraid of distorting the bar and allowing movement ?? As for refitting. I did the same and lined them up side by side but it was still out. I was scrubbing the outside of the tyres and the steering wheel was out of line. Adjusted by eye in the end with a long piece of wood from the rears. Just gotta go get aligned properly now. Steering is straight and tyres not rubbing so it cant be far out. At least they've got nice new parts to adjust !!!!
  20. Tbh. I think if landrover had thought they were a good idea they would have fitted them in the first place. They have been know to get it wrong mind
  21. Me to. Britpart balls and no probs so far .
  22. Welcome I thought they were all rusty ??? As in oem
  23. While you have access to this part of bodywork I would also suggest siliconing the holes that I have marked on this pic. They are threaded so have a use but who knows ?????
