  1. Hey guys i was just wondering if a 3.9 ecu will work on a 3.5?? if so would i be looking at any power increases? would is bring the 3.5 on lpg closer to standard? and i would like to know where i could get an ecu extension loom?
  2. check the bottom plug on the alarm box... that was the problem on mine...
  3. its not the best of conditions no... inner wing rotten... so no point in using the ties... and i was just tryin it out... its not goin offroadin again till welded up...unless you class towing caravans off a muddy field as offroading...
  4. this was used in the 70-80s i think on a defender... no comprimise suspension from the aussies http://www.kinetic.au.com/x.html i want to make it for my rangiebob
  5. same prob on mine... bottom plug on back of alarm on drivers wing was loose...try that thanks Nick
  6. same prob with mine... turned out that the bottom plug on the alarm wiggled loose so finally after many months ive got a working range rover it shook loose afta a big drop when offroadin...(it turned the battery over) now im back to driving again
  7. one of the land rover mags did an article a while back a 2nd hand chassis to the same spec as original is classed as the same chassis therefore you still got those 5 points but the suspension mounts are in a grey area but surely if you are changing the suspension the mounts will be different and the rest of the chassis unaltered...mind you everything on the points system requires chassis mount changes unless to the original dimensions...so surely the mounts are classed with the item be it suspension or whatever
  8. frankly it depends on how you drive...but 35-40mpg sounds a good enough reason for a prima for me... i dont think i could afford to fuel a 200tdi let alone repair any damage to engine
  9. perkins prima actually mate... where can i get remote oil filter kit from?
  10. yea there are the laws of physics to play with.... just considering if it would make the losses lower... the idea was propane injection and bigger injectors on a standard engine just to give it a little bit more... and then switch the manifolds to the turbo version at a later date...
  11. yes i understand fully the principles of super and turbo charging and i also understand that those electric supercharger are a load of ****but...the basic principles of chargers is to increase the intake air pressure...thus increasing the amount of air taken into the cylinders thus increasing the amount of fuel u can burn... so using an electric compressor run off a high ampage alternator/dynamo say, then you would have an effectively loss free supercharging system... turbos restrict the engine in certain rpm bands and superchargers inflict mechanical losses...it would affectively be a "hybrid" supercharger... any thoughts?
  12. thanx guys i seen that site before very good info thanks mines a non-turbo (at the moment) i was just wondering about higher flow injectors thats all... propane injections on the list as well as turning the pump up but i still want to retain some economy... above 30mpg i was thinking along the lines of a crank driven compressor to pump air into the intake as this may be cheaper than s'charge...or a elec one hooked to alternator... any ideas?
  13. you can add lpg to the intake of diesels for more power and economy and to keep emissions lower as it makes the engine burn nearer 100% of the diesel instead of around 60-70% hence no smoke... like you said bargins can be had...i am getting a 2l perkins prima n/a with lt77 out of a van from a mate for £160 does anybody know how to upgrade injectors? and suitable ones for the perkins prima?
  14. oops missed that bit... i was only goin to use the landy to tow trailers across a muddy field and on the road and i am aware of the oil filter prob...any help on where i can get a remote oil filter kit from? is there a way to prevent the belt slipping?
  15. hey guys can ya lend me a hand on posting pics?
  16. well it was welded on...but i thought they wer RRC...i not sure either...ill try and have a dig through the arcives wen i get a chance
  17. perkins prima for a series...all the way... rover montegos are cheap lt77 out of a van would help sort out tha hookin up difficulties and u just need adaptor to the s2/3 tbox im currently sorting out my first car for this conversion but in using lt230 and rrc axles 35-40mpg 70mph less likely to damage a s2/3 box if they are use as similar power/torque curve and the power easilly upgradable to 200tdi standards im using the non-turbo from the van but the turbo montego version is recommended
  18. DVLA runs a points system you need 8 points to retain original age related plate and therefore tax exemptness heres the points: Chassis: 5 Engine: 1 Gearbox: 2 Axles: 2 Suspension: 2 Steering: 2 soo with an original style chassis, rangie engine box n axles, parabolics and series 1 steering your sorted but i reeli think that instead of savaging a perfectly good s1 you should get a spare chassis and swap chassis plates ova and build up your perfect trailer from there taking only the parts you need off the s1 then if you get tired of arsing about in the mud u can allways swap the body parts and steering over and youve got your classic S1 back! just my two pence
  19. Hey guys got some pics that might be helpful here if you want the best leaf sprung travel its got to be reverse shackle, SUA, 3/4 elliptical, revolver shackles and Z-gate set up with the Gon2Far shock mod all these pieces of kit are all used individually or paired but neva all together...another vapour project...but which landy to choose... any info on how to post pics and ill pop them straight up for you
  20. any help for a 2.5 defender n/a in a series 2a? will not idle even when hand throttle on half (or was if full?) any suggestions warmly needed as "Wild Thing" isnt reali wild when you stall it going for 2nd haha
  21. tractor power steering would work(dont start swearing lol) the power steering kit is practically what is used on a tractor...you could mount it down the right of the engine to stop muk gettin into the ram and so it looks practially original if thats an issue
  22. hey guys nice landies i betta get out into tha fields this wkend and unearth our lost landy collection and post em up ere haha
  23. hey guys good thread i was considering this conversion for my vapour project but now i got my hands on a perkins prima and lt77 out of a van so not soo much vapour now and well there are a few reasons why i reckon you should consider this conversion instead of 200tdi in a series 70mph cruise 35-40mpg similar power/torque curves to 2.25 petrol...easier on the box can be simply upgraded too similar power to the 200/300tdi relatively cheap conversion considering the new project landy is going to be my first car ive gone for the non turbo from the van which is handy coz apparantly its lt77 just bolts to the lr transbox (lt230 though i think) and i can allways swap bits from the turbo over in a few years and tune it up then any thoughts?
