  1. Was that with Ali wire and pure argon?
  2. Top work! I'm contemplating the same rib for my back of gearbox crossmember on my lightweight chassis. I bought a replacement crossmember, and, whilst fine, lacks the rib, being of four side construction. Getting the seam between the fake rib and the bottom side looking like it was pressed will be the challenge. I suspect a low power high wire speed run with the MIG, and selective use of the power file will suffice. Keep the photos coming. G.
  3. Can you fit a series front end to a defender? IS there a crossmember to mount the front panel to? I presume you are talking 109 on a 110 chassis?
  4. I presume if I suggest fitting a V8 and some super swampy knobbly tyres, then people will realise I'm joking? Glad to see a proper pioneer given the recognition it deserves.
  5. Tiger seal? Less malleable than dum dum, but sets permanently, and thus no smell, no melt.
  6. I have to say that the idea of making a Landrover rust deliberately is funny, odd, ironic and very weird. I spend too much time trying to stop mine from returning to iron ore! G.

Yuasa, as big as you can fit. G.
  8. If they make a range of top quality parts at decent prices, I'd be very interested. I hate the gamble at the moment, will it fit? Will it last? Or will the seals swell up? Will the bearings revert to cheese or will the hoses be missing the hole in the middle?
  9. Damar are good people, good kit at reasonable prices.
  10. I've ordered the forms last night, I'm going to fill them in and sent what I have. We'll see what happens!
  11. My lightweight was never registered with the DVLA, I believe it went straight to life as a trails truck after it left the army. So I've no disposal paperwork, nor can I get any, as DES in Bicester are unable to help - they spent some time looking, can't fault them. So, has anyone managed to register an ex-mod vehicle without the MOD paper work? I've a heritage certificate and "B" Card. Thanks, G.
  12. Ten years, compared to the life of a Landrover? A heart beat.
  13. I was thinking in comparison with 10mm rebar, which is very inflexible. G.
  14. Substantial stuff. Any reason why the angle section couldn't be made from aluminium? I suppose you'd still need steel for the rods, or would titanium be too soft? G.
  15. Oh, location, not too bothered, but not too far north of Manchester would be my limit. G.
  16. Sure, good idea. I doubt if I'll have the lightweight finished by then, but the LWB should be good to go.
  17. So, does that lie on the ground, with pins driven into the ground, through the holes? G.
  18. Michelin air stops. I can't find them, either.
  19. I've bleed the twin leading shoe system with an easy bleed, and with a vacuum system. Not impossible, just different.
  20. I'm amazed there isn't a cheap Chinese box shifter making half decent basic power tools like these, afterall they are very simple things. If I had more time/money/less landrover projects I'd really consider starting up a company to design these and get them made. Nah, Who am I kidding? If I had more time and money I'd buy more landrover projects.
  21. I am restoring a lightweight at the moment, and the plan is to put MS as the engine management system on the 2.5 petrol engine I have put aside. But, it now transpires that the Lightweight was a winterised FFR, which means 24v electrics. I can still go civvy spec, but the 24v thing does appeal, god know why. Apparently one can obtain voltage droppers, 13.8v, but would they be good enough to run a MS install? Clean enough power when it's needed? Sufficient to fire the sparky thing? Thanks, G.
  22. I haven't considered a bench belt sander. Are they any good? I've a makita floor sander, loud, heavy, and great for eating floors level. Would that sort of thing sharpen drill bits?
  23. The current one is 250 Watts. It's good. If you have a lot of pencils to sharpen.
