  1. Superb thread, thanks for taking the time to share your pain.
  2. This is interesting! I've been given a golf estate, 2l diesel dsg, circa 2010. Fine car, no doubt, but, meh. Poverty spec, so all the good basics, no clever toys by modern standards. I hadn't realised it is viable to play with it, I thought these things were sealed disposable appliances so that's really interesting! AWD and raised suspension appeal.
  3. Spare engine, and a spare head, or two? And a 2286 petrol.
  4. I wonder how difficult would it be to make one from two?
  5. And one(ish) for two. Layshaft input gear immaculate But the output cog is showing cavitation. What to do???
  6. Zero for one. Layshaft gear very worn. Good usable parts though.
  7. Well, my blast gun is rubbish. So I'm back to wire brush on a grinder. I'll use the blast box to key the prepared parts.
  8. I've seen steel on some flatbed load areas with built in slots for ratchet straps type mesh. I'll be looking at that for the next rebuild.
  9. Picked these up today. Complete pot luck, but reflected in the price.
  10. Count me in. I'm an almost complete beginner on winch use so should be fun.
  11. Interested, eventually I'll have the winch fitted to the 101, so if I can toddle along without a winch equipped vehicle?
  12. Once all the carp is cleared, maybe.
  13. That's what I normally do, but it's very weather dependent.
  14. Cable spooling is one of my pet peeves. And loose captive nuts.
  15. So, plastic box, sheet of spare glasshouse glass from when management confused metric and imperial. Nilfisk to the box, and gloves. And one of my blast guns. Sounds like a Sunday project.
  16. Skip diving is addictive. I used see then at work full of scrap. There's only so much you can bring before the bus driver says no.
  17. Got to agree, standard is easier, higher resale value, insurable.
  18. @JeffR Thanks. That's a great link. It's given me inspiration do make my own.
  19. I've three decent hobby compressors, I've enough air.
  20. I find I spend a lot of time cleaning small parts for painting. Rusty, or badly painted, or with a surface too smooth to key properly. I've a blast pot, and it's a pain, but when working, does a great job. It needs a temporary booth and a dry day to be worth doing. So not practical to do a couple of bits. Are the small desktop cabinets any good? There's one new on eBay for £120 or so.
  21. I'm going to ask. Could you @Stellaghost hold on to this for me? I'd like you to fit it when I pop over with the 101. Take a photo or so. Seems appropriate for you to do the honours. What do you think?
  22. I'm in awe. That's something that should be on a plinth in the Victoria and Albert museum. Thank you.
  23. Grease is useful as glue mid assembly.
