  1. I am now looking at getting am Disco TD5 and swapping Engine and Transmission all together as it has done 60.000 miles in the last two years and now has over 230.000 miles on the clock, so if i can find a lowish mileage Auto TD5 Disco and swap the lot and change the transfer box and get newer drive train.
  2. Hi Shakleton I looked into Ashcrofts and spoke to Dave Ashcroft about what would be required for my particular needs, it worked ot £5,000 plut £1000 VAT. I am now looking for an Auto TD5 Discovery to swap over. Regards R
  3. Thanks Chaps, I definately need an auto as it is my left knee which is the problem, thanks for the heads up on the 3.5 output, the one I have found someone scrapping a 3.9 auto Range Rover (best thing for it) due to accedent damage on rear) But looking at replies I would be better looking for a TD5 Auto ? Thanks R
  4. Thanks for the information, The Ashcroft worked out at £5,000 plus VAT.
  5. Hi there Has anyone changed out a TD5 Manual to a 3.5 Auto ? I am looking into swapping out a scrapped (due to bodywork) 3.5 lpg auto out of a Disco into my TD5 Manual Defender ? Regards Richard
  6. Hi all After doing my knee in and my Defender TD5 Manual gearbox starting to play up I started to look into converting it to Automatic, Dave Ashcroft has been very helpful after I found out it was going to be about £6,000 to do. So I have come across someone scrapping a 3.5 lpg auto Discovery. Has anyone out there done anything similar ? Thanks for any help Regards Richard
  7. Thanks Steve Just what I needed Regards Richard
  8. Thanks for that, it has answerd my question Regards Richard
  9. Hi All, Had a look and could not see anything asked before, but has anyone replaced a Cylinder Head on a TD5., Just wondered how long and how difficult ? Regards Richard
  10. My fault for no replies, I should have said the TD5 is going in my defender, does that make a difference ?
  11. Hi Chaps I have the offer of a 1999 Discovery cheap (Yes I know) it has done 190,000 miles My idea is to rebuild the TD5 Engine as mine has done 185,000 and is not very well and swap engines. I am running about 175Hp on the Defender so The question is, the Disco engine runs ok but high mileage, can I get away with just shells and a re bore or is there other stuff that can be done that would benifit the engine whilst I have it out, also can they be bored out larger safely if needed . Used to do all sorts of things with Cortina Mk 3 Pinto engines and now am a bit out of touch, or change the whole engine for a V8 and LPG it ?
  12. Ah but we did have a postal system second to none then ?
  13. Thanks for that Western What did we do before Computers, Mine will be off over the wekend as moving office to the next room, so will have top catch up on Monday. Have a nice weekend Regards Richard
  14. Thanks all, Hi Western I have along with the light bulb plug a white flat 3 or 4 spade connector floating around loose along with the headlight wires, would this be for a light ajuster or is it something else that was on a upgraded model. Cheers Richard
  15. Living in the middle of nowhere without any street lighting just country lanes I need good headlights. I have now put new ones on and they are Brilliant, that’s the point, as I have adjusted them correctly there is a down side. I use the 110 Utility for a work vehicle carrying spares and parts for work some of the parts may weigh 50 or 60 kg and I might have quite a lot in the back one day and then nothing the next. Without setting my headlights with a screwdriver every morning, is there a mod that can be done to fit adjustable headlights from another vehicle so I can adjust from inside the cab. Any help welcome Regards Richard
  16. Just a quikki I have a 110 Utility for my work and running 2 1/2 ton, I changed the springs to Standard Heavy duty (no lift) and put new shock on it and it is perfect, I have also seen some Utility defenders with a double spring set up working on the powerlines, so no reason why yours should bottom out unless springs have gone weak, and as an ex MOD vehicle you know its had a a rough life. Just my pennys worth. Regards Richard
  17. Hi Guys, Nice over here isn't it, especially the yellow wall paper and the view is far better than the Defender forum as well I thought I would pop across and ask a question, does the TD5 Discovery suffer from warped Exhaust manifolds as the Defender does, as I am trying to solve the problem without spending £600 on a new manifold, I run a 2002 110 td5 utility wagon running about 170 bhp. I have had the manifold skimmed and it warped again, cut the webs and had it skimmed and it has now done it again, so I was wondering if you guys have the same problems, or a decent cure. Regards Richard
  18. I have no idea ? good question though, if it is does the engine suffer from the same problem, I think I will hop over to the discovery boys and ask them. Hope they don't bite
  19. In that case it will be cheaper to make one ! I will have to put some thought into fixing the problem. Regards Richard
  20. Thanks Diesel-90 I had come across that one but didn't read it as I thought it was the standard Cast Manifold and I hate it when companies don't put the price on display. But I have sent them an email to find out the cost. Many Thanks Richard
  21. Hi Folks, Getting fed up of the manifold blowing, as it has done it again, and that is after having the webs cut and faced flat, it has lasted about 6 to 8 months this time, engine running about 175 hp. I have seen them on specialised engines but can you but a tubular 5 branch manifold for the TD5 ? Regards Richard
  22. Hi Their Tanuki and Andrew I had a long bit typed and a lot of explanation and then deleted it, ! normal for me. I have tried the engine and pump brake thing, nothing as it is really solid to start with and doesn't go down when the engine is fired up, so I will have a look at the pipework and rubbers tomorrow and let you know. Regards Richard
  23. Hi Andy Just tried the vacuum pipe today, it has a constant vacuum on pipe and is sucking, enough to stay stuck onto your finger, but as I found out today, if you apply brakes gently they work fine but as today meeting a speeding car on a bend in a country lane, and I am doing about 15 to 20 mph as I know what the bend is like, I put the brakes on hard and the pedal goes rock hard and hardly any braking effect ?
