Hi all,
I've been after a blanking plate for a snorkel conversion on a Defender 110, its the one on the top of the wing drivers side that blanks off the opening when you have a snorkel fitted!
Anyone know who sells these?
Thanks Ted

Hi everyone,
I just bought a set of polyair bags to fit on my defender 110 but the fitting instructions are a bit unclear as to how to fit the metal braket to the top of the spring bracket! Anyone got any pic's of how they have done this?
Any help would be great thanks

Heelo all
I want to shure up the 110 when its loaded up and was pointed in the direction of Polyair bags in the back springs of the 110! I have had a look at them and wanted advise off anyone who was using them? Also while looking in to them some one from ARB pointed me in the direction of a make called airbagman, who are made by Firestone, he said that the valves are a bit dodgy on the Polyair ones and thus the Firestone ones are much better??????
Also do they work are they worth the cash for what they do???
Thanks for any input

Hi decided to get a new cable STC 1530 is the part number I'm looking at but want to make sure its the right part (as getting it sent from UK)
The defender is a 110 300Tdi 1996 vin TA989340

Thanks very much everyone,
The cable does release but just springs back up enough to operate the switch, to get it to fully let go I have to pull the gater up and hold handbrake down & put my finger on the cable which is bent up (thus making the cable spring up!) and press down so cable goes into the sheath! Not a good operation to do if being followed by the police!! The wife also refuses to do this can't think why, I mean the grease/oil comes off after a while. as long as you don't forget and start picking your nose!! ( not a good look)

Hello all,
First of all happy new year! I have a annoyance with the hand brake lever, it springs back up when I disengage it and the handbrake light comes on, pushing it down doesn't seem to cure it, today I took off the handbrake drum to clean inside, but it was pretty clean to start, everything was in place, so now I'm thinking is it the cable has it stretched or has the spring on the cable inside the drum become too compressed so not pulling back on the cable?
Has anyone else come across this and how did they sort out the problem?
Any info would be great

The tracks are still rough went through there about month ago with a few other forum members from another forum.
My clutch is also on the to do list my clutch is fine its just the clunk sound so Iam quessing its the release bearing.
Ive had a quote from MR Auto at Redcliff to replace with heavy duty new fork rear main seal ect $1500.00 bucks so will see what happens as I dont have the all the tools do the job.Ive got to get my leaking lift pump fixed/rebuilt first there goes $1500.00.
Azza
Yep they aint cheap!! MR that is, but on the other hand they are very good,
I'd like to say I'd give you a hand to do the clutch but I have my hands full at the moment building a garage, so Ive got somwhere to work on my old girl!
all the best ted

Gday Ted
My old defender makes the same noise when my foot is off the clutch but when you push the clutch in it stops and sometimes when I release the clutch slowly it dosent happen. Also when i take it for a long drive and come home let it idle before shutting it down the soumd is not there.
Have talked to other fender owners some of there fenders make the same sound and with 337 000km on the clock gotta expect a few noises.
Goodluck with it Ted keep us posted..
Azza
P.s We should catch up one day for drive......Compare noises and leaks
Nice to know I'm not alone ! (hearing noises that is!)
Azza that sounds good, we love Bribie Island, great place and a good beach. How is the inland track nowadays? The last time we drove it it was pretty rough,
All seems well with the clutch, for now but as a few have said its on the to do list!!!!!!!!!! With everything else!!!!!!
Cheers ted

Sounds like the release bearing to me - or possibly the clutch centre.
Les.
cheers
So if its the release bearing whats happening is it shot or just a sign its on its way?
I did have somthing similar happen to me about two years ago, my foot slipped of the clutch when it was in neutral and it made a right racket, but has been ok since then!
What do you mean by the clutch centre?
Cheers ted

Hi all,
I was at work today when my wife phoned saying that the 110 was making an awful noise:
Let me explain she had started the 110 with the clutch depressed, when she let the clutch out, still being in neutral, she says that she let the clutch out faster than if she was taking up drive because it was in neutral. But there was a right racket upon letting the clutch off, she then depressed the clutch in and the noise stopped, but didn't want to drive it so she called me. (just to make my day!!!)
I'm thinking it could be the release bearing but am not sure?
I got home and started it and all seemed well although there seems to be a chuka chuka chuka sound(in neutral with my foot off the clutch) that I'm pretty sure has always been there coming from the clutch bell housing.
But it drove well and all seemed well.
What do think this noise could have been?
If its the release bearing is it likly to go bang!!
Cheers in advance

Dunno about 300Tdi vintage, but on my '86 there is a bundle of earth wires connected together with a screw and nut behind the instruments. This worked loose a while ago and made my gauges go wild.
Thanks will check it out!

Hi all,
Anyone know where to start looking for a problem with the fuel gauge(300Tdi) I have noticed that it starts to flicker up and down now and again ? I have sprayed the wiring going to the fuel tank sender unit but it still happens now & again?
Anyone any clues?
Thanks ted

Hi,
I have had an issue with the A/C on the car for a while now and its bugs me, so I was wondering if anyone has had similar issues with thier A/C units?
The problem being it seems that the fan under the dash fills with water I've blown through the pipes from the drain hose under the car which doesn't seem blocked. When I turn the A/C on you can hear water splashing about in the fan especially when going around a corner! I did think that it could be from rain leaking in through the vents but have pretty much ruled that out now!
Anyone any clues?

You can buy adapters to make them fit though.
Chris
Where can you get the adapters from?
Oh and are they expensive?
Cheers ted
-
They do not fit at all due to a different PCD.
PCD can you explain please?

Hello, anyone know if a set of, 1999 series ll Discovery wheels fit well on a 110 Defender?

Hello, all
Just a quick question about the bearing change for the belt tensioner on a 300Tdi, I know that the drive belt tensioner is left hand thread! But are the aircon tensioner & idler left hand thread as well I guess they are but want to make sure?
Thanks ted
-
As I pointed out in that thread, the aircon tensioner bearing is often a smaller 6301. Dunno why, so we stock both just in case. Also easy to get and cheap.
Thanks very much for that everyone!
-
When doing the cambelt change it was pointed out that the auxilary drive belt tensioner bearing was not sounding the best and needs to be replaced anyone know what size/part number the bearing is as I'm thinking of pressing the old one out and replacing it! oh also the air con belt tensioner?
cheers ted
