  1. That does sound like a typical Land rover thing to do! However I thought that the V8i Discovery's had an excessive transfer box temperature light on the dashboard which was switched on at around 120 deg C. I think the switch is PRC7984, but have never owned one so cannot be sure if the dash light is correct or not. Toby
  2. I have a transfer box from a discovery 1 currently being rebuilt with a temperature switch in the side and yes definetly for temperature. Toby
  3. Thanks Ralph - I did not realise there was two versions of the tie bar in the first diagram. I obviously have the short version as it is about an inch too short. Time to crack out the electric glue gun then! Thanks.
  4. Anyone got the exploded diagram and part numbers of the parts required for securing the spare wheel in a double cab or pick up against cab bulkhead? Toby
  5. Thought it was retired!!! I would be very surprised if the clutch was on its way out due to how long it has been fitted, but then I used to tow with it and had two dumpy bags of stone on my trailer going up some steep hills just before you had it, but never any smelly any clutch whiffs! The gearbox needs engine oil and not ATF/EP stuff. The box fitted is the better LT85 (solid case) with the oil pump, I just used to change it with either the Castrol or Shell engine oil depending what I had! There is a filter under the big plug also, but never saw any swarf in it. Toby
  6. No space under the bonnet, but tight to rear bulkhead and under the seat is currently looking favorite. Toby
  7. Has the clutch gone already? That was an AP clutch from Ashcroft's not long ago and the gearbox oil was 15w40 changed at every engine oil change. Overkill, but I had a good free supply at the time! I must change my picture as that is now yours!! Toby
  8. I have removed my old small ARB compressor from my 90 and I am about to install it into my 110 double cab, however while I seem to have more room now, I cannot decide where best to fit it. I had it on the rear seat box of my 90, but that was a County and as such weather tight (well sort of!). This would seem the best place to put it on my 110, but not sure how much if any protection the soft top will provide and sort of worried about displaying to all when it is parked that ARB's are fitted. The other place could be under the rear seat, but using that for HiLift, tow ropes etc So then where have you fitted your compressors in your double cabs? Toby
  9. All sorted, the plastic adaptor price was seized to the lock ring and came off together. I did split the old lock ring in half and still could not get the adaptor out on one price. Fortunately the main stealer had adaptor and lock ring in stock for a tenner, which was cheaper than eBay. Bonus!
  10. Did the white plastic adaptor just screw out the lock ring? Mine seems slightly stubborn at the moment and the will to give it some brute force is slightly reduced by the fact it is jammed on the new fuel pump, which incidentally fixed a starting issue and made the engine ever so lively!!
  11. VM engines should only be used for anchors IMHO! They did make them as 4 cylinder for the RRC, but also 5 cylinder And 6 cylinder for other applications. I had to go on a VM course many moons ago as they used them for marine use and even the bloke taking the course said they were junk!
  12. Changed my fuel pump last weekend and all well again. Went to fill it up today and ended up with diesel running out through the top. I did leave the hole in the floor open to see and it was leaking at a fair rate. Fortunately I got home quick and siphoned diesel off down to a level which meant it is not leaking all over the floor. Not sure how I messed it up so bad, but feel I have something wrong with my lock ring. I cannot get the lock ring off the top of the pump as it has a white inner plastic piece which I think should be on the tank and not in the metal ring!!! Has any one got an exploded diagram or pictures of how it goes so I cannot put it back together properly? I may have to go to the main stealer and get a new lock ring in the morning to, but realise it does not seal here. Toby
  13. My 90 did the same on 265 Goodyears and I changed back to the green, which by all accounts should not read any where near right, but did read bang on with my Garmin. They only take a couple of minutes to change, so give it a try.
  14. I am pretty sure it is blue (just took a blue out of my 110 when replacing the transfer box) . It will be the same for either transfer box regardless of ratio. The only time it would change is if you change anything downstream of the transfer box such as tyre sizes or diff ratios.
  15. Changed my pump last weekend and, touch wood, down to half a tank and no starting issues! Toby
  16. I have the same issue on a 110. I have a new pump ready to fit, but so far no time!!
  17. Thanks Chaps - will have to wait until I get back from South Africa. Working is calling yet again!
  18. Is there an easy way to remove tinting from windows? Mine which came with the vehicle looks rubbish as it has been scratched and makes looking in the side mirrors hard and impossible when it is dark. Toby
  19. Looks like a Winston Pincombe sticker. It looks like a race lightened 90 with no doors, most of the crossmember missing and the immense weight of the rear brake pipes!!
  20. Brookwells are fine as long as you specify nothing in a blue box, they are just not as handy as the 4x4 store was. Still cannot believe that they just shut it overnight and shipped everything up to Devon 4x4 which is in the middle of nowhere! You can still get bits from them mail order but it comes from the D4x4 stores and at their prices, but then you are just as well going to Paddocks, Brit-car etc.
  21. VDO one does sound better, just do not want to have to fit another in six months. All the TD5 110's I have seen seem to have a hole in the rear floor so I think I may put a hole in the floor as I have a sheet of aluminum sheet in the back courtesy of a previous owner. Toby
  22. Can anyone vouch for a Bearmach TD5 fuel pump quality wise? Think I may need a new one as I have a starting issue, but only when fuel is below 3/4 of a tank - above this no issue even if left for two weeks and am assuming fuel is draining out of it when below a certain level. Toby
  23. Forgot to mention it is a 2002 TD5 with air con if it makes a difference.
  24. Evening can anyone let me know the part number of the foam seal which seals between the heater blower inlet and the plastic air box under the front wing? Just looking for a wind noise from the front passenger foot well when doing over 50mph and noticed that part of this seal was missing. Thanks.
