  1. I changed the air filter about three months ago as part of a full servic but I'll certainly check it.
  2. Thanks, I wondered about the exhaust last night and certainly worth checking.
  3. Thanks. The MOT station is a sole trader on my trading estate so might be willing to let me use his.
  4. Thanks for the responses, I'll try adjusting the mixture and take it back for a re-test. Is there any way that I can judge when the mixture is correct?
  5. So its the Lambda value that's causing the problem. Needs to be between a min. limit of 0.970 and a max. limit of 1.030 an is currently running at 1.036.
  6. It is a 7 seater (two in front, three in back plus rear dickie seats). Stupidly I left the emissions report at home this morning but I think it was burning oil.
  7. My 1995 V8i (no LPG) has just failed its MOT on emissions. I know this one can be a can of worms, any one got any ideas?
  8. Very interested by all the additional comments that re-opening this topic has inspired and now feeling very undecided about if to fit a twin-fan set-up or not. Given I was only really considering this mod as a add-on for wading I'm now thinking maybe I should just water-proof my electrics as well as I can rather than start modifying something that's working fine as originally supplied. Thanks for all the comments.
  9. Fair point Fridge Freezer. I'm probably just being over cautious and have run V8's before that didn't have an oil cooler. I suppose as a fail safe I could also wire the fans into the oil temperature light circuit so, if the oil was ever overheating, this would trigger the fans on?
  10. 'Dont forget that a V8 3.9 radiator incorporates an oil cooler and it's only the coolent temperature thats controls the fan so there may be times the oil is getting too hot but the fan is not running' I've been thinking about doing the same mod to my 3.9 V8i for wading but have been worried about the oil getting hot when the rad coolant isn't. Any suggestions on a way of solving this?
  11. Haven't been able to post for a while, death in family, been away. Turned out to be the ignition amplifier and a hairline crack in the disi cap. Running perfectly now, no cutting out (fingers crossed). Thanks for all the advice.
  12. Yes, I wondered about that. I had a mate with an MGC that used to cut out and it turned out to be the weight of all his keys (house, work etc) on his key ring that kept pulling at the switch and cutting it off. He took all the non-car keys off and, hey presto, no more problems. I did take the steering cover off and check the wiring in to the switch, all seemed fine, but it could be the unit itself of course. I just had a frustrating drive home where the engine kept cutting out at every junction, traffic light and crossing; it certainly seems to be getting worse. Put the old immob. unit back in this afternoon and at least the hazard light issue has gone away again. Ho hum, off to Brownchurch tomorrow we go ... I hate not being able to fix my own problems!
  13. Thanks for the comments guys. It does have the two button control fob but, as I say, I can't find a spider. I've had the front of the dash (radio and heater etc) out. Removed the glove box, steering cover, fuse box cover and the n/s and o/s footwell trim but can't see one so am at a loss as to where it might be hiding? The alarm siren under the bonnet (o/s) has been disconnected which may suggest she's had alarm activation problems in the past. I wondered about the ECU / power to the ECU - where is the ECU located normally? Because I've been burning all my time on the spider search I haven't looked at the ignition amplifier, distributor, coil, idle stepper motor on the back of the plenum chamber possibiliies at all apart from staring at them. The bit that has always thrown me is the couple of times she's cut out and then not re-started because of no power to the starter. That's what sent me down the spider route first of all but perhaps the issues arn't connected? If I get time later on today then I'll give them a look before heading off to Brownchurch tomorrow. Like most of us finding time is my enemy. Will keep you posted.
  14. I'm giving up on solving this problem myself and have booked the truck in with Brownchurch tomorrow in the hope that the blokes there will be able to solve it. I'm swapping back to my old immobilisher box later today because the hazard light issue isn't going away and, if anything, my cutting out issue is worse. I'm at a complete loss.
  15. So my 'new' Ebay unit arrived and was fitted. Works fine when armed with the fob but the hazard lights will then flash three times every two minutes and never stop flashing when armed via the key only ... why? Hasn't cured my engine cutting out problem either so now at a total loss! Probably better re-fit the old unit. Had a good hunt for a spider unit again today but if it's in the truck I can't find it.
