  1. Im in the process of getting the V8 rebuilt to go in the 85 - ninety The engine on the bench has had the rings and big end bearings, done and my mechie is wondering how to change the camshaft bearing, one is difficult to get to and change apparently, im not to familiar with this engine, hence why ive let my mechie mate do the spannering on this one. Any information or help is appreciated. Cheers Glen
  2. L&G, We are building a D1 for an overland journey from Tanga in Tanzania to Cape town in SA. Some years ago in the Land Rover magazine, there was an article on a D1 with a V8 engine which had travelled up and down africa covering many miles. I remember most the articles from the rift valley. I am struggling to find these articles again, espicially the pictures of the D1 in the camp position. I am sure members of this forum remember this article, and could help me find it again. Appreciate the help warm regards from chilly Norway Glen
  3. I am looking to get the chassis swapped on my 85 90 V8. I am looking for a workshop to carry out this job, and would like to hear experiences of anyone who has this work done. Glen
  4. Russ, I need some information on the braking effect or what the maximum load on the brakes would be, I know the trailers are rated for 750 kg load but the brakes should handle more. Brakes diameter, Brake caliper type / manufacturer. Maximum braking load. If any paperwork is available showing the engineering calculations / test performed that would be great. The other alternative which I am not sure they would let me do, is to put a 1000 liter tank on the trailer, fill it with 250 litres, and put it on a brake tester, then 500 litres then 750 litres then 1000 litres just to prove that the brakes are good enough. Glen
  5. Yeah, I was at Gudvangen, but I was warm and dry in a cabin. I could remove the brakes, but as the trailer is 560 kg I could only legally load 210 kg. Which would not be alot. Another angle is to approach an engineering company and ask them to reverse engineer the test on the brakes and find out if they are good enough. Thanks for all the advice, Glen
  6. L&G, Does any one have any information on the hydraulic brakes fitted to the wolf trailers. I tried to contact Universal engineering who gave me the blow off, archives, cost more to look then trailers worth etc MOD information. The vehicle inspectors here in Norway will not let me get the trailer approved for road use without documentation on the braking system. Has this information ever been released ? got forbid if the enemy every got there hands on it..... I am in particular looking for brake tests. Glen
  7. I put Cooper STT 285/75 R16 on Zu rims on my 2" lifted 110. I like the way it looked, I had 265/75 R16 on previously, but I thought it looked far too high under the wheel arches. Glen
  8. I'm having the same with my 06 TD5. Alot of my neighbors work late or night shift, so I am not the flavor of the month at the moment. The problem first showed up after I washed the 110, the alarm went off after 2 hours, it now goes off when its rains, I have been in contact with the dealer on the phone who says he cant disconnect it. I thought this was a one off problem with it after the wash, as it didnt reoccur for a week even in heavy rain, but the problem showed up again in the last few days and twice in the last few hours. Its driving the neighbours mad, plus I can't lock the doors any more due to the fact the alarm may go off. Any suggestions ? Can't be the first defender that has this problem. Glen
