  1. BP made the choice to remove all of their LPG tanks from their BP-owned filling stations a few years back - there's only a few franchises around that still have them. Shell announced recently that they are removing theirs as they refurbish the stations, which is really annoying for me as there was a station within half a mile of work, and another one on the motorway mid-commute that I could use. Both are now gone Since countrywide went bust and Flogas picked up their LPG network they seem to be running it down as well - the local Countrywide became a Mole Farm Stores, and the LPG tank has now gone.. There's still a few places locally that I can fill up, but it's harder to not have to make a special trip to fill rather than there being somewhere en-route. It's a shame really, I don't think it's going to be that far into the future that LPG stops being a day to day usable option
  2. Almost certainly - if you wanted to bring an entire country to it's knees, take the communications infrastructure offline, followed by power/utilities and within a few weeks the country will have ground to a complete halt. No comms - no purchases online or offline (cash would work for a few days). No re-supply of supermarkets, petrol stations, pretty quickly the country would revert to total chaos.. And that's even before you have turned the power and water off...
  3. Not just doorbells... The Internet of Thingies, Ken Munro Pen Test Partners Ken Munro of Pen Test Partners takes us on an interesting, amusing and scary journey through internet connected consumer devices. From children's toys (and, ahem, adult toys) to TV's and cars. For anybody in a product company watching this, please heed Ken's plea "when security researchers approach you - talk to them!" - you're doing the world a service. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt0ojsOMNgs I saw this chap do his presentation live a few years ago at an IT security conference, it really is eye opening how insecure a lot of 'Internet of Things' devices are, yet most consumers blindly connect them to their networks..
  4. The level of data science and profiling that everyone is subject to, all day every day is pretty mind boggling - it's big business now, multi-billions of dollars worth all to build up a picture of you and try and influence your behaviour. If you don't know what's going on, the only conclusion is that it must be magic, or they must be listening in to be able to serve you ads so accurately - the reality is that they probably know more about your habits than you do! There's a quote that goes round: (from https://www.metafilter.com/95152/Userdriven-discontent#3256046) Facebook isn't a social network, it's a marketing platform, just the same as google isn't a search engine now, it's a marketing platform. Their sole intention is to be able to serve you ads, that you will click on to buy things which will earn them money. If you have netflix and a spare hour or two and like this stuff, watching "The Great Hack" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Hack) about Cambridge Analytica and the 2016 Trump campaign (and maybe Brexit). CA used data harvested from Facebook to serve the right ads to the right people to influence the way they voted, and potentially changed the course of the election...
  5. It is, and it isn't... They aren't listening to your conversations, but the data mining and profiling algorithms are very, very clever.. In Ross' case, maybe you changed your facebook relationship status, or your ex- did, or one of your ex's friends mentioned in a post or something that you'd split up, so therefore you get targeted with adverts that single people may click on more than those in a relationship. Likewise you have a voice conversation with someone that 'they' know you are connected to, they then go google for something you talked about, they get targeted with ads for it, as do you because you are associated with them. Probably your whole circle of acquaintances all got the same adverts, but it just seems weird to you...
  6. IIRC Ring in the US would share any footage with the authorities at their request, without you having to grant permission or requiring a warrant. I'm not sure if the same applies here though. I terms of Amazon, they do a HUGE amount of data mining, yes. Their 'view' is that it means that they can run more efficient stock control, deliveries etc by basically knowing what you will buy before you do, but they also do a huge amount of targeted marketing, and quite a few marketplace sellers that have a successful product suddenly find themselves in competition with Amazon themselves and priced out of the market. All of the big tech companies do it - even if you don't have a facebook account, you more than likely have a 'ghost' account where they have figured out who you know, who you contact etc so they can more effectively serve you ads : https://medium.com/@SpiderOak/facebook-shadow-profiles-a-profile-of-you-that-you-never-created-302f99f20930 The US have very different laws to data privacy than Europeans do - for the most part, they 'accept' that they are being monitored and just get on with it, and they really don't understand the Europeans view on privacy, unfortunately I have to deal with this most days as part of my job!
  7. Thanks - I'll need to have a proper check of mine, it looks like there's a metal restrictor at the bottom of the rocker spout that has the spiral in: https://landroverforums.com/forum/discovery-ii-18/v288-fv308-pcv-install-92942/page5/#post691054 I plumbed mine in yesterday as per the manual and developed a really bad pick up stumble from idle, so not sure if the slight air bleed round the system is throwing it and I need to reset idle / idle enrichment or if something still isn't quite right...
  8. Found a thread with pics - looks like some of them have a restrictor disc in the rocker cover, but after some point they stopped fitting them: https://landroverforums.com/forum/discovery-ii-18/v288-fv308-pcv-install-92942/
  9. Found a description of the factory setup: https://workshop-manuals.com/landrover/p38/17_emission_control/description_and_operation/emission_control_land_rover_v8/page_328/ It doesn't seem to mention anything about a restrictor, and there's varying conflicting reports as to if it's needed! I probably have a spare PCV from another car kicking about somewhere, I suppose I could plumb that in if needed...
  10. Hmm - OK - the inlet on mine was originally on a 3.5 with open breathers, so where the 4.6 breather would normally connect to has been repurposed for the brake vac hose.... Typical LR, nothing is as it was from the factory It looks like the original breather -> manifold fitting is ERR6880, so you are saying that has a 4mm ID restrictor in it? Thanks!
  11. Hi All Trying to sort the breather setup out on my 4.6 with a Thor top end, can someone help confirm the following: Right hand (drivers) bank rocker breather has a spiral oil separator in the rocker 'spout'. Breather pipe on RHS bank goes to vacuum source after the throttle body. There's no additional PCV / restrictor in the hose. Breather pipe on the LHS bank goes straight from rocker cover to inlet pre-throttle body. Again no restrictor / PCV? Just trying to figure it all out - from my research air is drawn in through the LHS rocker, round the engine and out of the RHS, pulled by vacuum. However normally there's a PCV valve somewhere to stop it drawing air through the breathers all of the time, yet LR didn't seem to fit one from what I can see...
  12. Looks like they are releasing the episodes over the next few weeks, so make sure you time your free trials appropriately! We watched the first three (only three are out so far) last night - seems good so far! Interesting with the amount of help they are getting from Harley and Rivian - especially the latter where they have the first two prototype trucks ever built! It does seem that they aren't holding back on the technical challenges either - when there's problems with the bikes they are highlighting them rather than it just being glossed over..
  13. Yup, will be watching this! CB's Extreme Frontiers and I believe the older Long Way series are on Amazon Prime as well if you have access to that..
  14. I think a lot of that has gone away with modern injectors and the improvements in spray - my little 4 pot 1.8 turbo is happy idling on 660cc injectors (on MS3), plenty of people are running 1000cc injectors with no problems (mainly in the US where E85 fuel demands +30% fuel). There's virtually no point in going much bigger than standard in a LR though!
  15. Do any EV6 style injectors drop straight in? If so that brings some more options.. I have a spare GEMS fuel rail and injectors somewhere, might have to do some investigation...
  16. A 4 door Jeep JK, which I would imagine is roughly the same size as a 110 is about $8000 https://www.hardbody4x4.com/uploads/6/4/2/2/6422733/usd_-_jeep_pricing_-_retail_sept_2018.pdf
  17. Spotted this on another forum and thought it may be of use for some of the people on here... https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=8&t=1885095 It details some newer/better drop in injectors that are much more modern than the standard (ancient) lucas ones, so should in theory provide better fuel atomisation and possibly a bit better economy...
  18. Once it's a bit better setup I'd be happy to - at the moment it's still a work in progress trying to work through all of the niggles, and I've not been able to do any 'proper' cold start testing as the weather hasn't got cold enough yet!
  19. Maybe a bit late, but I fitted an AGM battery to mine based on other threads on here a while back: 019 Enduroline AGM Start Stop Car Battery 95Ah - https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/enduroline/019-agm/ The 019 fits into the 110 under seat battery tray pretty much perfectly (although I think the floor has been altered at some point in the 110's past). I went AGM as apparently they cope with being sat for a while and discharging better than a normal battery, 850 CCA seemed high enough and it actually worked out cheaper than the equivalent non AGM size. They are also sealed so no worries about leakage should I end up upside down! It spins over my Thor 4.6 with no issues at all. Been playing with the priming pulses and it will start from cold within half a second...
  20. I've looked at doing similar so will follow this with interest.. One thing I did wonder is what happens with the rear seat belts - if you move the rear seats back then the seat belt shoulder mount is going to be in front of the occupant - so it may be uncomfy or potentially unsafe.. Not entirely sure how you'd get round this without moving the entire seatbelt mechanisms and mounting points..
  21. Looks like the spring rates are: Flatdog +2 : 220lbf/in OME +2 : 200lbf/in The FD ones are rated as medium/heavy duty, the OME are rated for up to 50kg extra weight and have v8 specific ones (but typically are a few quid more expensive!). Have just ordered the OME ones - will see how I get one with them... Thanks again!
  22. Thanks both - will have to get researching!
  23. Hi All Doing some work on the 110 today and have spotted that both front springs are broken... Current setup is De Carbon shocks all round - front part number v45 3883 23 which I believe is +2 compared to standard length, so would need +2 springs to suit. Existing springs appear to be aftermarket, no markings other than being very orange and now in multiple pieces! Majority of usage is on road with the occasional green lane. It's a 110 CSW v8 so has a little less weight on the nose than most. Any suggestions on springs and poundage? Thanks! Jon
  24. No - they don't look *that* different to the wipac crystal lights, they certainly don't stand right out like the ones with the big bug eyes like the JW Speaker. They look different lit up - obviously the colour temp of the light is different, and on dip only half lights up - one half is low beam, the other half high. There's also 2 LEDs in the middle bar which can be used as DRLs, but I've never bothered..
  25. Hopefully I'm sorted - £130 ebay special alloy rad actually looks very good, and came in a box suggesting it's not a chinese special but from a European rad specialist. If the weather holds I'll try and get it fitted later and will take some pics..
