  1. Hi, For a while now, I've noticed that when driving us a moderate slope, under medium acceleration, as the enigne revs rise towards 2200rpm the engine revs appear to suddenly fluctuate, in that they drop down to about 2000rpm and then rise up to 2200 (in the space of just over 1 second), then dip again etc. But if I gently increase the acceleration it passes through these fluctuations and is generally fine, although sometimes repeats the pattern at 2700rpm. Its not really noticable to passengers, but is obviously something of concern as it might indicate that something is on its way out. I've replaced the fuel fiter and diesel lift pump recently for other reasons, and tried some injector cleaner (even though there is little or no smoke form the exhaust) but neither have not made any change to the engine revs problem. Has anyone on here encountered this before, is it common? Whats the most likely culprit?! Many thanks, Chris
  2. Thanks! How does the system work, is the meshing of the transfer box servo operated?
  3. Hi, Just picked up a P38 auto, diesel, very nice, but like an idiot when test driving it I selected the low ratio box and then went to put it in reverse whilst the warning beep was being emitted, as soon as I heard the resulting crunch I put it back in neutral. Now my qustion is this... am I likely to have done any serious damage to the box? Having now read the owners manual it does warn that you could 'crunch the gears' on a manual if you force it into gear before the car is ready for low ratio mode, so I guess a little crunching of gears is expected on the rare occasion? Hate to think I've just knocked 50,000 miles off the box already!
  4. If you were to buy a caliper for vented disks [RTC6776] for the disco from say Paddocks (thats what I did), then one for solid disks you'd find that the vented disk caliper has two connections for the dual pipes, RTC6776 seems to be applicable for all pre and post 1995 models up until the MK2.
  5. Dont forget you'll need to upgarde to dual brake lines to each front caliper, what fun!
  6. For info: Changed the IRD, it took 3 of us about 4 hours but that did include changing both front struts as the shockers were carp - the job wasnt as bad as I was expecting, its a little fiddly trying to get the new IRD into place but probably easier if you have access to a a hydraulic lift. Hasnt changed the issue of high engine revs at 70mph+ though. Fitting bigger tyres did help bring the revs down a little though.
  7. After somehow running with the 235/70/16's for a while now (and finding no problems with rubbing unless really driven hard off road) it was time for a new MOT and as the rears were just on the legal limit I decided to replace them with the next size down just to get the extra clearance, went for 225/70/16's, they have a 15 - 20mm smaller diameter, and not quite so wide obviously - I think that this is probably the best option for someone wanting fatter tyres but who doesnt want to wait for the day when the tyres rub when driving fast off road. Will try and get some good before and after pics for the archieve!
  8. Has anyone tried Paddocks own brand of slotted and cross drilled brake disks? They are a lot cheaper than the EBC disks at only £40+vat a pair for my 1995 Disco. I've emailed them asking who makes them and will post their response here. Anything that helps the brakes on my Disco work better are worth a go!
  9. Anyone tried one of these? http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/DISCOVERY_...ification).html
  10. Hi, Yep, removed the plastic inner arch and changed the aerial, now I need a couple of strange rivits that play out with 4 'arms' into slots in the outer wing, never seen them before, I also realised that the front inner wing next to the battery box has started to corrode, when I pulled outt he plastic studs a great lump of inner wing came with 2 of them! I hope someone is making new repair panels that dont cost the earth!
  11. Anyone done this before? Does it require the front wing to be partially or fully removed, if so how is it held on, Ive seen a few screws alone the top of the wing but are there any hidden out of the way I need to be aware of? Thanks.
  12. ABS now sorted thanks to a new sensor, its never worked since I bought the vehicle 2 years ago. One quick question though, on my RangeRover 1990 the ABS pump can be heard to spin up and pressurise(?) the system - the brakes feel 'strong' - as soon as the ignition is switched on. On the disco the pump doesnt fire-up and the brakes dont feel too strong, however the ABS system does seem to work after testing it on some dirt today. Can any other Disco owners tell me if their ABS pump can be heard to spin up on staring the car? Maybe the pump only switches on in the event of a wheel locking up, and my carp brakes are down to a worn master cylinder (replaced all calipers and disks etc)? Thanks!
  13. Tried the WD40 trick! Amazing, it actually worked, YES, now all doors lock and unlock form the key-fob, no more convoluted pushing buttons to lock the car routine!
  14. My old Citroen Xantia which ran on 95% pure 'new' veggi had its lowest emisions reading at the MOT for years! the guy doing the test said it was something to do with the way that veggi oil cleans the injectors or something? I should never have sold that car!
