  1. Just to add to this now as it's doing my head in. I've just used a comparison site using various Registration Numbers off ebay for other 90 Defender CSW of the same age (obviously I don't know if they are original CSW but they claim to be) and they are all coming back as pickups... A phone call to DVLA on Monday is on the agenda now - hope they play nice music
  2. Qwakers, I'm aware what PLG stands for I drive a car as well and that's PLG - vans are surely classed as LCV light commercial vehicle. Body Type is Light 4x4 Utility. It was 1st sold as a county station wagon TDI (have original 1997 receipts from Land Rover dealership) and the VIN number confirms this as it has the 7th letter as a B - if it was an A it would be a pickup. Lancaster took my money last year and for the previous 12 years and my registration number listed it as a 90 Defender County SW - the VC5 has it listed the same. Barbara
  3. Evening - I have posted about this on another forum and sorry for hijacking the thread... I've owned my Defender 90 since 2003 and have always insured it through Lancaster. When I looked through my renewal quote it had almost doubled in price and they now had the vehicle listed as a van with 5 seats instead of the usual 90 Defender County SW TDI with 6 seats. At what point did my County SW change to a commercial van? It has never been modded has always had 4 rear seats and rear side windows rather than slab sides. It's body type on the VC5 is Light 4x4 Utility and I've always assumed that it was a PLG car (estate) it is listed as PLG on VC5. There is nothing listed in the vehicle category (line J) on VC5 - model on VC5 is 90 Defender County SW TDI and a 1997 P reg It is an original CSW says it on the VC5 (90 Defender County SW TDI) and has the 7th letter as a B in the VIN confirming it is a CSW. When I put my registration number in the LEZ checker it say my vehicle is ok and not subject to LEZ. I took my custom elsewhere - if I had taken the cover on the phone with Lancaster it would have been void and I would not have known until paperwork came through. I rang Lancaster about this and the woman said it was something to do with their underwriters how the vehicle is listed ( I'm not convinced) and then quoted me over £700 for the extra seat instead of the 5 they were saying I had. Flux gave me a quote after they played about with the vehicle details which I still thought was expensive so took out insurance elsewhere and they have it listed correctly on the insurance documents including the 6 seats. Even though my insurance is sorted any help would be greatly appreciated as to why this is or am I missing something obvious... Barbara
  4. I was just looking at my previous posts before posting about something else. I never did manage to find these switches and we replaced them with something similar. After taking the door skin off to look at the central locking we found that the electric windows were fitted by Land Rover - there was a Land Rover sticker affixed to the motor with the date 1998 on it. I heard/read somewhere that the later 97 defender CSW had the correct wiring harness in place to allow for the electric windows and central locking to be fitted as an option like the 98 model. Very belated thanks for all your replies Barbara
  5. Can anyone supply a part number for the centre console twin electric window switches. I have searched with google but can only find the new type of switch - this is for a 1997 Defender 90. Thanks in advance Barbara
  6. I don't think it's meant to click when I open the electric windows, put the car in reverse, use the cigarette lighter, open the door, use the wipers and turn the radio on etc etc.... I can hear that relay click with just about everything I use. The old flasher relay unit only clicked when in use as expected the old one was a hella and the indicator sound was louder. I've read that thread about the f/f immobiliser we did fit a blanking unit to stop the fault.
  7. We replaced the flasher unit with a unipart PRC8876 and everything was fine to get the ticket for the Land Rover but now everytime we use something electrical in the car this relay clicks . We've since replaced the hazard switch and checked the earths on the vehicle but can find nothing else to stop this relay clicking. Any ideas? On another note last year we had problems with the immobiliser cutting in whilst driving along last year or after parking it up and not being able to start the vehicle for ages. This happened during this MOT after the flasher unit went and the mechanic couldn't start it to move it. Could there be a connection?
  8. Thanks It is a faulty flasher unit. We can put the dash back together now and adopt hand signals for a trip to the local land rover supplier tomorrow.
  9. Thanks for the speedy reply and greeting.... I've been told that the switch is fine as it's just been tested. Any ideas as to where the flasher unit is as the manual does not show it and it's cold and dark outside.
  10. Our 97 defender 90 has just failed it's MOT due to faulty indicators/hazard warning lights failure. They all worked fine when I left for the garage this morning and have developed this fault whilst it was stood on the forecourt waiting, hmmm. The fuses in the box are all ok and intact and the relay and lights are fine as when I arm the alarm they all work ie indicators flash and you can hear the relay click, so the fault seems to lie elsewhere. Has anyone else encountered this problem? or can anyone suggest where/what else to check. many thanks
