  1. Thanks for all the helpful replies. Any chance anyone can offer the same information relating to a Discovery 1 with a 2 inch lift? I'm happy to trim the arches at each end but I'd prefer to avoid having to cut them so much that a set of arches is required. Jeremy
  2. Can anyone advise the size tyres I'll be able to fit to a Disco 1 with a 1 inch lift without having to cut the arches or encounter tyres catching on the bodywork?
  3. I've managed to strip the tread in the cylinder head for the bolt that holds the injector for No1 cylinder in place. I know my best hope is to helicoil or equivalent but I wondered if anyone on here knows the thread and size of the bolt - I'm having trouble identifying it so I can order myself the relevent helicoil kit. Cheers
  4. I'd be very interested to know if any LR warranty claim is impacted by the fact your TD5 has been "Allisported". Lets face it by doing this you are putting more power through the gearbox than LR originally spec'd. I got mine "done" by Allisport at Billing this year just one day after picking it up from the LR dealer (so the wife wouldn't notice) ! I didn't go the whole hog - just the intercooler and chip remap, as mines an auto but it would be good to know if I need to keep my fingers crossed or if they say you're still covered.
  5. Over the weekend I've had a bit of a disaster in my 90!........again! The shock absorber mount on the off side of the rear axle has parted company with the rest of the axle. Close examination shows the axle is far rustier than I originally realised before I fitted it only a couple of months ago. I don't think repairing it is an option. I can get my hands on another Range Rover rear axle that is in much better condition but the shock mounts are in apposing directions (ie off later model RR). Are the shock mounts available as a part that can be welded on? If so who sells them? I've checked the technical archive and couldn't see anything there relating to this, but I know people who have done this in the past. Have checked with local suppliers and national suppliers websites and couldn't see anything listed.
  6. I replaced the fuel pump unit ( a few pennies short of £300 for a genuine one available straight away ) and everything works fine now - the light went out of it's own accord too so job done. Thanks for the helpful advice. Now I just need to sort out my 90!
  7. Ok so my 90 200Tdi is having some fueling problems which I slowly seem to be resolving. Now our trusty Freelander TD4 Auto has decided to do some attention seeking too! The fuel pump in the engine bay which is usually silent is making a lot of gurgling noises, as if air is passing through it, which suggest to me that perhaps the pump in the tank has failed? I've tried booking into the local specialist (not main dealer) who serviced the vehicle just a couple of weeks ago but they are too busy to help (until the end of May) is it worth removing the tank pump to see if its knackered? Or is it likely to be something else? The engine malfunction light is on - will this go out if the problem is resolved or would that need to be reset? Any advice welcome - to have one land rover playing up is frustrating to have one broken down and one thinking about it is bloody annoying!
  8. Thanks for the helpful suggestions - I've already tweaked the go cable just to avoid the engine cutting out as soon as the revs drop but as soon as I try to reduce the revs to a normal tickover she dies. I'm pretty sure it must be a fuel delivery issue so I'll have a go at some of the suggested solutions around the injectors, then work my way up to the more serious bits of work! Thanks again
  9. I've recently had a problem with my 90 due to corrosion of the fuel filler pipe. After a trip to Belgium for some off roading and the drive back along extremely wet roads my normally very well behaved 200tdi began to die at tick over. Having sorted out the corroded filler pipe, cleaned out the fuel tank of mud and contaminated diesel, replaced the lift pump and filter the engine does run better but it won't run at "normal" tick over. I'm also loosing top end speed which I guess equates to reduction in power. On start up the engine is more smokey than usual - the smoke is white not blue. Before I book it into my local LandRover experts I'd like some advise as to what to look at next?
