  1. Today I have checked both the wheel boxes which appeared to rotate freely. I dismantled the motor and one of the brushes was broken so I have ordered a replacement motor. But how can i check for low voltage?? Thanks
  2. Hi, my 2001 Defender has been parked up for a week. Today i went out and found the wipers have stopped working of a fashion. If I give them a bit of a push then they will start and wipe until I stop them. Again I have to help them to get going. I have checked the wheel boxes and appear free and motor will run if there is only a light load. Any help appreciated. SHOTROCK
  3. I have just done my side window seals using the video from Garrison Outfitters. I bought my own trim from Segal Motor Trimmings (Serial KR521) which is a rubber seal with a flocked channel. This was much better then the Woolies track and does not buckle at the corners. The rivets were 4mm x 12mm closed end. I did buy a bottle of Goo Gone but I don't think it is needed as the old felt came out easily enough. A tube of silicone for sealing the frame. Once all done and refitted not a single rattle!!!
  4. Well thanks everyone for there help. Have all the parts now and just waiting for the weekend when I can get on with it, Cheers Shotrock
  5. Thanks to everone on there replies.... Will let you know after the weekend how I got on. Shotrock
  6. I am going to replacing the rear discs at the weekend. The only thing I am unsure about is how tight to wind up the hub nut against the bearing. The manual gives the torque for the locking nut only. Any replies appreciated. Shotrock
  7. Chaps, myself and family are off to Tywyn for the week at Easter. Was wondering if anyone can come up with some not so technical lanes in the North Wales Area. About 40 mile radius of Tywyn would be fine. Regards SHOTROCK
  8. Thanks for everyones help. I used Araladite to glue the magnets back into the casing and gave the rest a clean up. Plugged it all backup and IT WORKED!!! So again thank you.. SHOTROCK
  9. Cheers Western for the diagrams. When i took the motor body apart, two magnets fell out. Am I right is saying this should not happen as they should be stuck to the motor casing... Shotrock
  10. My rear wiper stopped working today so I have taken off the door panel to get at the motor. There are two plugs onto the motor a three pin and a two pin. Does anyone know what each plug does. There appears to be power going to the motor and I can hear a noise in the motor and the lower section gets hot. Knowing this I took the motor off the door and when I turned in over water came out of the motor section. So I am assuming the motor is knackered. Would you agree??? Does anyone have a diagram for the wiring to the rear motor?? Any yes I have checked the fuses etc. Shotrock
  11. I replaced the lower seal on the rear door today and have noticed two cracks in the door itself. One were the wiper spindle goes through the door and another half way accross the door on the lower edge. Has anyone had the same problem, and can they be welded. SHOTROCK
  12. Have to agree with Jason that it is probably part of a vehicle tachograph. Do you have tachograph head fitted in the cab of the vehicle??? If you have not had the vehicle from new then it could of been fitted by the previous owner. If a landy or any other vehicle exceeds 3,5 tons (includes any trailer and load) and is used for hire or reward then a tacho must be fitted. Shotrock
  13. I know alot of members have removed there egr valve. Is it worth doing and does it increase performance. If you have done so then what make would you recommend, what make would you buy. SHOTROCK
  14. I have just replaced the battery. Mine is Bosch 110AH 800CCA that I got from Euro Car Parts for £100. The same spec at Halfords is over £130. Have a search on line as I imagine there is one not very far away, they often open on Sundays. It appears to have plenty of power and have had no starting problems. Shotrock
  15. A coupe of minutes seems about right to me. I have had a couple of cars with heated screens and they are not instant, so no need to worry. SHOTROCK
  16. Have to agree take it back asap. If you need a land rover specialist there are a few in you area. Bishopdale motors on Richmond Trading estate, Charley Bennison in Darlington, JSW Trading in Northallerton. SHOTROCK
  17. I had the sme problem a few weeks ago at woodall Services on the M1. Called the RAC who said my battery was knackered, so he got me started and I made my way home. Next day a trip to euro car parts and £100 later a new battery was fitted. All appeared well until the next day and again failed to start. Another call to the RAC who checked the battery, fuses etc. He then crawled under the landy and found the fault. The earth to the chassis was loose. Once cleaned and tightened all was well except for the £100 wasted on a new battery which was fine. So just check the basics. Hope it get sorted SHOTROCK....
  18. Occasionally when changing from1st to 2nd gear there is a bit of a grounching. I am thinking the synchromesh is becoming warn. Is there anything you would recommend to try and reduce the problem. Shotrock
  19. When I last changed the engine I just filled in the log book and sent it off. Came back with a new V5. The DVLA ( also forms part of the police computer system) hold details of all engine, chassis and registration numbers. So if you did register a stolen engine then i'm sure they would inform the police who have the power to examine your vehicle. Anyone with guilty knowledge would never register a stolen engine so why bother with a letter from the garage. Even at MOT they never check the engine number only the chassis. SHOTROCK
  20. Ed, it's being very interesting hearing about your swivel rebuild. I admire everyone that tackles such a thing. But not being very technical or having the tools, I have just had by swivels rebuilt at Durham 4x4. That's new balls, seals, bearings, pins etc. For this paid just short of £200 in labour. Not too bad considering the work.. Shotrock
