  1. I used a plastic film canister (35mm film) pushed through the hole after removing the rubber seal. I used silicone sealer to fix it in place and complete the seal. Anything that gets in there tends to drop to the bottom of the cannister and is therefore easily cleaned out. Philip
  2. Hi Chris, Did you fix this problem??? It occurred to me that another cause could be the relay for the fans. Its the yellow one at the front l/h side of the fuse box (under bonnet) as you look at it from the front. When you get the book symbol up again try swapping it over with another yellow one. I had this problem a while ago......unfortunatly I had to replace the fuse box. Regards Philip
  3. Hi Chris, As soon as mine arrive from the UK I will drop you a message on the price and postage for the O/S unit I will be taking out. Regards Philip
  4. Hello Geoff, I guess you are correct but at the price I managed to get them for, compared to new prices, it pales into insignificance. Philip
  5. Hello Chris, As David suggests change the pollen filters too, they get neglected in servicing and can dramatically affect the climate control system. I found a good source of these from Island 4x4 on Ebay £8.99 per pair + £2.50 pp. Regards Philip
  6. One happy bunny here, I managed to win all three items that were on that Ebay auction so I will have not just a pair of LHD light units but a spare LHD L/H unit as well. If anyone needs a LHD L/H headlight unit with Flasher and bulbs for a P38 please contact me. I will also have for sale a pair of RHD units (no flashers) as well, as soon as these arrive. Message me if any one needs these I am sure we can come to an arrangement. Remember though I am in France so the postage will be a bit heavy. Philip
  7. Hello Spotters, Well I solved the enigma of the missing RRC's they are all here in the Volcanic region of France. On my way into town I saw two one a nicely tricked black one with huge wheels and winch and the other 'stock'. I arrived at the local Bricomarche (diy store) and there were two more in the car park one looking very sad and drooping. On the way home a SII hooted and waved followed 1 min later by a light flashing 110 truck cab. The best bit though was the local Pompiers ( fire fighters) New red TD5 waving as it went by in the opposite direction. The final one was the dark blue 110 Gendarme's vehicle that I am very pleased to say did not wave, flash or hoot at me. Not bad for a 30km round trip in the French mountains. Regards Philip
  8. Damn ...he just replied and wants to let it run......also stated a charge of £33.00 the pair to send to France!!! Just had a pair of Difflocks Wide wheel ramps weighing 26kgs sent for £15. Oh well have to join in the mad scramble at the end I guess....there goes my Saturday night...lol Philip
  9. Hello Chrisst2, Thanks for that on it now trying to get a buy it now from him. Thanks again Philip
  10. Thanks for that John ...Tried them but no luck....also tried Car Canibal in the US no joy there either. What is with these headlight units they seem to be like hens teeth. Regards Philip
  11. Hello All, I am looking for a pair of LHD headlight units for a P38 Range Rover 1999 I need the units to convert a RHD English registered vehicle to French registration and hate the thought of parting with 200GBP+ each for a new part. There appears to be no pattern part supplier for these so L/R have me by the *****. Has anyone got a pair from a wreck or a scrapper? If so would you be prepared to ship to France? Can pay via Paypal. I have tried just about every parts dealer and scrap yard I could find that deals in RR used parts, throughout Europe, and can only find one pair for sale unfortunately they will not ship to France!!! So I thought it time to try you guys over the pond. For clarity. I am looking for a L/h and R/h headlight unit for a 1999 Range Rover P38 in LHD format. Regards Philip
  12. Bishbosh thanks for that if you can find any I am sure the post is not that prohibitive. Yellow thanks for the links had already tried Rangerover Recycling they had a pair but wanted 120 Euros each for them and were an bit vague about postage to France and payment so I continued my search. I also asked about the price for a 200Tdi Defender engine as a spare for my Defender and they quoted me 2500 Euros for an engine of undetermined mileage and again vague about delivery or payment terms so I think I will be giving them a miss at those prices. I have just mailed Jansen today to see if they have any. I am ofc scanning ebay across Europe as well. Found a pair of rhd lights in UK which sold for £50 each which is more the sort of figure I had in mind. I will post on the North American boards tonight. Thank you both Philip
  13. LOL says the man who calls his disco Christine Ahh but the name is a long story and held in high regard in these parts. Philip
  14. Hello, If I were you I would replace the relay and check the wireing at the fuse box. I had a similar problem on Lulu when she had a TD engine in her and it was fixed by replacing the relay/ and reseating the wires. Regards Philip
  15. OPPS Sorry for double post, finger trouble. Philip
  16. Hello All, Before any forum Mod castigates me for posting here I know this should be in the classified section but due to the 20 post rule I cant post there yet. I am looking for a pair of LHD headlight units for a P38 Range Rover 1999 I need the units to convert to French registration and hate the thought of parting with 200GBP+ each for a pattern part. Has anyone got a pair from a converted car or a scrapper?? I have tried just about every parts dealer and scrap yard I could find that deals in RR used parts, throughout Europe, and can only find one pair for sale unfortunately they will not ship to France!!! Also for sale after the conversion 1 PR RHD Headlight units for above. Regards Philip
  17. Hello, Thanks for the help on this. I am bidding on the ebay item (if the guy will post to France.) If not I will buy new fron Paddocks/Craddocks. Regards Philip
  18. Hello all, Quick questions for you... 1) I am sure I read somewhere that there is a mod you can do to the clutch pedal on a 90 to make it not so heavy ( maybe to fit a later type) is this true and if so have any of you done it? What are the parts that are needed? I need to do this as I have a bad left knee that is getting worse and the industrial size spring on my 90 (1990) is taking its toll. At this rate I am going to wear out before Lulu does. 2) Does anyone one know a good source of Copper-Slip that would mail to me here in France. I see copper grease advertised and not sure if it is the same? I cant find anything over here. Regards Philip
  19. Thanks Reads90, I guess that for the cost of sending them to France from your part of the world I could by a new set of lamps complete. Maybe I should do that anyway. Regards Philip
  20. Hello, I noticed the other day the rubber pipe from my Plenum chamber to the L/H rocker cover had collapsed under suction. Ok I thought the breather needs cleaning/replacing. Tried to remove the old breather but it broke up inside the tube. I have removed most of the plastic but the base is still in there and is blocked up so that I cant attach the pipe without it collapsing. The car runs ok with the pipe off but somewhere the fuel system will be compensating for it and that can't be good. Any ideas how to remove it without having to take off the rocker cover as I don't have a gasket available. I live in the depths of the mountains in central France so I cant just slip down the road and buy one. Regards Philip
  21. Hello all, For the second time in 6 months some thieving person has taken 1 of my Spot-lamp covers (They were screwed on so did not fall off). It was in the same well known French Supermarket car park as before so I guess, as its only 1 cover, it is someone with a dislike of English number plates i.e. Taking the ****. However, do any of you out there have a spare Wipac 8" lamp cover, the one with Wipac 4x4, on that they want to sell me and post it to me in France? Can send cash via Paypal or through UK bank account. Regards Philip
  22. Hi Dave , Have a look at the technical articles on this forum, loads of good stuff in there to help. The 2.5n/a is virtually the same engine when it comes to maintenance so look at both types of article. Regards Philip
  23. Hi Poacher, I had a 90TD that I ran for 10 years and over 70k miles before I swapped it out for a V8. She had done 155k miles when I removed it and apart from the usual consumables and two timing belts and two head overhauls she ran as good as when I purchased her. Yes they are down on power compared to a 200tdi and yes a lot of people seem to have trouble with them (as i am sure many will tell you here) but they are basically a good engine if you look after them. I changed the oil in her every 3k miles and found she would not burn any at all. Very little smoke on start up and apart from once, when the valve stem seals needed replacing, no smoking at all on a run. Off road she is fine, lots of low end torque and enough power for most situations. On the road 65-70mph is top whack as they do not take kindly to being thrashed, but it will sit there all day. Watch out for heavy breathing from the filler cap and ofc do something about removing the breather from the filer cap to the air filter to avoid replacing the air filter every 5 mins. There are a lot of articles on this forum about the engine and a lot of people Pooh Pooh them as being c**p rubbish etc. but a well looked after one represents good motoring both on and off road. All that aside I would not go back to mine after fitting the V8. Hope this helps a bit. Regards Philip
