  3. Tay 4x4 and Edzell off road club have come together to hold a winch challenge in memory of Andrew Guinan in the hills of Angus at Glen Trusta, it’s a great sitewith forest, and bogs. It will be a two day event and single vehicle entry and will be held on the 14th and 15th of May, unfortunately it has to be in May as the glen will be getting game birds put down in the end of June and we can’t get on to the site once the bird have been put down. The minimum entries are 15 and the maximum is 25. Each vehicle will need the following -A polyester tow rope, or a tow strap rated to 2 tonnes minimum SWL - two shackles stamped with a minimum SWL of 3.25 tonnes and be CE marked - two tree protecting strops, labelled with a minimum rating of 2 tonnes and be CE marked - Winch rope must be rated in excess of the maximum rating of the winch - any loop at the end of the of a synthetic rope must be spliced. - a small spill kit - first aid kit and a fire extinguisher - waffle boards or bridging ladders that can span at least 1m - ground anchors - roll cages - at least one winch - winch blankets ( must weight 1kg dry) for each winch Advisory equipment -snatch block -extra tree strops or winch line extensions The vehicles must comply with the MSA regs for 2011 Entries will need to in to me by the 2nd May. The only restriction that we will have is tyres are limited to 38.5” tall everything else goes i.e. portals, hydro steer, rear steer, etc The driver will need a MSA licence the co driver will not need a licence Helmets will be needed to MSA regs. The cost of the event will be £160 per vehicle included is the membership to EORC, cost are trying to be kept at a minimum any profit will go to the 4x4 response which Andrew was a member of and helped out the NHS in the winter of 2010, by taking supplies to Arbroath Royal Infirmary from Ninewells Hospital. There is camping available at the site and there are plenty of hotels near buy as well, these hotel are all with in 10 – 15mins drive of the site. Hi All, has any one else had there NFU insurance renewal through the post yet... can any one beat an increase of 38% spitting feathers at this moment in time I have a three car policy with them and a 7 year loyalty bonus with an extra 5% discount and they are still quoting £1554.00 for renewal, by the way it was £980 for all three..... do they care..... nope... any one else had problems on renewal.. cheers Andy p.s. Hi All, Ae 4x4 club Scotland are holiding thier annual Ae Forest Challenge 1st and 2nd September 2007, a 2 day event Saturday "Red Routes" None winch event for std vehicles, and Sunday "Hell on Wheels" "Black Routes" :twisted: , Whinch Equiped, both days are for Taxed and Tested and Insured vehicles, You need to be a member of the club to compete and at £30 per year with other events as well, its worth it, the comp normally round the £70 for both days http://www.ae4x4.org.uk/ cheers and see you there.....   11. sounds a good idea, but the problem i had when i did this was, oild from the diff did lubricate the bearings, and the brake disk's and the pads, if you have got a slightly worn hub seal they leak like heck...... so i pulled it all in bits again and put new seals back in, and greased the bearings....... hope this helps Andy
  12. yep clicks away nicely, and spring holds arm in place, and if you mean does the solenoids click when i power the winch on, "yep", I am going to go and try it again to make sure, put c/o driver behind wheel and me opperate from remote lead in front of 90. so i can double check everything is as far as i can see working.! clear as mud now......... many thanks for ideas Andy

  16. Many thanks for that riviting answer, perhaps some one could now who is a grown up with knowledge of this problem help, the new brake components were fitted by a grown up, in fact two grown up's, could it be another fault, ? thats why i have asked a serious question. cheers Andy
  17. Hi all, hope you are all well in LR4x4 world. Is it me being a bit thick or is it my 8274 thats not working correctely, if i am winching up a hill and stop on the winch, when i let go of the winch in trigger the winch winds out,? does that make sence,?. should it do this or not, i have had a new set of brake shoes on the winch and assoiciated bits, but it still unwinds. any one got any ideas,? cheers Andy
