  1. Checked the timing last night, and its spot on, so moved onto valve clearance and two were tight when they should've been loose. Reset gaps and runs fine now
  2. No idea tbh. Got a mate over tomorrow who is going to take head off and check head gasket. He will also check timing and reset gaps.
  3. Ive just had the cambelt changed on my 300TDi and while it was being done the front thrust washer on the cam was renewed as the cam had moved out 5mm. The rocker assembly was also removed to look down the pushrod tubes. On picking the vehicle up the mechanic said about it being very lumpy on tickover, but as the engine was now warm tickover was fairly smooth. The next morning it felt like it was ticking over on 3 cylinders till warm and when accelerating was chucking white smoke out the back. Once warm no smoke. The vehicle has now done over 200 miles since the belt change. Prior to belt change the engine ran sweetly from start up. Does anyone know whats gone wrong?
  4. Thanks Chris, looks like I need to find someone local who is breaking a Discovery, and grab all the bits from them. I have considered adding the windows that go with these seats, it would mean that the dog/luggage area stays secure too.
  5. What do I need to fit a standard seat in the back of my 300TDi commercial? I dont mean the single jump seat, I mean the row behind the drivers seat. My front seats tilt forward so access is no problem, and the dog gaurd is easily removable, so what else is there? I guess its seat anchor points and seatbelts, but is there anything else?
  6. Is that the Elan valley area? Nice up there. Did the byway from Rhyader on road tyres without a problem (the rock step was "interesting"!) My missus liked the views, but doesnt really get the whole greenlaning thing. She was brought up on a farm in mid-Wales, driving around in a s3, so it just gives her bad flashbacks!!!!
  7. Not towing with it, helper bags were on it when I bought it. Ive fitted new ujs but not a new slider as I didnt know you could replace it.
  8. My 300TDi has been converted to 200TDi rear prop, with a 200TDi prop and diff (due to problems with the doughnut system), it rides on standard springs with helper bags on the rear. SInce the convertion its killed the UJ's on two props and now the sliding joing has gone. I have been using good used parts, so maybe thats the reason, but why is it eating props? Mileage is less than 10k/year, with the majority being on tarmac. Is this simply a case of fitting a new prop and treating it as a consumable item? Has anyone else had this problem?
  9. Are the part numbers the same for the 300TDi and 3.5 V8 engine sump plug washers? I have a few v8 ones (and no v8 anymore!) but need one for my TDi
  10. Thanks, shouldve said it was for a Discovery
  11. This is the part that goes from the fuel filler hard pipe to the tank, its about 12" long.
  12. I find it amazing that until recently objections could be made by email, now they have to be made by post, whilst contractors tenders can only be made by email!! Having fought long and hard with SCC over their abuse of the byway network and the TRO, their failure to maintain, take action against those who abuse the byways and their total ignorance of "Making best of Byways" (a document they helped write) I feel they will do as they please and everyone using four wheeled vehicles can go to hell. Any work they do to the Gibbet, will decimate it and turn it into a road you can drive in a Noble, its what theyve done to the byways on the Downs. This is the reason its really being TRO'd, it will ensure it doesnt become a cut-through for Hindehead residents. This byway has always cost you paint, and often body damage, but you knew that (as youve walked it first) and you never left the byway because it was "too hard" or "would damage your vehicle" if thats the case, then dont drive it.
  13. Horah for a search engine that works!!!!! This is my problem, described to a T. I will try removing the plastic below the screen (and behind the bonnet) in the vague hope that I can get to the problem area. Pity its raining so hard at the moment though!!!!
  14. Vehicle insurance is legalised theft. People who make claims for injuries they supposably suffered have pushed premiums through the roof. Ive got a few cars, including an Impreza, so know all about high prices
  15. I dont think its the best transition there's been, but does it really matter? Not in the big scheme of things. There are many, many Land Rover forums and we all make the choice about which we use (much like tv channels). And so to the winge about LRA.........I dont like the sign in for it, why it needs to be my email addy and not user name is beyond me. My profile also asked way too many questions, which screamed magazine marketing. But what would I know? Im new here
  16. Im amazed no one has noticed, but all the recent TRO's requested by Surrey, including those they managed to get through, are for 4 wheels only, NOT bikes. Surrey has worked out a new method of attack in its anti vehicle war, and thats to split the camp. Firstly remove four wheeled users, then later on when there are no four wheeled users left, ban the two wheeled users. Stopping bikes is much harder than vehicles, Surrey has to leave access gaps for horses and biccyles, so motorcycles cant really be restricted easily. It should be pointed out that this will make little if any difference to illegal users and those who abuse our ancient rights of way.
  17. Cant wait to see this company up and running. David always provided a brilliant service and top prices only surpassed by his stunning encyclopedic knowledge of Land Rover parts from the very earliest to the newest.
  18. Byway 514 London Lane, Shere. Level 3, seasonal from 30 Sept till 1 May. Vehicles causing ruts and wallows. Byway 511 Ponds Lane, Shere/Albury. Level 3, seasonal from 30 Sept till 1 May. Vehicles causing ruts. Counil to repair when it has the money and hens teeth are found in vast amounts. Surrey likes to imply its very pro-vehicle but history has shown it to be one of the most anti-vehicular councils in the country. Both these TRO's are for 4 wheels only, NOT, I repeat, NOT motorcycles. The council has a DUTY to maintain its Right of Ways, failure to do so can NOT be used as good reason to TRO them. A recent TRO on Beggars Lane has shown the lies this council makes. It has repaired the byway, the reason given for the TRO was vehiclular damage NOT rain, yet the resufacing is being cut up by the little rain weve had, and the smooth surface has led to high speeds from the trail bikes. Those who have driven this byway in the past know how technical it was on the decent/climb. I did it in front wheel drive only, road tyres, whilst carrying out work on it!!!! Please object by emailing hannah.gutteridge@surreycc.gov.uk Closing date 3rd May 2011 I should add that these two make the number of TRO applications from Surrey in the last year five, yes FIVE.
  19. Any updates on this? Nearly 4 months have passed now. Hows David doing? Does anyone have a contact address for him?
  20. Unless you work Saturdays and have to book the time off. Why didnt Sodbury say this instead of the bull**** they came out with?
  21. A friend lives in Cumbria and I cant risk writing up here what he and many locals think of Kankku. The owner doesnt care about the lanes, its a buisness and thats it. Some commercial users put alot back into the lanes, via maintenance etc, but others just give people a taste and let them loose with no proper knowledge. Ive met drivers on my local lanes that think its ok to leave the byways and trash the surrounding woodland, that dont think the laws of the road apply, and dont understand that they are driving an unsurfaced road. As for the one way system, my understanding was that was how the permit system worked, one month its one way, the next month the direction of travel is opposite.
  22. Nothing if youre not a member of any other clubs, Im a SROC and series 2 club member and thats enough Im afraid.
