  2. Don't go on expedition with a conventional tow bar arrangement, it will act like an anchor when off road in soft ground. I went for a Southdown tank guard with recovery eye and a removable tow hitch, kill 2 'bird's' with one stone, giving HD tank guard and high level recovery. I also have a pair of jate rings for bridal strop attachment and an alternative angle if required. The tank guard strengthens the rear end, bolting to the chassis rails and rear cross member. If you have a diff guard you may have to grind off a section of the tank guard to allow vertical clearance in testing conditions. Otherwise you might end up like me with a grinder in a sand storm on your back! John
  3. Welcome to the forum Peter. I too have done desert trips in Oman in a Land Cruiser, where it was evident that Range Rovers were preserved for the tarmac, as none were seen in the sand or scrub. My latest trip to Morocco this year was in a 110 and it was very pleasing to see so many other 200/300tdi 110's is service in very remote locations. I was surprised to see fewer Land Cruisers. I am happy to expedition in either marque. John
  4. Look here - http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=42479 Land Rover sell the sealant or saw some here - http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/sump-gasket-300tdi-sealant-rtvb-p-3804.html John
  5. Merry Christmas to all our members and their families and to our forces on duty around the world! John
  6. Great link Nige one of mine came in at £1100! Tempting. John
  7. Private plates are great Chris, it's the people who drive around with them on their cars you want to worry about Merry Xmas. John
  8. Welcome to the forum James! John
  9. Steve I made one, a bit of 2" box welded to the bottom of the winch tray, with a removable insert (secured by pin) attached to a plate with a Disco long neck towball bolted on. Ideal for launching/recovery of the RIB, which I suspect might be of interest to you. John
  10. Gina is Julia's sister, so any issue with this is likely to be taken seriously. Gina also did the 2009 Mac4x4 so is very familiar with the sector. Julia was I believe brought up in the Peaks area so there may well be some local pressure. She could well be between 'a rock and the hard place' on this! John
  11. Take a look at the tab on the top of the page marked Funding. There is a paypal link in there. John
  12. Gav Welcome, it's great to see someone of your age getting interested in Land Rovers. Good post and pleasing to see the use of proper English and punctuation rather than text speak which some try on! John
  13. Paul Humphreys, a member here, is the man to contact. He is very helpful and is the local CRAG organiser.
  14. If there is a graphic artist amongst us we could have a series of Christmas cards depicting the funniest scenes, to be sold in packs to raise funds. John
  15. Contact Bog Monster on here, he lives in The Falklands, so will be up to speed on what works best there. John
  16. I have one of these - http://www.improducts.co.uk/products/lighting/frensch_led_work_light/ Worked brilliantly under the awning in Morocco with good depth penetration and spread for width. Not cheap but worth it. You will have to ring IMP for a price! I recall it was well over £100! John
  17. There is a Breckland Land Rover club, might be worth joining for knowledge of routes etc. We don't post routes on the forum, however someone may be prepared to PM you with their favourites. John
  18. My wolf wheels have 255/85/16 BFG MT's. This set-up gives extra ground clearance, wheel diameter is c33" I believe this is as wide a tyre safely recommended for wolf rims. However you take the risk of not while on expedition in remote locations being able to find a 255/85/16 tyre should you shred one or two. On my recent Morocco trip I took a second spare. Next time I will not as the tyres held up brilliantly despite some very hard rocky tracks near the Algerian border. South beyond Morocco I would travel as light as possible using standard items that can easily be sourced locally. Wolf Rims allowed of course. John
  19. Fridge, perhaps you should call it the Portsmouth - Le Mans Land Rover Run aka Brighton, thus avoiding the O/T label! Unless of course you are considering entering your 109! Perhaps that's where Nige is heading with his new engine set-up. John
  20. Have you started reducing the aerial length? It is the usual practice to cut small pieces off it (the straight length) until you have the required reading on the SWR. Only 2-3mm at a time though! Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will be along here to advise further. John
  21. Try contacting Paul Humphreys a member here on this forum, he is a member of CRAG and a local representative for that area. He is very helpful and will advise you. John
  22. Lara in your case perhaps a laxative might help John
  23. Go to Nick's he lives there! Nick - it will probably slide off into oblivion. - Or some forum big cheese will speed it's exit for being OT John
