Thanks to all, it turned out to be a split turbo hose, replaced by a friend it took about 15 mins. going well again now. It is a 02 td4 freelander by the way.

Coming home with the caravan on the back yesterday when the power fell away and a lot of black smoke apeared, got home ok but without the van on the back still not much power, it starts and runs well on tick over but has not got much go, any ideas anyone.

I too have just bought a td4 of the 52 vintage, well pleased at the moment, pulls the caravan very well, time will tell if its a good one or not but cannot be worse than my previous omega which cost me a fortune every year, glad thats gone.
