  1. I'm looking at replacing my works van with a Disco 3 or more likely 4 commercial. Has anybody owned or used either? I'm after opinions about it's practicality in daily commercial use. Defender isn't really an option due to the amount of motorway miles I do so I've been looking at the Disco commercials. Mainly after realworld fuel consumption, how useful is the loadspace etc. and does the trim survive commercial use? As in the boot door trim etc. or does it get rough pretty quickly? Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks
  2. Thanks a lot for the pictures. Looks really straightforward. I'll get it done in the next batch of work I'm doing on it. Cheers
  3. Thanks for the replies, sutty, I was thinking exactly that after looking at the link mocha put up. Pictures would be great, thanks. Cheers
  4. I've seen a few side exit exhausts in pictures on here. Can someone recommend a supplier? It's for a 300td, just the back section losing the silencer would be ok. Thanks
  5. I second the above. Having owned both 3 door and 5 door 5 seat discos, the 5 door is just much more passenger friendly. The seats in the 3 door really don't leave a lot of room to get in folded forward. Also for those times you need to move something big with the rear seats folded flat, the 3 door is a pain in the a@@e to load. Those rear doors on the 5 door make it so much easier.
  6. Right, so is that +11mm over standard disco rims? Thanks
  7. So.... The outside edge of the wheel is going to end up in almost the same place using wolf rims as the standard disco rims sit, give or take a mil or so. Thats good for me. Thanks for helping me get my head round this.
  8. Excellent, thanks for the replies. So they are greater offset than the standard steel rims then? As in the wheels sit further "out" on the axle. So, and I'm completely guessing here, they are probably a little wider than the standard disco steels or alloys. Anyone know? Basically I'm looking at putting a set on my disco but don't want the offset of steel modulars but I do want the same or a bit more than than the standard disco rims. Thanks EDIT edited to answer my own question. After some more research, disco steel rims are 33 offset so if I've got my head around this offset thing the wolf rims should have a slightly wider track. Can an adult confirm this for me please. Thanks
  9. As the title says, does anybody know the offset for genuine wolf rims? I've searched on here and online, here turned up one thread but no answer and a general web search gave me a lot of differing answers. Surely they are all the same? No? Thanks
  10. Better late than never. A belated happy xmas to you all and have a great new year tomorrow.
  11. I've found some really good deals on Fox 2.0 emulsion shocks, mounting issues aside, has anyone used them or had any experience with them? I'm talking about the non-remote res version. The 10" travel model works out around the same open and closed lengths as most more common +5" shocks, with mounting taken into consideration. On paper at least it seems like a great option. I've tried searching this forum and the net in general but can't find much LR related information. Any thoughts welcomed. Thanks
  12. Dare I say it, how about a paj or imported challenger (row shogun sport)
  13. Forget my last post, I'm getting the disco back tomorrow so I can do it myself. Very happy!
  14. As the title says. Can anyone with a disco 1 commercial or access to one measure the loadspace for me? Length back door to bulkhead, height and width. Mines in the garage getting it's head sorted, but I really need to know the loadspace size rather urgently. Thanks
  15. Check the alternator. I had the exact same symptoms on my old V8 disco. Earths were all good, cleaned them all up and renewed the main earth strap. Made it go away for a week or two, then whilst driving at night on country lanes every time I switched to full beam and back to dip the speedo and rev counter shot down then back up. I stopped and got a multimeter across the battery and the alt was doing nothing, being efi it cut out soon after. Got a new alternator, fitted it and everything was back to normal. If you do need an alt check ebay, several sellers supply genuine and lucas ones at a fraction of the dealers price. HTH
  16. I found Adrian Flux to be the cheapest. I'm 34, 8 years ncd, 6 points , under £500 and thats a commercial use policy with unlimited mileage. My old modded disco was similar cost with all mods listed. Current disco is standard. Also the breakdown cover is cheap and really good. I've used them several times , always arrive quickly and either got me going or home. Even this week got me home then the next day took my disco 30 miles to the garage for me for free! Best breakdown service I'd used.
  17. I know! It'll be alright in the end. If it just worked it wouldn't be a landie now would it!
  18. As tempting as it is to do it myself, I really need it back on the road asap, so don't really think this the time for a first attempt at work like this, or the weather! Cheers for the number Deano, I'll give him a call on monday. Thanks
  19. Hi All, My head gasket has just failed in a most spectacular fashion, 300tdi, water firing a few foot out the header tank! Now as I'm new to the area I don't know of any good garages in the cambridge area. Can anyone suggest a good reliable one that'd be up to sorting this for me? I'm readying myself for the worst, a new head, but I have to get it done asap. Thanks for any suggestions.
  20. Thanks for the responses. I'll give MID a call. With this current weather you can understand why I want it back on the road! @Tetsu0san Mines not black, although it is the green that looks black in certain light, and it's not on a through road so I doubt it's mine you see. I think I know the one you mean. On the main road through Drayton? I'm just off Drayton Road on the very edge of bingdon. If you could pm me the contact details for the two you mention I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks for all the help. Dom
  21. Very sorry to hear about your leg, hope it mends well and swiftly. In response to your question, check with your insurance company etc. I smashed my ankle very badly years ago and spent over a year with various braces, plaster etc. etc. I actually broke it three days before my first driving test. I couldn't find an instructor that would take me on till it was totally healed, apparently due to insurance as I wasn't officially "disabled". I wouldn't want you to find out your uninsured the hard way. This was over ten years ago and obviously I was a learner so that might have had something to do with it. But you know what insurance companies are like for finding reasons not to pay! Good luck and best wishes Dom
  22. Happy new year all, Been a while since I've been round these parts. My 3.9V8i has been sat on the drive for over a year now due to work taking over my life! It still starts everytime etc. But it's running pretty rough now after being stood so long. Can anyone recommend a decent LR mechanic in oxfordshire? My disco is in Abingdon at the moment. I'm looking to get it running smoothly again and get an MOT on it. I'm in no huge hurry so it could be a "quiet time" project for someone. I only know of frogs island in this area and they are a little pricey for me. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thanks Dom
  23. Firstly sorry for a delay in responding, dreaded work! The issues with the engine are it’s slowly starting to use oil, it is increasing over time at quite a rate, also developing some nasty noises from the rockers, loud metallic ticks and clicks. It’s also running hotter, but not overheating, and starting to use more fuel. And finally what I think is a spider issue but maybe relevant is it randomly stalls/turns off after being started, hot or cold makes no difference. It’s had regular oil changes and services, but is sounding rougher as time progresses. It’s also down on power and starting to use more fuel. My thinking behind the rebuild route is I’m getting a new gearbox anyway and thought whilst I was at it I would make sure the engine etc. was running sweetly and to find out what’s exactly wrong is going to need some stripping down anyway. I’m not rich by any means so £7000 etc. is simply not going to happen. But I am willing to spend a reasonable amount on it, as it’s not let me down over 40K miles in 18 months. So it seems I need to pin down what is wrong and is it worth rebuilding. I am tempted by the idea of finding an old disco or range rover cheap to use as a donor. Could be a lot better route. I do miss my range rover seats too. Nige- I’m mainly based in Brighton, but I travel a lot! Would really appreciate you having a look and a chat if I’m your way at a time that suits you. Thanks for all the replies, very helpful. I'll have a read through the over threads too, see what I'm getting myself into. Dom
  24. Good morning all, I'm looking to get the engine in my 96 3.9V8i disco rebuilt. I have neither the time nor workshop to do it myself, well if I want it done in the next year! So I'm looking for a specialist to carry out the work for me. Anybody got any suggestions in and around sussex? I would travel if there is somebody VERY good I should use. Also I've never had a V8 rebuilt before, what's the average ballpark cost I should be expecting (just a rough idea, I'm aware it can vary a lot)? Thanks Dom
