  1. Cheers for the replies chaps....Unfortunately ive only got a stick welder at home ive got mig at work but cant use it on my disco.......im sure even with small rods itd just blow holes through any repair sections i bought
  2. Hello all So MOT time is just 2 weeks away and close inspection of my old 300tdi i have found a fist size hole in the rear off side wheel arch right in the top and there a square bit of structural box section on show....Obviously this looks carp and being so close to the seat belt mount its bound to fail, what do i do????....Itd be a pig to try and weld up in there any suggestions?.......Help!!!!!!!
  3. Soaked them all in WD40 over night and when i put the right spanner on them 9/16th NOT 14mm managed to get them all out....Doh
  4. Hello all So im in the process of trying to remove my front prop, as the U/J is badly worn...So i had a nose under there and managed to remove 3 of the nuts but the rest look like they have been on there for ever and no amount of spannering will shift them, Now if i cut the front bolts of with a grinder they can be replaced easy enough but the transfer box end the bolts are captive in the flange, 2 of these bolts are rounded off and need replacing but how do i get new ones through the back of the flange to go through the prop??.....Help
  5. Cheers for that Old Hand......Such a relief to find its just a UJ gone and not terminal gearbox failure...So was it the 2inch lift kit that knackered it im thinking,,,,I shall get the prop off tomorrow and sort the UJ at the weekend..
  6. Howdy everyone So ive just looked under the disco to see whats been making the grindy scraping noises and its the universal joint from the transfer box given up and flapping around, is it worth taking off the propshaft completely until i can get a new one sorted out this week? Any ideas people?
  7. Just to say my own 300Tdi disco has this fault.. Turn it off go shop/garage etc then back in and turn the key and NOTHING..just a click from somewhere in the passenger footwell..When it 1st did it i called the RAC out but then after 5 mins sat there waiting it just started up on the key as per normal. I even changed the starter motor and various relays but itll still do it when your least expecting it, I can only assume its something to do with the immobiliser/green box in the foorwell but no one seems to know what. Just another one of those landrover things i guess
  8. Hello All So my disco had its 6 monthly oil and filter change at the weekend....Seems abit livelier now so this weekend its the Gearbox/Transfer box oils to changed....Ive read abit on here about MTF94 in the main box but was wondering about squeezing in a tube of Molyslip aswell. I used to know a bloke with a TD4 freelander who swore but the stuff in his gearbox...Has anyone else tried Moly in a disco box and does it help...Bearing in mind my old P reg is coming up for 200,000miles soon and anything to help keep her running smoothly must be worth a thought Cheers Scott
  9. Howdy all. Back on here to share my findings......My 300tdi Disco has been moded and with the usual Safari snorkel with air scoop...Now since this has been fitted its always faced backwards to avoid carp/rain etc going down the pipe but this past week ive run it facing forwards to see if it had any effect on perfornance...It did, my fuel consumption has gone from a pleasant 29mpg to and from work etc to 24mpg...and the only thing different was the snorkel top being turned to face forward..Odd dont you think Oh and a P.S the truck has still got the Canary under the bonnet but its begining to fade now thank God lol
  10. Did my water pump and P gasket last weekend...Cleaned the face on the block and stuck the gasket one with Blue Hylomar ...Mounted the water pump housing quickly then inserted a new long bolt through the housing/P gasket and refitted housing bolts/water pump etc no leaks at all....quite an easy job really....Letf it all over night to settle before refilling the coolant and been fine since
  11. I only get the squeal when its being driven under load, around 1200/1500 rpm then it fades as i get to changing gear at around 2000rpm....so on tickover i cant get it to make the noise...But thanks for the help
  12. Cheers for the help everyone...My next plan was going to be the PAS pump as its alot cheaper than a new alternator.....If its something about to let go id rather it just got on with it so i knew what to replace!!...although i will add ive just had a short trip out in it and gave it a damn good thrashing up the long hill back to our village, nearly 3000rpm and driving up our road there was silence...but im sure my 5am trip to work tomorrow wont be so quiet...
  13. Thanks for the reply....Dont have air con on my disco so its just the one main belt round the tensioner/water pump/alternator/PAS pump etc....ive just put on a new Dayco genuine belt and although its quieter its still there, so thats 3 belts its had a new main tensioner plus water pump......might try and clean the pulleys with electric spray cleaner and a wire brush. It just seems really odd that after nearly 2 years of owning the old girl its just started happening and i put a new main belt on the 1st week i bought it with no issues....im perplexed but do appreciate peoples thoughts on this. scott
  14. Thanks for both the replies...Not sure what to try next, My local Landrover specialist swears itll be either the tensioner or the belt. so i will have to see how it behaves with the Dayco belt fitted...Not yet prepared to spend £100 on a new alternator .......This appears to be a common problem with 300Tdi but no one seems to have the definative answer,,,
  15. Hello All So i shall begin, My modified 300tdi disco has developed the Canary under the bonnet syndrome...Ive searched loads of forums for pointers on this and still its squeels Its started last weekend on a simple drive to town and my 1st thoughts were aux belt needs replacing, well ive now changed the belt, bought a new tensioner and still its there, so i decided to change the water pump/P gasket etc hoping it was that..that job was finished this morning and STILL the canary chirps away under my bonnet...ive even tried the Penny trick to no avail.....And yes its only squeeling under load same as ususal....Any ideas would be greatfully recieved...Oh the next move is fit a genuine DAYCO belt as the new one i fitted was from Gates...
  16. My own 300tdi passed its MOT 2 weeks ago, the 1st one ive put it through since buying it last year, always a happy feeling when the spotty teenager whos spent half an hour poking it with a pry bar says passed no advisories....
  17. Ive just bought some 4inch rectangular ones off Amazon to go on the back of the disco above the rear door...they were £16
  18. Hello all....New to the forum but not the world of landrover. Im now on my 3rd disco and wanted some advice on its recent starting problems...It all began last year when my normal morning trip to work was interrupted when i stopped at the garage after maybe 5 miles only to have the truck refuse to start when i turned the key.all i got was a clicking sound in the passenger foorwell..suspecting the starter solenoid i rang the breakdown service only to have it start fine 5 mins later as i sat there waiting?? i fitted a recon starter and remade the 12volt feed wire as it was looking abit tired and it was fine for maybe 2 months, but then it same fault returned so i bit the bullet blamed the recon starter and bought a new bosch..remade various earths off the ignition and starter and it seemed fine....but then at the weekend the same thing happened, switch off the truck, get back in and nothing but a clicking in the footwell then after leaving it for 5 mins it would start fine???? now at this point im totally confused...but then closer inspection in the footwell behind the plastic kick panel i noticed that the foam insulation above the relays and ECU/immobilisor is soaking wet and dripping water everwhere....ive since removed the wet foam and hung all the relays etc by the heater motor out the way and so far so good....has anyone else had problems like this or any advice on it??? Cheers Scott
