  1. Buy mine its an 03 td4 84k on the clock lots of extra's £3250 ??
  2. I have a 2003 TD4 kalahari, 84k on the clock green in colour, alloys, air con, leather interior, 6 CD changer, tow bar ( only used once ) FSH just had 2 new tyres on the front @ £250, yours for £3250 ?
  3. we have a 2003 td4 ( 83k on the clock ) and if i was to be totally honest if i knew then what i know now i would steer well clear !! Since we have had ours its had x2 rear window mechanism's ( both went within in 10 minutes of each other ! ) Its needed a complete sunroof including motor ( at a cost of over £700 paid by the dealer we bought it from thank god !! ) and after the new one being in situ for 3 months the mechanism on that one is going rusty !! even with a liberal coat of PTFE spray and grease Its needed a new handle on the back door as the old one pulled off in the wifes hands ! AND THAT WAS ALL IN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS !! I know all cars have their problems but the build quality and quality in general if im honest leaves alot to be desired considering its a Land Rover, not to mention things like the IRD if that goes wrong its a pain in the arse, having to change both tyres on the same axle at the same time is exspensive ( we have to do the front 2 and have been qouted £205 and thats the cheapest ) servicing even if you do it yourself isnt cheap ( fully synthetic oil ! ) and ontop of that if the crank case breather filter hasnt been changed again if there is any damage its gonna be costly to change the turbo. On the MPG side of things i havent done any sums but on a full tank of diesel we can only get around 450 miles at a push, not to mention the air con/heater is pants ( common on all LR as far as i know ) I had a 10 year history with MOD series 3 and land rover wolf's and i would rate one of those over a freelander any day, i would prefer a 90 or 110 any day of the week, not as luxurious by any means but far less problemmatic. If anyone offered me £3500 for my car i would snap their hand off and go and buy a diesel family estate ( volvo v40 ) Im in no doubt there are many of you that love their freelanders but in the short time we have had ours and have had to sort out so many problems i would be glad to see the back of it !
  4. After close inspection of the runners these too seem to be on their way to collecting a very nice coat of rust, even after liberal coats of wd40 and teflon grease ! does anyone want to buy a freelander ?? lol
  5. Happy new year all. After driving the wretched freelander the other night i noticed the sun roof appears to have a weak spot ?? whilst in the drivers seat looking up at the sunroof at the front edge slap bang in the middle is what looks like a small felt strip which was soaking wet ? what puzzles me is its had a brand new sun roof, mechanism, glass, even motor, is this a common problem with these cars ?? when the old sun roof was replaced the whole mechanism was very rusty indeed ? Is it me being too picky about this car or is this kind of thing you just have to expect ? Any thoughts ?
  6. looking back through my service history it says the fuel filter has been done a few times ! mmmmmmmm i am wondering if that is actually the case ?? but i read on here when you do the fuel filter to get an original one as the pattern part is a nightmare to fit ? but if you do have any tips i would be extremely grateful
  7. Very as i found out last week. I chose a dry day and got on with the job of trying to drop the under tray, emphasis the word try !! after trying and failling to loosen off bolts to free the under tray which looked like it had never been off I had to resort to cutting a access panel under the sum plug ( which i zipped tied back on ready for next time ). Then came the job of releasing the sump plug, after various spanners and sockets and using a hammer to persuade the sump plug out i managed to get on with the job of changing the oil. So to date, i have managed to change, oil and filter, air, crank case, turbo and cabin filter, just gear box oil and top up both diffs then hopefully trouble free motoring. Just makes me wonder how genuine the service history is ? at least by doing it myself i know its done properly
  8. Does anyone use these ? or do your freelanders run bog standard ? these things CLAIM upto 12mpg more ? more torque more power ? or is it best to leave things alone ?
  9. I did think that my self reference all the crud out of the bottom of the engine, in regards to the oil i have looked in the car handbook and they ( land rover ) recomend 10w-15w/40 ACEA A3-B3 which i have found to be semi synth ( in most cases ), I then rang my local Land Rover dealer to which he told me their mechanics use 5w/30 semi ( Conway land Rover ). On the subject of oil, i was thinking ahead ref Gear/Transfer box oil and front and rear diff oil as these are the things i would change on military Land Rovers, the dealer told me they (diff) are sealed units which can only be topped up ? seems a bit stupid as the car is permanant 4x4. Can any anyone shed any light in relation to locatons of filler/drain plugs and oils needed ? Thank you for all your help so far
  10. i have fitted a new cabin filter, air filter, turbo breather filter and am waiting for a set of torx sockets through the post before i can fit the crank case breather then i just need to change the oil then its job done till spring, im looking at using halfords semi synthetic oil @ £20 for 5 liters, after reading the night mares about the under tray i am considering a oil suction pump to suck the oil out, lazy i know but alot less hassle
  11. sounds like a rite result ! we bought an 03 td4 3 months ago and have had nothing but problems, 1x complete sunroof with motor ! 2x rear window regulators that went in 10 minutes of each other, a hole under the tailgate handle which had rusted completely through and a new door handle to go with it ! and have had to fight tooth n nail to get the dealer to sort/pay for any of the above ! the sunroof was fixed before we picked it up, then it leaked so had to go back at our travelling expense ! then the regulators went, the dealer would only pay half, the hole in the rear door above the number plate he tried to put down to wear and tear to which we argued and then the door handle to which again we had to fight tooth n nail to get any money towards ! what annoyed us the most was the car was advertised as in excellent condition and was far from it ! then they tried to say we had abused the car !! doing the school run !! and within 3 months !! you definitely have had a far better experience with a car trader than us, from now on i will definatly go over any new car with a fine tooth comb !
  12. Interesting reading, normally i stick to regular servicing, and fuel tank treatments. As this is my first landrover ( 03 td4 kalahari )we need to ensure its running as well as it can, i have had plenty of experience with army land rovers 90 & 110 and they seemed to run for ever but in the 3 months we have had our td4 the list of problems have been unreal, thankfuly nothing mechanical so far ! but after a complete sunroof including motor, 2 window regulators, a new rear door handle and filling in rusted holes in the tail gate i want to try and minimise any further problems if at all possible
  13. After watching the genius that is edd china on wheeler dealers i was interested in the process of engine decarbonizing ( he did it on a jag with massive improvements to the emissions ) from a company called terraclean. Just wondering if any of you guys have come across it or used it ?
