  1. Hello, I'm crazy late getting to this post but (over a year later) I'm wondering how you got on with the VNT.
  2. I'm sorry, I hate to be argumentative but if that's true, why don't you do it?? Get some made, sell them to the rest of us and pocket the profit?? And I hate to say it but pound for pound, Land Rovers are NOT good value compared to other makes when you consider what you get. For the same money, leaky windows, seriously noisy under powered engines and 55mph top speeds would be completely unacceptable (save maybe classic Jeeps). You don't build/drive Land Rovers because of their frugallity...you build/drive them because they're Land Rovers and that's what you want!
  3. This is EXACTLY what I did wrong. I originally bought a blue 88" truck cab leafer with a V8 and capstan winch...I ended up with a green hard top coiler on a galv'd 90 chassis with a 200Tdi and electric drum winch. I only used about 1% of the original vehicle and bought and sold tons of carp before I had a finished vehicle... Just sit down, make a list of everything you think you want it to be, look like and/or do and go from there (this list WILL grow as you go). Then make another list of how much you think it will cost and how long you think it will take. Then multiply those numbers by 2 at a minimum...more likely 3 or 4 if you want something really nice. I'm not trying to scare you away...this is just how it is if you want to make your own truck. There is HUGE satisfaction though, driving down the road knowing you'll never see youself coming the other way! Good luck!
  4. Land Rovers are among the most expensive 4x4's in the world! But in my opinion, no other after market wheel looks better on a Landy than they do! I openly admit to being a little biased though....
  5. The new ones are virtally identical to the old ones save for a lip around the outter rim. From a distance you can't tell the difference.
  6. Awesome guys (and girls?). Thanks for your help. I was amazed at how much it fluctuates and how fast! It's one of those gauges that I'll spend all my time looking at instead of watching where I'm going...haha! Do any of you run a boost gauge? Should there be boost while cruising? I'm running a VNT from Allard's. I didn't know the turbo would be working all the time but while crusing at 60mph it shows about 6psi. When you hit the gas it jumps up to 12psi or so. When you let off the gas it drops to zero. Is this normal? I hope so because I don't know what the hell I'll do about it if it isn't! I sent Allard's an email about a week ago but they haven't replied yet. Thanks again.
  7. Hello, I've just got my little project (more money than sense) on the road. Today I had the pleasure of driving it about 11mi to a metal fab shop to have the hard top modified. This was the third time I've driven it and this time I really watched the gauges...the EGT gauge in particular. I'm running an EGT gauge with the sensor mounted right at the inlet of the turbine of the turbo. Normal cruising sees around 650F but under load the temp spikes up to nearly 1000F. I know EGT is a great way to monitor how the engine's running but I don't know what the range should be. Anyone have any ideas?
  8. You could also do like I did and buy standard silicon bends (90's, 45's, 120's, etc...) and use ali pipe to connect them. It's not the most "budget" way to do it but it turns out looking very nice and should last a long time. I suppose you could save some quid and find rubber bends and use steel pipe. Since you're only using short angle pieces it should be relatively easy to find replacements in the future.
  9. Mine has the LR logo on it too. So I tested my glow plugs. All four of them are broken!! I shorted them straight across the battery terminals and nothing happened. I don't know if this is the cause of the glow light staying on but it certainly isn't helping anything. I've got four new ones coming and I'll try again when I get them installed.
  10. Awesome! I'll double check what I have. Terminal #4 is for "white to any white in vehicle harness"...I'm not using a standard Land Rover harness. What are the whites in the vehicle harness?
  11. Hello, I tried to do a search but came up empty handed so now I come to you. I'm building a hybrid and it's come to the wiring stage of the build. I'm using a 200Tdi. My questions: 1) Is a 200Tdi timer relay the same as a 300Tdi relay? 2) How long should the glow light stay on when you first turn the key on? 3) I found a wiring schematic for a Disco but I fear I may have put something in the wrong place as my light does not go off at all. Does anyone have a schematic for a Defender? 4) Should there be a wire that goes to some sort of a temp sensor? Thanks for your help.
  12. Does anyone know for certain if/where you can get a passenger side fuel tank for a Defender? I've heard that MOD 110's had auxilary tanks there but am not certain. Thanks.
