The spidertrax/404 axles have aluminium centre sections....

Probably the hull of his model steam ship, 1/5 size.

True, but likely not in a hurry, but equally, I have pretty well sorted axles now as it is.

The real question is, can you afford not to?
Yes, way more than I can afford to.

Current increases as you load it up, meaning more heat, and at the same time you are slowing down the fan which is supposed to be cooling it -just go easy on them they last a long time.

I’d normally agree but the mess and general inconvenience puts me off.

I think the cost was north of £10k when I saw one advertised, may have come down....
However one concern was raised is that by using a laser the surface of the steel is heated causing some oxidation, which you would still have to clean off before welding, ideally, or other processes.
A good sand blast is better, IMHO.

No, my mind immediately went to dropping it off at and engine rebuilders for a quick skim for ~£40.

Yes it has, it's the head that has slight cracks between the inlet and exhaust valves, which im going to have a shot at welding up
Regards Stephen
Having seen this done, the usual route seems to be to remove the seats, weld it up and then re-cut the space for the seats and insert new ones, and then cut to depth.
Or are you just going to drill it out and blast it with AC TIG and hope?

Perhaps.................. I won't say anything more

Has the head been outside for a while? Lot of rust on the value seat inserts.

For clarity, I find red stuff just bites a fair bit better with less pedal effort, with slightly better pedal feel, I'm not certain how the pads could change pedal feel, but they do.

I didn't want to be the first to say it, but you are right.
