  1. If someone has clouted a curb for instance... it could easily do this -would have to be quite hard, granted.
  2. 11mpg on petrol on my Rangie, 10mpg on gas but the price makes it equivalent to around 25mpg.... That's with short journeys (less than 15 miles generally) lots of bolt on silly stuff, mud terrains and carrying too much weight... a Defender would likely be cheaper than that -especially if it's a manual.
  3. It could be that someone has fitted the top section of a safari roof to a standard county roof -I've not seen a safari roof without the vents, I can be wrong occasionally though
  4. Paint and carpet in a 90... I knew you couldn't get away from your posh Range Rover roots Nice work BTW
  5. Pretty sure that figure is without the seal in place -as all figures I have seen. Having done a few now... I tend to do it by feel, not had any problems yet
  6. I'm pretty sure the Rover P6 engines weren't 10.5:1 comp ratio, that was reserved for the earlier P5B vehicles which needed 5 Star fuel (100 Octane ), so don't go pulling apart two engines only to find one is a 9.35 and one an 8.13 and you are no better off... LPG does like a higher compression ratio, I have heard 12:1 in some technical document somewhere, although I can't find it now -but you will break things if you have to run it on petrol...
  7. The standard cooling is pretty good really, what's made you think you need more? Remember these vehicles were designed to work Dubia-like 50C temperatures and not over heat, unless you are doing something really crazy with it (like blocking off the radiator grille ) I'd suspect you'd be OK on stock stuff.
  8. I'd go for a PDA/phone with a 2.8" screen and TomTom... used this setup for years and years now, very flexible, I also have Memory Map (Pocket Nav OS 5) on it which is great for greenlaning.... and as said above.... fits in your pocket when you leave the vehicle.... plus works as a phone. Even better I can charge it to my business as an expense
  9. Large attachments (images) have been opening very slowly for me for over a week now, but actually reading a post is fine.
  10. If you don't mind doing some finishing yourself, you can save some cash by getting the individual bits from Southdown, from Ebay.... *CLICKY*
  11. Thank God for that, thought I was going mad for a minute then
  12. Aren't they just a step up into the cabin? Slay me if I am wrong, but I have never heard of that before....
  13. The engine is pretty unlikely to stop right at the top of a compression stroke tbh, so the points are more than likely going to be closed, but you are right, if they were open it wouldn't be a problem.
  14. www.rswww.com and search for 'Calor Superflex', very very flexible double walled pipe, available in a huge range of sizes, and lengths which should allow you some spare if you needed it in the future...
  15. Well I was only able to spend the Sunday afternoon there unfortunately, which makes the on-the-door ticket price rather insane TBH, I managed to get what I wanted and more, so I am a very happy chap with a new TDS bolted to the front of the Rangie I've only been to one LR show before, mainly because of the distances and only having a Lightweight to go in before, pretty sure it was the 2006 LRO show at the 3 counties showground(think that's what it is called) -the two compared very differently .... the arena at Billing was way too small in my opinion, 3 counties was a really nice size, allowed people to get some speed up and do donuts to wake the crows up, but the trade stands were SOOOOO much better at Billing, not that I got to see as much of it as I would have liked. Echoing what was said above, it felt like it was pretty cramped. Nice to go and see what it was all about, but having now been there I don't think I would go for a whole weekend. Oh, and did anyone try using the map in the show booklet? Flippng useless, why the heck did they decide to list the exhibitors in order of the stand LOCATION(i.e. A1, A2, B1...)...? If you are looking for a particular place it makes it nigh on impossible to find them Anyways, had fun, spent some hard earned, and got back in one piece
  16. When putting 12V through a coil, it is going to heat up over time, without the rest it gets from producing a spark and the airflow from the engine they get too hot to touch pretty damn quickly. Never ever ever leave your ignition in the II position for more than about 5 minutes if the engine isn't running -this sort of thing is not uncommon on the older vehicles at all, newer ones (EFIs etc) switch dont energise the coil initially, so do not suffer the same problem.
  17. Are they from a Santana? (if that's the right name)
  18. The contact page worked for me:
  19. Does sound like a halfway house Fridge, I like it... *edit* Hmm, just realised, I've been registered over a year now, and hit 500 posts in that time
  20. Pretty sure that's just a dust seal -if you are worried about it just stick a bit of tape over it -yes they are fragile, I have cracked one before, therefore I have no spares For taking the arm off next time, try a centre punch right on top of it and whack it gently with a small hammer, it should fall into lots of pieces all at once
  21. Crawl under and check for leaks first -my old Rangie had probably got as bad as this by the end -it was both headgaskets blowing into the crankcase, forcing oil out of the back of the valley gasket. There are lots and lots of possibilities on these engines for leaks... need an idea where it's coming from to give you feedback really... if indeed it is leaking it, and not burning it.
  22. 3 or 4 (out of about 12 or so) separate insurance companies looked at the fact it's a 4x4, that it is modified and specifically asked if I will use it for greenlanes, telling me it won't be covered. I didn't stop to ask any more details (maybe I should have ) as I was getting a bit fed up of being refused even a quotation The only reason I can think is that they see it as increasing the risk of damaging the vehicle and hence a claim.... but you are absolutely right, I didn't think there could be an exclusion for 'green lanes' as they are part of the public ROW network, they did mention that it has all been very much tightened up over the last 5 years with regards to off road vehicles.
  23. Honestly, I'd be happy to know that the forum is comfortable and let the admins/mods/treasurer get on with it, why I should need to know the specifics of what this site costs to run and the bank balance is somewhat beyond my reckoning atm -but then it is still early!
