  1. I painted my black wheelarches about five years ago. I lightly rubbed the wheel arches down and then used 'plastic primer' from Halfords. It comes in an aerosole spray can and one can was enough to do two coats for the four wheel arches. I then painted to match in with the bodywork colour. No problems with the paint finish after five years
  2. I double checked my mpg over a month or so when I was doing a 140 mile return trip each day on french 'a 'roads and keeping within the 59 m.ph speed limit.I kept exact records of all the fuel used and mileage covered and it nearly always worked out at 40.m.p.g. it did drop a couple of times to 38 mpg after I had refilled the tank, but it would go up again when I next refilled,I assume this depended on the quality of the deisel. I always filled up at the same hypermarche filling station to get the cheapest fuel cost. I was surprised at first with the fuel consumption figures, which is why I started keeping precise records .
  3. I,ve got a disco transfer box fitted to my 300tdi 90 plus 7.50 tyres. It makes approx 25% increase in gear ratios, but then I spend a lot of time traveling the french autoroutes at 70-80 mph and get 32 m.pg on these trips at this sort of speed.Provided you start in 1st gear rather than 2nd, starting and accelerating is not a problem, in fact you can hold on to the lower gears for longer.and get better acceleration. On the long, straight, traffic and hold up free french 'A' type roads with a 59 m.p.h speed limit I often get 40 plus m.p.g. (with deisel at about 74.pence a liter) and get there quicker than I would doing the same distance on the m.ways and main roads in this country, where you do 70 for a mile or so then get slowed down to almost walking speed for miles. I also have recenty fitted recon disco axles and recently fitted 110 brake calipers on the front axle.braking does seem to be improved. (the transfer box increase gear ratios by about 12.5 % as do the 7.50 tyres.
  4. Blakes grey metallic primer really does stop rust on clean bare metal,I've used it on mild steel boat fittings which were in salt water for 6 months and there wasn't a trace of rust on them.
