  1. Can anyone tell me if the front brake calipers on a Defender 90 (late 200 Tdi - discs on rear) are the same as on a Disco I. Both non-vented. Its sounds simple, but when I checked on one parts web site they had the same part number, but on two others it was a diferent part number.
  2. Having replaced mine twice and not cured the leak, I found the problem was oil coming up the drive flange threads. Applying instant gasket (silicone type sealant) to the washer before fitting cured the problem.
  3. I hope you get the knock sorted. I am interested in you comment about the engine running away because of diesel in the turbo. I very occaisionally get this problem with my Td5. How does the diesel get into the turbo and how did you resolve the problem?
  4. I think it depends on the model. Some Defenders did not have the 'low fuel' connection on the sender or the third wire into the connector block. I think it may have been standard on CSWs but my basic truck cab has only the two wires even though there is a block for three.
  5. Glad you got your problems sorted Speedy. I've not been so lucky. I've checked everything and can't get rid of my misfire/lack of power. I checked the turbo activator. It seemed free, but I oiled it anyway. The plug on the ECU end of the loom looked OK. I found a small amount of oil where the injector harness plugs into the main loom, so I replaced the harness (I was planning to do it at the next service anyway). The crankshaft speed sensor has been checked. Diagnostic check has shown nothing. I have also had another strange problem on a couple of occaisions which may or may not be connected. When I have accelerated coming of a roundabout there was virtually no response then the engine really picked up fast. It felt like the trottle was wide open for 2 or 3 seconds. Anyone got any ideas?
  6. Had a similar problem with my 200Tdi. As described above I found I could release it by going underneath and tapping the actuating rod with a hammer. When I finally got round to stripping it down I found the rollers in the expander unit didn't look like rollers any more. Too chewed up to use, and had damaged the inside of the casing so needed new unit.
  7. This sounds great. The lights on my 90's dash are so bad I'm sure it gets darker when I turn them on. I replaced all the bulbs because I heard they can get a bit 'silvered up' with age, but it didn't make a lot of diference. Never knew LEDS were available that were a direct replacement. Where can I get them from and how much???
  8. Had a similar problem with my 200 Tdi. After hours of checking switches and tracking wires I found the connector had come loose on the back of the fuse box.
  9. Didn't they fit Rover axles to the later 110 Td5s?
  10. My 200Tdi came with sealed beams. The best thing I ever did was to replace them with Halogen units. I can actually see where I am going now when it gets dark.
  11. In my youger days I did a bit of rallying and always used anti-fade pads, but I've never seen anything advertised for a Defender. What are the 'green' pads discussed above? I use my 110 for towing a 1.5T caravan and they sound like a wise investment. Anyone got details of manufacturer/supplier.
  12. Anyone know what causes my Td5 to squeal badly on cold damp mornings. I tried the usual trick of talcum powder on the drive belt, but it made no diference. I checked out a few other Td5s and most of them were also very noisy. The most constructive suggestion I have had so far is to turn up the radio.
  13. I recently aquired a 110 9 seater. I looked into registering it to avoid the charge. There does not appear to be any cost, but you do need to prove its a 9 seater. The registration document is not enough. The MOT certificate which shows the number of seat belts as 9 or more is acceptable. Unfortunately for me the guy I bought the truck off had removed two seats before the MOT so I cannot use this. I plan to reinstall them before its next MOT so I have the necessary documents. I don't actually plan to drive into London, its more the principal of it.
  14. I'm just South of Eye. Been here just over 4 years.
  15. 200Tdi 90. 130K miles typically 28 -29 mpg for normal driving. Td5 90 CSW. 100K miles typically 30 - 32. Drops to about 26 pulling a 1.3 tonne caravan at legal speeds.
