  1. Stephen - can you be specific about the parts that you need ? I think you will find that you can get most parts from "no name" manufacturers that make the same parts for Ford and many other companies. For instance the drive shaft UJs on a ford transit and a LR defender are one and the same and can be obtained from several different manufacturers. Adam
  2. NO !!! Most definetly NOT !!!! Just an observation from this part of the world that I thought might be interesting and hoped that maybe some one could shed some light. I told my wife after number 2 (9 years ago now) that either number 3 in short order or not at all - don't want to go back to all the complications of young uns all over again just as the older ones are getting easy to handle (relatively easy that is). My next "newborn" is the Defender I am putting together now to work alongside the one already in service - that one is due in a month or so !! Adam
  3. I use alot of off road trailers and have my own one awell. Because I am skint, what with building a new house and all, I bought a second hand heavy duty trailer from the electricity board and am slowly doing it up. 1. Wheels are the same as those on my Defender so now I have lots of spares all round and when I finish using the tyres on the Defender I pass them down to the trailer so economic too. 2. The push/pull is a sprung self brakeing jobbie that operates drum brakes on the trailer. The hook/up is a heavy duty ball joint - there is discussion about the safety of ball joints off road as they can come unhitched (I have yet to have or see a ball joint come unhitched and I do some very serious off roading with my trailer) but on the other hand they do not thump the vehicle everytime there is some movement on the NATO hitch type of set up or similar. 3. I would like to have leaf or coil springs on the trailer with shocks too and one day will make the necessary mods - in the mean time I run extra heavy duty trailing arm type supension (don't know what you guys call them in english). 4. It is important that the trailer is dead level when hitched upto the tow vehicle. 5. I would very much like to have a hydraulic tow point that could rise/drop in order to improve approach and decent angles when negotiating obstacles but that will probably just remain a dream. 6. Loading the trailer is very important. Keep the trailer slightly front heavy so that the back never sits down falcruming the rear wheel of the tow vehicle up. Keep breakables at the front of the trailer as the back bounces around quite alot and some things just cannot travel in a trailer off road at all - vegies, fruit, eggs and or stacked plastic or carton packed stuff like milk cartons, yogurts etc... 7. Check and service tariler bearings often as they work loose/wear faster than standard vehicle bearings - must be all that bouncing. 8. When off roading in the dark I light the trailer up with a rear facing spot so that I can watch the trailer and see what is happening in real time. 9. Trailer lights are always giving up - again because of the bouncing and just to be on the safe side I carry a spare light bar so that I can always get home. 10. The wire conecting the trailer to the vehicle electrics should be a spiral type jobbie (like a house telephone ear piece wire ?). Another good thing to have is a conector that has plugs at both ends - the trailer has a female conector like the car end does and the conector cable has a male on each end - and I carry a spare cable with males at each end (this is so that if the cable gets caught or damaged on a obstacle damage is minimal and easily solved). 11. Last but not least - always lash everything down well and re-check often as lashings work loose and loads compact. Always check the trailer and load when you get to the highway. Adam
  4. Never did get a signature other than those handed out automaticaly - was upto "addict" and well on the way to the next stage, "old hand", and then I pulled that card: "Go directly to jail" and when I got out I was here........ Adam
  5. Sorry - didn't mean to pry. I take it you are suing them and wish you luck - as far as I am aware you certainly deserve to win I suppose the writing has been on the wall over there for almost a year now. I sometimes wish that we had had the balls to have set this up then as a direct retort to the poor behavior towards yourself and others - they certainly deserve what ever they get now. Had it not been for your urging no rash actions we might well have done it back then but it certainly would not have been as clean and organized as this has been. Adam
  6. Now that we are a free people perhaps you can tell us what was behind the going ons that caused your forced departure from the other place - or is this going to have to wait awile too ? Nice to be "allowed" to associate with you again ! Adam
  7. OK own up - who chucked the storks out of europe early this year ?! I live on one of the world's busiest migratory routes and this year the first flock of migrating storks turned up early. We are still trying to find out where the flocks originated from to see if there is good explanation for their early arrival. It could just be the foul weather that europe has been experiencing in the last 10 days or so or it may bode of something that is still comming........ Anyone here know of any unnatural happenings in europe such as crop failure, serious flooding etc.... Adam
  8. And I thought that you were just trying to be clever and get your "newbie" upgraded to something more fitting by double posting Adam
  9. OK - sorted now Had to host it in my photobucket account - I thought this new forum allowed you to host the avatar on the forum site itself but obviously not. Thanks for the replies guys. Adam
  10. I take it that unlike in the old home avatars can be hosted here ? Or do I still have to host somewhere else and then link to here like - picturebucket or what ever ? At the moment when I post my avatar I just get that empty window with a red cross in it. TIA Adam
  11. I second Dave on remaining independent . Added bonus is that the savings on advertizer's graphics makes the forum faster. the main reason I spend less time over at Difflock is the fact that it is SOOOOO SLOW ! . Many members here have also stated that the new format avoids them sticking out like sore thumbs at work which will make the forum more user friendly and more active (I'd hate to be their bosses ) Any sponsor is going to want banners that will spoil this. Now that we have accumulated a large membership, thanks to the old home (all said and done one must be gratefull for some things), we don't need the backing of a sponsor. Adam
  12. You might want to add a stabalizer wheel each side just to make sure that it stays upright !! Seriously though I reckon JST has a good set up there. Adam
  13. Hi Col, re. Middle East Forum - sounds nice but them guys just cannot get on with each other, that is of course presuming that Israel (whish is where I hail from) counts as a ME country. Did you know for example that one cannot e-mail between Israel and most of the other ME countries ? Although the area forums are a nice idea when one looks at the action there then there is painfully little of it re. Africa NA and AUZ forums. IMHO we should perhaps get rid of the area forums - as it is most of the real action even between guys in a given area is on the specific vehicle and or International forum. If one should want a specific arae to pay attention one could always head the post specificaly eg. "FAO Aussies - gjtdug guaystg stusg ?!" Adam
  14. "Mines such a bitsa of series, defender and rangie bits it kind of makes it hard to describe! Certainly theres more of it thats not series 3 than is series 3!" Sounds like a HYBRID then ?! Adam
  15. Hey Admin/Mods Any chance off adding a place in memeber's profile to contain the type and model of the member's vehicle ?! This would make the answers people recieve more accurate/usefull. In the mean time guys, when you post queries please be sure to note what vehicle you refer to. Adam
  16. Doesn't say what age vehicle you are running. The standard Defenders we have here all have a courtesy light overide switch next to the hazard light switch. This switch has three positions: on, off, and on when front doors are open. To add rear door activation just stick in normal car alarm on/off switch and wire it to front doors. Adam
  17. I guess that they were finding it difficult to compete with the competition that the forum generated and felt that the "potential customer" was having his eyes opened by the discussions and buying elsewhere. If running a forum is expensive then the cost/reward approach may be justified but if it is not expensive then surely any income generated by the forum is better than none let alone a negative attitude now held by some of the now ex-potential customers who now hold a grudge and will vote with their money. When some one belittles their competition I generally move on - "sell your advantages - don't present your competition's disadvantages" Old Chinese proverb says "When little man makes long shadow end of his day is nigh" Adam
  18. You could of course register your event as a "member" and list it's birthday and then your "member's" birthday would be your event's date !!! That would of course be cheating but then....... ?!!!! To see what I mean look at the calender now and you will see "addict's innaguration" (ie. this forums innaguration) is 5/08 - albeit 2004 and not 2005 because the calender will not let one enter the year 2005 yet. Better get me coat ?! Adam
  19. I had this very same problem a few months back and posted a query similar to yours with no feed back. I now know for a fact that the guys making the said bushes had a dud run. I now run OME bushes and am a happy man. Adam
  20. Yes it was meant for you - now you know that there is another guy in the world with an identical name. PS. Thanks for having us all to stay. Adam
  21. Been meaning to ask you for a while - Did you spend time in Africa as a kid because my little brother went to a school there with a guy with exactly the same name as yours? Adam
  22. I see you got my message and made the journey over here... Welcome Adam
  23. More than happy to add my humble contribution to the kitty . In fact if it ain't too expensive maybe it would be a good idea to keep this new forum free from control freaks who will govern the content, order the Mods about, kick the Mods off and then add insult to injury by pulling the plug.......Just an idea ps. paypal would be fine. Adam
  24. I'm here now too. In fact there will probably be quite a few arivees shortly as some one posted a non-clickable link to here on one of the "Worl Forum" posts back where I came from. Nice to have somewhere to go before they pull the plug on the other one. Adam
