  2. 4L80e Gearbox and speedo drive ? Hi I have a Chevy V8 with a 4L80e gearbox matted to it and just bought a adapter kit to fit it to a LT230 transfer box.The problem is I want to use a TD5 Dash, I have the complete wiring loom and the original clocks. Simon

  4. I want a sort over hang same as a 90 ,all RR classic's and Disco 1 and 11's 100". I thought i heard some where that they changed some time towards the end ???
  5. Which 100" Chassis ? Hi Think im going to build a 100" defender and in your opinion which is the best chassis as a starting point , RR classic,Disco or shortened 110 ?
  6. I think it will be the angle that will be the problem the shorter i go, thin it could end up only being 350mm long !!! Maybe a 100" chassis rebuild would be better ??
  7. What would the shortest propshaft be that would run right ? My problem is that the engine+gearbox+transfer box is 300mm longer than a tdi+gearbox+transfer so maybe my question should have been put another way . May have to go to a 100" Chassis ?
  8. HELP ! , Defender 90 rear prop length ? Hi Can you please answer a question that is the last bit of the puzzle ( hopfully ! ) I have just finished stripping the chevy truck ready to start the build of my new project. I am using the 4L80e auto box and have been looking at using a lt230 transfer box but the cost of the conversion plate and they can't promise that it will fit as the 4l80e has a very long out put shaft to take the chevy transfer box. So thinking it maybe easyer to keep the Borgwarner 4401 transfer box from the truck. My problem is that I wanted to put it all into a Defender 90,the rover V8 + R380 + lt230 is 1400mm long but the chevy + 4l80e + Borgwarner 4401 transfer box is 1700mm long . So the question is how long is a 90 rear prop and what the shortest you could go to ? many thanks Simon
  9. Hi Its a Chevy 4x4 truck 120" wheel base. Was one of the GMC Taverns but it would need to many chevy parts to make complete again so was playing with the idea of fitting the 130 body.Would be a lot of work but seems a shame to break them all up and may be a good project. Regards Simon
  10. Help with car/chassis registration details Hi I have just bought an old 4x4 and was thinking about taking the old body off and putting a Land Rover 130 body on it. My question is would it need to me SVA tested ? I know when you build a kit car if you use the donner chassis then the car would keep the same registration and no test is needed ( I think ) Regards Simon

  13. I would agree but the cummions in 1100lb against the 6.5 turbo ( 215BHP & 440 lb-ft ) at about 700lb.I have a 6.2 GMC in my 110 and has the about the same preformance as my friends TD5 but add a turbo for £300 and you should be up to 190 BPH with no promlem at all.Propane injection is another add for $700 and that will add 60 BHP straight away !!!
  14. highfructosecornsyrp I'll have a look at what rads in mine tomorrow,I have fitted a twin electric fan setup and the temp gauge never gets to half way .
  15. Seems a lot of truble to go to but would love to do it. I have seen on Ebay defender 90's with 6.2 engines for sale and would have thought the 6.5 was the same weight ? I have fitted H/D springs and twin shocks to the front of my 110 and seems ok now with the 6.2 lump in it. Plasticbadger I see on the HMVF Forum that you brought only of the Tavens, thats what i was thinking about as the doner/parts. regards Simon
  16. I had a 130 V8 that was fitted wih under slug LPG tanks and wouldn't of changed it for the world.Still got a 88" with a 4ltr V8 and LPG in it.Fill up with gas for 54p per ltr and get 14-15 MPG so works out the same as a 300 TDI to run but much more fun !!
  17. Hi and thanks for the reply. Engine Chevy 6.5 Turbo Diesel 215 BHP and 440 lb-ft Tires size of 37" Will be used mainly for road week days and pay and ply site weekends. At the moment i am running a GMC 6.2 non turbo in my 110 with a R380 manual box and Salisbury Disc braked axles. They handle the Torque ok but the 6.2 only puts out 130 BHP and 240 lb-ft torque.Ok the reson for going for the Chevy engine is that I have been making Biodiesel for 5+ years now and they love the stuff even the 215 BHP 6.5 and can't forget the V8 sound !! I would love to stay with a Manual gearbox if I can . Many thanks Simon
  18. Hi i am looking for somw advice on a Gearbox and Axles that would be able to take up to 440 lb-ft (590 Nm)that will be fitted to my Landrover 90 project. Many thanks Simon
  19. Hi just wondering if anyone can shed any light on a problem that started today on my Defender 110,It is a bit of a Hybrid and has a R380 gearbox. It has started to vibrate but only under load and stops it i dip the clutch or free roll.I have checked all the obvious thing, wheel bearing, prop shaft UJ joint and gearbox mounts but all seem fine. any ideas to cheack would be grateful. many thanks simon
  20. Hi Has anybody seen or know of a raised air intake for the weber 500 carb as it has the round pancake filter ?? many thank simon
  21. Brought this 1958 S11 back in Febuary and sent out to change a few things ( we all know how it go's, think about changing wheels and end up changing engine, 3" lift etc )!. The S11 was already on a shortened range rover chassis but every thing esle was quite bad, it had been hand painted with about 4 coats over the years so i took it back to the ali and it is being sprayed as i type. The next step is to find some axles that wont break, she has a early R/R front and 90 back but with the 35" tyres i think the diffs will give in soon. Would be gratefull for advice please. I have not done much off road work before but would like to do some play days etc this year, my mates have all got discoverys and keep breaking diffs so one is just fitting LSD ( from KEM i think ) on the 24 spline axels. Is this the best way to go ?? many thanks simon
