  1. Well well well... I set the codes, unchanged but went through the modify route to 'update' them. Synced the key, and this time the RF test told me what key signals and been received, not "a signal has been received". So "key 1" or "key 2". All closed down and remotes working fine. I owe you a virtual beer (and a real one to be fair), thank you very much!
  2. I've got an older Nanocom, not the evolution but recognise the steps. I've done 2 and 3, not touched 1 as the code already matched the key, but for ruling it in/out I'll re-enter it, ta.
  3. Yes, which is the annoying part as that reports signal received from both keys, and no signal received when no buttons are pressed so seems to be working ok... which of course doesn't correlate with the remote not working.
  4. Hi, Just been out again for another play with it: 1. LED status is unchanged. Does not come on with lock button (on fob). Does not go off with unlock button. 2. Key and switch based central locking functions appear ok. Unlock drivers door on first turn, unlock the rest on subsequent turn 3. I assume so, but have enabled disarm with key so unable to test. As the LED status doesn't change, I assume the alarm is still active when using the remote. Of course, this means it's unlikely to be outside of the BCU, as those 'key' functions go through the BCU and take the same path as the remote from then on.
  5. Is that the one where you synch it where it reads the signal from the key rather than entering the code? If so, that's the one I was using. I'm wondering if the alarm/immobiliser bit has been working all along and it's just the locks that aren't functioning. Given that the BCM is reporting it's getting signals from the keys ok... and the alarm lives 'inside' the BCM. Perhaps it's the connection to the IDM or the IDM itself that is at fault. Of course I'm just banding about what I've understood since my original post - I don't have a detailed understanding of the IDM to know what it receives and what it does!
  6. I've been trying to diagnose this issue for a few weeks now with no success. Of course, by "trying to diagnose" I mean ordering some parts in the new year and not finding the motivation to try again until today. Symptoms: Car does not unlock by remote from either fob. Car unlocks through key fine and EKA works ok. Car is a 2001 Discovery, V8 if that makes a difference. When the issue first started, I used the EKA code and attempted to reprogram the keys through the Nanocom. This reported as "successful" though didn't work. I then ordered a new receiver unit as internet searching suggested it was next in line. I didn't get around to fitting this until today. I removed the old unit which didn't look too weathered but did show signs of corrosion from a previous sunroof leak. I cleaned the bolts from any surface rust and fitted the new unit. I refitted the battery, and no joy. I disarmed the immobiliser through the EKA again and tried recoding the keys again. Still no response from the keys. I checked the codes stored in the BCU through the Nanocom and these matched the keys. I performed an RF test and this was positive from both keys, and negative when no keys were pressed. Thus, I think I've ruled out the coding, and ruled out the receiver. What's next down the line? All the internet searching I do returns threads where issues are fixed when replacing the receiver so I can't find one where someone has had to investigate further. In my mind, if the BCU is getting the right codes from the keys, it should be behaving itself. I don't know what else is involved... Cheers, Dom
  7. slightly o/t, saw a few landrovers in west woods this afternoon, range rover, disco, dakar(?), defenders... anyone know who? wanted to make it to my first meeting this month but front prop had other ideas... one of these days!!
  8. alas, I need to replace the brakes and sort out a swivel pin Sunday. Still, next month!
  9. doh! Ah well, the disco isn't feeling too well anyway. What's this Swindon club? What am I missing out on?
  10. Fresh from the farm, and back when we used to get summers! and yes, I did notice I'd forgotten to put something back on before driving Finally... It's now a black hardtop, saw it for sale late last year but I can't find any photos of it anywhere...
  11. something like a rover 200 diesel? cheap, vaguely reliable, easy to run on veg oil...

    Sat's

I had General SAGs on my 90. Didn't push them to any limits off road (in that I didn't get stuck) and they were wholey amusing on road. Remember the humming they made, and the deep screech when locked up, much to my amusement and the bint in the ford ka's surprise. How do sats differ to sags?
  13. I've gone my whole driving life without a puncture... now had 5 screws in the same wheel this year! Only replaced it 2 months ago and it's gotten 2 in it already...
  14. I did the same with my 2.5TD engine... lots of white smoke, even pure water coming out of the exhaust. Well, dirty water. Had to clean out the air filter but other than that there were no adverse effects. I suppose the cheapest place to look is the airfilter, followed by the turbo, then the insides?
  15. don't think the other half will complain... it's a modern family if you know what I mean I'm pretty sure he'll like it. Plays with his matchbox 90 more than his other cars, although does have a nasty habit of removing the tyres from his discovery. Let's hope he grows out of this. Thanks for the encouragement
