  1. hi can anyone help me with a part number for the oil temp sender that fits into the sump on a V8?....................................many thanks
  2. Maybe I have not worded the post to reflect the problem 1) I think my high/low is stuck in what’s know as high range diff lock, ie over to the left and back 2) I cannot get it to go into low range diff lock ie over to the left and forward. In fact it’s stuck and will not for now come out of the position it’s in. Before on a previous event it also stuck, then I carried out the normal checks for example the linkage making sure it worked, as I said in the garage it all operated. However last weekend again it appears stuck/jammed in the over to the left and back position. I have not had time to strip it again and investigate as i am back at work, just doing some research to get ideas what to look for when i get back home and start working on the issue What I was wondering is it possible that the dog clutch has been jammed? Or the teeth stripped off the end? I had thought the transfer box 1.6 ratio would be for high speed as I am aware that all disco and defender transfer box low ratios are the same, but many thanks for clarify this.
  3. Can anyone help as i said i am having problems getting into diff lock before the last offroad event i changed the rod assembly and checked the lever was operating and in the garage i was able to select low and diff lock last weekend at the event i now i think i am stuck in low box and when trying to operate the lever it will not move from low to diff, the gear/diff gear knob moves from side to side so that part of the transfer box operates i am thinking that the internal parts of the low/diff are either broken or jammed in low, i have not yet stripped out the floor to look. so if the above description means i can not select diff lock what would cause this? if i change the top housing would this fix the problem? if it is inside the transfer box for example the dog clutch can i change this while the transfer box is in place (i dont think i can so just asking) as i do offraod events i can not be without diff lock or even worry if it will engage or not when i would need it so any info would be a great help. last question would a defender transfer box 1.6 ratio be better for offroading events? many thanks and sorry for the long post
  4. Team Idris the weekend before i found the diff lock wouldnt stay in place kept jumping out of diff lock, so i got the part numbers from Ralph and relaced the link arm and made sure everything was working in the gargage offroading last weekend when i engagaed what i thought was diff lock, the high low will now not move, its stuck either in low or diff???? i havent had a chance to look at it yet to find out why
  5. Help i have attached a drawing showing the hilighted dog clutch (not sure of the name) on a defender transfer box, if this was damaged then would that mean i can not engage diff lock on my transfer box? also if this is damaged is it a hard job to replace? as always any help would be great dog clutch transfer box.pdf
  6. fitted me spare radiator and everything good, working as it should changed the oil etc etc etc ran the engine and flushed the cooling system with several fills of fairy washing up liquid and got rid of all the sh**e lesson learnt about over tightening the oil cooler pipes
  7. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this makes sense as the top threaded bit turned about 180 degrees so once I get the radiator sorted how do I get the oil out of the cooling system?
  8. how hard/easy is it to damage the internal oil cooler on a 300tdi radiator? what I mean I have just fitted a new top oil hose to the cooler on the right side of the radiator, topped up the radiator with coolant as I had the bottom water hose off the radiator and ran the engine for about 30 seconds and went to check the water level to find black engine oil in the water header tank??? the only thing I can think is the internal pipe work on the oil cooler has been damaged? surely its not a head gasket?????????
  9. ralph yes found this link AFTER posting for part numbers......................................cheers
  10. Ralph once again you have all the answers at hand many thanks this is what I wanted.......................................................thank you
  11. hello all I need the part numbers for the following items on a 300tdi transfer box, I may not have described them correctly so bear with me 1) high/low control arm/ box that bolts on top of the transfer box, the one with the arm that shifts from high to low 2) the adjustable rod from the high/low gear knob that connects to the arm on the above control arm/box 3) the high/low indicator switch that of course screws into the transfer box any part numbers would be a great help.................................as always many thanks
  12. ok update checked everything, adjusted nothing changed nothing and now running sweet, go figure only a landrover can do this only thing I can think off I had the diesel tank out a few days ago and maybe a bit of dirt got sucked into the fuel system ah well cost me nothing to fix 1st time ever
  13. Hello 300tdi Defender engine Rebuilt engine and was running good, however it started to run a bit lumpy today while ticking over today, you would think it was running on 3 cylinders give it a few revs and its ok but when ticking over again lumpy it has only just started to do this Only about 2000miles on the engine, new injectors, new bosch reconditioned FIP, new lift pump, new timing belt all set up as per timing instructions Last night I checked Checked the injector’s by slacking the nut one by one on each cylinder no problems Opened the fuel filter bleed of with engine running lift pump working Opened the rocker cover and checked the tappets and made sure the adjusting screws on the tappets had not broken. Today Want to check the gauze filter on the lift pump???? What else can I look for?
  14. Hi Mate just done my belt mid week 1) lock fuel injection pump (correct tool or 9.5mm drill bit, it should be locked at about 11 oclock position) 2) set the cam wheel to the markings on the casing 3) turn the crank until the key way is at the 12 oclock position, the check under the bell housing wading plug and MAKE SURE the correct mark on the fly wheel is visable AND if you can or have the locking tool for the fly wheel use it with the fuel injection pump locked and pin in SLACK the 3 nuts on the timing (this will allow a bit of movement on the cog for fitting the belt) now when fitting the belt MAKE sure there is NO slack at the fixed tensioner and work the belt onto all the pullies adjust the moveable tensioner and the tighten the 3 bolts on the FIP, remove all pins for locking, turn crank 2 times and check all markings i hope this helps..........................Ivan
  15. tried to upload a foto but can't ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  16. Vulcan so how do i know if the spare i have is from an auto with EDC? ........................many thanks Ivan
  17. western fuel injection pump, i think my spare FIP has this EDC attached.....................................thanks Ivan
  18. hi folks will a fuel pump from a 300tdi discovery auto fit my manual 300tdi defender????? are there any differences? many thanks Ivan
  19. thanks Western the supplier never said a word, have u any idea what size of resistor to fit???
  20. Have just fitted and wired in LED rear light clusters on my 300tdi, however the indicators are flashing to fast as if there was a lamp not working. I know the LEDs use less current but why do they flash faster? When the hazards are switched on all lights flash as normal. Is there a fix for this for example fit a resistor in the circuit?
  21. ok lads it appears its all down to the earthing, due home next week so i see my first job is checking the earthing deep joy, many thanks for pointing me in the right direction :D
  22. Yes i was thinking that as well, but where to start looking ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  23. Hello help needed Just finished fitting a TD5 dash etc into my 300tdi defender using all the information from this forum, excellent write up by everyone so many thanks. However i have a problem with the temp gauge sometimes it goes right of the scale i.e. into the red, and then back to normal I know the temp is normal in the landy what could it be that’s casing this to happen? I followed the write up and changed the temp sender unit on the engine. It seems to happen when I apply the brakes or turn on the heater (yes I know a defender with a heater pure luxury) or sometimes just driving along, it’s doing my head in to find why this is happening and advice from the experts????? What to check and what to look for?? Many thanks Ivan
  24. yes lads found the link very good reading and doable Retroanaconda do i need the wire loom YMG109280 ???????????? or should this come with the dash cluster????????????????? many thanks lads, just want to get the facts so i can search for the parts
