  1. I have a tin of it, if you'd like to buy it. £200 per litre, but shipping is costly as it has to travel via both poles to be correctly magnetised, so that's £400 per litre. But I did put "4x4" on the label, so it's worth it.

Being where you are, i think you need a tin of each :o .

  2. It's a real pain ordering parts from the UK because I have to specify "reverse rotational paint" and it always costs extra!

Many an Aussie has been caught out like this, thats why i have a 20ltr drum of anti-clockwise paint to repaint all my spares.

  3. I think you need to replace the whole housing, the patrol ZD30 uses a similar garret GT2052V turbo as a TD5 but with variable nozzle technology, otherwise the Portuguese mob TD5 alive i think it is sell a hybrid turbo that is a bolt in job for reasonable money.

  4. what was the go with the joker in the challenger?

Apparently the night before we found him he had swerved to miss a big roo and ended up in the ditch, he wasnt from our group.

When we arrived on the scene his old man in his 2wd ute was trying to pull him out with a strap wrapped around his towball.

  5. Time constraints will determine where you should go, distances can be huge but then area's like the Vic high country that DaveW mentioned is reasonably compact.

I wouldnt be going to the west unless you have a good amount of time otherwise you will spend most of it driving, again time of year is important as well.

  6. Every August a group of Victorian AULRO forum members get together for a spit roast in the bush, Wombat State Park is approx. 1hr NW of Melbourne and for me an easy 1hr15mins towing my camper trailer.

Traditionally this weekend is the coldest of our winter with daytime temps of 8-12c and overnight down to -6.7c , this year it was fairly mild with Friday night getting close to 0 and Saturday night a bit warmer like 3-4c.

Not really a problem as we have a roaring fire and after a few drinks you dont notice the cold , there are a lot of good varied tracks thru out the area from scenic drives to hard tracks with huge bog holes and steep slippery and muddy hills.

Saturday is our trips day in case we get caught on tough tracks or spend too much time recovering vehicles , i didnt get a lot of pics but here are some of what i did get.

  7. A few pic's Mr Hangover if possible ? Always good to see a pic or two :)

A good outcome then , will you get the old head tested to see where the failure(s) are ?

    cheers

    Steveb

I already knew where it failed, core plug at rear of head was leaking although it was a combination of the head, viscous on its way out and partially blocked radiator so the core plug was just the last piece of the puzzle.

The removed head is only 2yo so will get it checked and skimmed and sit it on the a shelf in the shed until i can find a cheap short motor to rebuild.

  8. Thought i should provide an update, had my spare head hardness tested then skimmed then fitted a new elring composite gasket and new head bolts.

Combined with the new viscous fan clutch and reco'd radiator its running very cool and as smooth as ever (for a tdi ), should be good for another 360K klms.
