Had the same issue a few weeks ago. Solution in our case was to change the oil and filter. The pressure switch is downstream the filter, and with it being clogged, needed some revs to push the oil through.
Its fearsomely low geared, even in hi range. Max comfortable "cruise" is about 70kmh with high revs. Plenty of pull, though, with the low gearing, and terrible fuel consumption. Wonderful truck!
Like the site. Need to check the chassis number, but looks like we have a 1 tonner here in Norway. Our S3 is ex Norwegian army, its possible all their S3s were 1 tonne vehicles. The guy who sold the Landies to the Norwegians back in the 70s lives just down the road, I'll ask him.
Although its a replacement chassis, its a civilian one - the rear x-member tapers at the ends, a military one is rectangular. If it was like-for-like replacement, then its a civvy landy. Also, the bonnet isn't right for an ex-mil S3 - should have a rounded profile at the front lip. Could be a replacement as well, of course.

To quote Mr Manuel, of Fawlty Towers fame - "I know naathin!" How would one go about checking fuel vaporisation?

Could be fuel vaporisatipn as it passes through under the bonnet; maybe your pump is tired & isn't shifting the fuel like it should, or the filter gauze is plugged or maybe damaged diaphragm? Test by taking fuel line off at carb & cranking the engine over. Catch the fuel in a can, and ideally make sure the dizzy isnt sparking!
