  1. I don't think it was an informal nickname. The sticker on the window is official looking and I've seen an Mod document which refers to the added weight as a result of the Shoehorn modification. They definitely had an extra anti roll bar as a result of the Bowman fit. Maybe that's all it was? The anti roll bar apparently added an extra 150kg to the gross vehicle weight.
  2. Great, thanks very much.. My military contacts didn't have a clue!!
  3. Ok, I'm starting to understand what Shoehorn was now... When the Bowman radio system replaced the Clansman, the vehicle units were 3 times heavier and apparently even broke an axle on a Wolf. Hence the Wolf 90 were withdrawn from service and the TUM were upgraded to accommodate the weight. (Post design project Shoehorn!) I'm still not exactly sure what these upgrades were. There is mention of an extra roll bar and even stronger axles but nothing has been confirmed as yet.. I'll keep digging... Apparently the work was done in house by ABRO so I've requested some info from them.
  4. I'll keep you posted... Put it out to a few military forums.. Nothing as yet?? Must be very secret!!!! Might give the freedom of info act a crack..
  5. Hi all.. Does anybody know what this? I've got a 110XD which has the REMUS upgrade and a sticker in the window which says 'operation Shoehorn modified' I can't find anything in the web apart from a revised weight due to Shoehorn mod! Thanks
  6. Hi.. You need to request a V55/5 from DVLA to register. It takes a week or two to send out. In the meantime call Adrian Flux and get chassis only insurance (doesn't cost any extra, you just tell them the reg number when it's issued) The next step is MOT on chassis number, you'll obviously need to trailer it there which is a pain due to its size. Once you have the MOT and insurance you send the lot off to DVLA with the 654 (Withams are notoriously bad at passing these on and it costs £25 to get another!) Don't worry about all the boxes on the V55/5 just do the easy ones like weight, engine size etc. Once they see the 654 they are happy and get the V5 out within the week. Good luck.. I've done a few of these recently and it's a pretty easy, quick process.
  7. Hi.. I'm currently rebuilding a 110 Wolf and just need the part number for a front offside wing. I've found part numbers for everything else just searching the web but can't find a wing and not sure how it differs from a standard 300tdi. Can anybody with a Military parts catalogue assist me at all? Many thanks Steve
  8. My 2002 TD5 is behaving the same .. only squeals when i turn right though.. Has anybody found out the cause yet? Its driving me nuts... Thanks.
  9. Thanks again Gromit... i'll give that a go.
  10. Funny you say that about the duck... it actually sounds just like that! sounds like its coming more from the rear, only really notice it at slow speeds and tight corners like junctions or mini roundabouts. Then as i straighten up and accelerate it makes about 6 or 7 quacks!!! Like the wheel bearing idea.... well, i don't like it as such but its very likely. Thanks Gromit.
  11. Hi Guys.. I have a 2002 110 double cab. When i turn right, there is a strange 'honking'/rubbing noise coming from the rear underside. This only happens with a right turn. I'm completely stumped with this one... has anybody got any idea's? Thanks.
  12. My previous 1989 90 V8 was flattened by a tree and 'written off.' When i spoke to my broker about valuations, he said they will start with the lowest price between your original purchase price or current 'book' value. I only paid £1500 for it and i had no idea about book price, so i was worried. In the end i argued that when i purchased the vehicle it wasn't road worthy and i spent £2000 in repairs... luckily they went for book price which was £3500!!! My advice is quote high and leave it for them to work out should the worst happen. You might get a nice surprise, like i did.
  13. Hi guys.. I have just added a wire-in performance upgrade to my 2002, 110 TD5. When i disconnected the red ECU plug, i noticed oil within the plug and all over the wires. It looks like oil is running along the wires from the engine and collecting in the large plug. Has anybody else experienced this? Or any ideas whats causing this? Regards. Steve.
