  1. thanks for that. just sent him a message. at least that would be one out of two sorted...
  2. thanks mondo. i'll get in touch with Dunsfolds... Come on the rest of you guys - are these things really that rare???
  3. thanks for the reply Diff. the whole area where the hole is appears very thin. Im afraid that when i have them blasted, the complete area will disappear. Where can i get replacement cases. ive looked at craddocks and paddocks but they dont seem to list the casings..
  4. Decided to make a start refurbing a pair of disco axles i bought for my 90 build. Unfortunately they have been stored outside in the elements, and upon getting all the carp off them i discovered real bad corrosion. I believe the corrosion is where the bump-stops will go - just behind the rollbar mounting point. The corrosion is bad enough that after a quick clean it has gone into a hole. Is it worth my while going ahead and getting them blasted to see what they will be like or should i bin them when there this bad? I seem to remember a shop on ebay selling new casings a few months back but i cant find them now - typical...Whats your opinions guys..
  5. that would make for a cracking base. bang goes the classic insurance though...
  6. sbc unreliable?????? It certainly doesnt suffer slipping liners.....
  7. It is verified yes. Aparently although its a small block, it has a stroker kit in it which i think has taken it out to 383? Oh and the kit utilises a forged crank - yeehaa!!
  8. thanks fella. i'll keep you in mind but i dont even know if im doing this yet. im still in the 'is there too much work involved in this' stage....
  9. Steve The engine in question is producing 420HP and about the same torque - to me at least that is v powerful. I may however (if i go ahead with this) change the cam for a little less power and more torque. But then with 420 lb/ft will i need to..... As previously mentioned i will be running full ms/edis so that takes care of the dizzy and fuelling. Its just dimensions i really need. Thanks for telling me that about the LT95 though - i didnt realise it could take that much!
  10. Hi Fridge. I had already planned on using Ashcroft half-shafts, cv's and ARB's anyway so that would take care of the axles i hope. I would also be using MS/EDIS as well. As you say its the gearbox/transfer case issue that concerns me a little - what i save on the engine i could spend on this! I take it the SBC would be waaaaay to much for a strengthened R380???
  11. I had been planning to drop my RV8 into my 90, however a friend has dropped a bombshell on me in the form of a VERY powerful small block chevy. To get the same kind of power/torque from the rover would cost £££££! Now before i buy it i need to know a few things. I H.A.T.E auto boxes. It absolutely has to use a manual so what box would be best? It also must be nice to use and not a real 'stirrer'. If anyone has done this, where do the engine and gearbox mounts go in relation to the usual position. This is important to know so that i can inform Richards of where to put them on my new chassis. Is there any way of doing this without hacking big-time into the bulkhead or floor panels?
  12. 'Stately' and 'Diesel'...Now theres two terms that belong together..
  13. Yep. TDV8 would be awesome....However compared to a good RV8 its going to be mega ££££££ for many a year, to stick one of them in!
  14. '.....In 2005, more people were killed or injured in Colombia by landmines than in any other country in the world. When travelling in rural areas you should always follow local warnings about the presence of landmines.....' Jeepers! You would have thought that mantle would have went to Iraq or somewhere close. It would take more than a heavy-duty 3mm chassis to stop one of those putting a spoiler on your day. Playmore with claymore.....!
  15. Err no. Ive never talked to V8 LR owner that complained about lack of low down torque. Trust me, when you've tried a good V8 you will want to put that coal-burner where it belongs - in a generator...
  16. No. In the case of North Offroad it just means that they are very busy. Sometimes best to phone rather than e-mail...
  17. The site does look good. None of my mates have heard of 'em either, but i'll try and get along in the next weekend or two and have a little look at their operation.
  18. No problem fella. Im only too pleased you pointed them out, as ive never heard of them before even though im so close.. Its also good that their chassis are from richards as opposed to designa. The general consensus is that richards edges them for quality.
  19. If theres anything you want me to go in and find out for you, just let me know. Im only a couple of miles up the road from them..
  20. www.northoffroad.co.uk Address for ya. These guys are to be reocommended..Very helpful
  21. Please accept my apologies Steve. Ive just been going through some old posts and stumbled back upon this. For some reason i do not have a PM from yourself - i would have replied to it. As regards the photos, ive been looking high and low for them to mail to you but i cant for the life of me find them again. They were on another forum Once again sorry for not replying, im not ignorant - honest...
  22. I seeeee. Did they actually reply to your enquiry then?
  23. I havent used them, but ive sent them a mail to ask if they are producing their own chassis or re-selling someone else's (ie Marslands etc). We shall see. Where do you hail from wunntenn?
