  1. Again thanks for the great tips. The battery is full and checked (replaced it with another one) but got the same result. only clicking. Will try checking the wires this weekend. Do they go from the ignition switch straight to the starter or are the coming from somewhere else? Are there places where they are most likely to break/come loose? Thanks again.
  2. All, last night I tried the 110 but it would not start. It is a 200tdi defender engine (former 2,5 na) So the symptoms: - battery is fairly New 100 Ah. - all electrics work ( lights etc.) - If i turn the key the glow light, battery light and oil light light up as normal - I hear a clicking sound from around the fusebox (start relais?) - nothing else..... the starter does nothing. I searched the forum but I cant figure out what to do/check. How do I check the starter. I can’t really see any wires going to it. Does anybodu gave a step by step check (with pictures) so I can find out what is wrong. Thanks!!
  3. WoW Thanks for all the great tips! seems I have a Nice weekend to look forward to.
  4. All, I’m finally driving my 110 again after (partially) rebuilding it in the last years. It came back together reasonably well (It’s my first car and first rebuild). In the past the 110 drove quite well. Not to much play in the steering and power steering was reasonably consistent. However, this has now changed. It feels very vague and the amount of power assistance seems to differ. What I deed in the rebuild: I changed the bushings in the steering and also the collapsible steering joint. I filled up the PAS fluid; Changed the tyres from 7.50 x 16 to 235/85/16; It’s a 6 bolt steering box (RHD), I don’t hear any strange noises/wining or anything. Sounds normal but the steering is quite tricky. Any ideas what could be the problem? Cheers,
  5. All, Sorry for the delayed respons but the new printed circuit did the trick. Everything works now! Many thanks for all the help! Just some other issues to sort out now but I'll start a new thread for those. Cheers,
  6. Hi guys, A quick update. Tried again today without any luck. All the earth connectors are clean and should work fine. I asked around but the printed circuit is not available anymore for the older versions. Reverse also not yet working but I'l take a go at that one next weekend. cheers,
  7. hi Western, Again thanks for the advice. I checked all the earth connections but they seem fine. The printed circuit seems fine as well but it's hard to tell. I think i'll start by replacing this because it's not unlikely that it has broken after all these years. Any idea what the partnumber is for a 1985 110 2.5 na diesel? I can only find the later ones. 1993> Furthermore the reverse lights don't seem to work. any idea what could be the problem? There is no voltage on the wires at the switch on the gearbox nor on the bulkhead. cheers. Dolf
  8. HI, Currently working on the car. There is one black cable on the bulkhead (engine side) right above the clutch cilinder. it is clean and doesn't seem to have anything to do with the dash lights. Is it normal that if you take out one of the warning lights (for instance fog light) that the complete row stops working? Could the dash unit be faulty? any other tips are very welcome....! cheers, Dolf
  9. hi, thanks for the advise. Does anybody have a drawing with all the earths on it? cheers, Dolf
  10. Hi all, I'm finishing the rebuilt of my 1985 one ten stw and I'm running in to a electrical problem. All the lights work fine but for some strange reason the warning lights on the dashboard don't werk properly. If I turn on the headlights/rear lights the orange rear fog light indicator light on the dashboard goes on. The green light on the dashboard glows just a bit. Like really softly. I checked all the fuses and they are fine. Also quite strange, if I remove the bulbub of the rear fog light indicator on the dashboard the green light goes out completely. any advise? cheers, Dolf
  11. hi, my pockets aren't steep enough for a tdv6 and also I would like to have a relatively simple engine. The iveco engines seem quite strong and reliable. a nice 2.8 or even a 3.0 seems very nice. anybody have any experience with these engines?
  12. hi, thanks for the replies. there is an exemption for petrol but I don't want to go the petrol way. I did not see the mercedes threads. Will look for them. But does anybody know if a engine and gearbox from a iveco massif or santana will fit? I would love to have a nice strong diesel so the iveco's look really interesting cheers
  13. ideally I'm looking for a nice and strong engine (euro4) which is easy to maintain and fits under the original bonnet. would a engine from a santana ps10 or iveco massif fit?
  14. Hi, I am sorry, I'm from Utrecht, the Netherlands. Cheers
  15. Hi guys Been a while since my last post but I'm looking for a modern diesel to put in my 1985 110. It now has a 200tdi defender block in it but because of a ruling of the town council I will not permitted to drive it trough the city starting from 2015. So now I'm looking for a modern engine (it needs to be euro4) and if possible I would like to keep the original bonnet so no Puma bump. I was looking at the iveco diesels as the seem to be very reliable and parts wouldn't be a problem. I would love to hear your opinions. cheers,
  16. Thanks guys, I'm afraid I will just have to try to get the x member of. cheers,
  17. ok, but when I'm under the car there is not enough room to get one end over the crossmember and the other end towards the turbo. Do you jack up the car or use a bridge?
  18. Thanks for the help. It's all hooked up now except the frontpipe from the exhaust. I can't get it in. It looks like I need to remove the crossmember underneath the gearbox. But this surely can't be the case, right? How do you get the frontpipe in? what am I missing. cheers
  19. Hi guys. I just replaced my old 2.5 NA for a 200tdi defender engine and all is going well except I don't have a clue how to hook op the fuel lines and electrics. Especially the fuel lines seem to be completely different from the old 2.5 NA. Does somebody have a picture or drawing of how it all should run? greetings, Marieholm
  20. Ok thanks a lot guys. That saves me a heap of work!
  21. hi guy's sorry to just barge in without a proper introduction but i'm in kind of a pickle. Last summer I bought a 1985 110 2.5 NA. last month the engine died on me and know I'm busy replacing it with a 200tdi Defender engine. All is going to plan except I forgot to place the FRC3416 clutch staple and know I'm not sure if I need to take the engine out to fit it or just to leave it and take my chances. Les Hanson, if I understand you correctly the staple is not really necessary? Hope to here from you soon, Kind regards, Marieholm
