  1. well after taking it a second garage to check it they did 4 block tests which were fine and then the 5th one failed so I've been told a new engine is required.. so spent £1300 with all bit etc and it should have just be scrapped... anyone know of where to get a good recon TD5 engine?
  2. definitely worth checking, thanks for that
  3. yes its hot steam coming out but I will replace the cap anyway as they are £5 one suggestion someone has just said to me is that it could be a crack in one of the inlet ports allowing for turbo boost pressure into the coolant system when you give it max power......so, does anyone know the process followed by companies when they skim the head as I would assume they test it first to confirm no cracks, otherwise the skim will just be a complete waste of time..??
  4. thanks for that, i'll check the core plug its a year 2000
  5. no I've not replaced that one but I did notice the inside spring seems to be pushed over...... could that really have the result I am finding? you can drive it around normally with no problem, its just when you push it hard it comes out the expansion tank
  6. so would you suggest taking the heater matrix out and flushing it or can I just disconnect the 2 pipes and put hose pipe down one so it comes out the other one? i'll also look at the pipes for soft points thanks for help, much appreciated
  7. they are saying compression test showing nothing, so could be a blockage somewhere and maybe fuel cooler I'm going out of my head on this.....any further suggestions would be much appreciated before I take it to the edge of a cliff and push it off!
  8. unfortunately not......lot of carp came out but still blows coolant out expansion tank when you give it some reverses! maybe O rings on the fuel cooler? - or am I just grabbing at straws?
  9. Indeed, I have ordered one for £90 and will change it Thanks
  10. he has just quoted me £260 for a new radiator, but am I missing something as I believe they are about £95....? thanks
  11. they are saying that if you pour water in, then water comes out the bottom, so I'm really confused now!
  12. so I've just been told by the garage that the bottom part of the radiator isn't getting hot any thoughts?
  13. if the plastic dowels were not replaced when doing the head, would this cause this problem?
  14. the radiator is a bit clogged up but would this really cause that amount of water lose?
  15. Hi I have a Defender TD5, year 2000 and recently I've had some serious overheating issues. It first occurred when I was on the M25 and all of a sudden the gauge got very high so I pulled over and steam was coming out of the expansion tank. I then put 10 litres in and went on my way, which worked fine, then on the way back (so having travelled about 60 miles) the same happened again and the tank appeared to be empty again. Since then its got worse and there are no visible leaks from any pipes so I was very confused. Having taken it to the garage they have replaced the Thermostat, Water pump, heat gasket and had the head skimmed, but still the problem persists. Anyone please got any suggestions? Thanks
  16. is there a specific way to alight the doors as the one with the biggest issue has a new bottom part Thanks
  17. Blimey 52 people have viewed this but no one has any suggestions.......surely I can't be the only person who has had this issue?
  18. Hi I recently bought some new bolts that go between the top and bottom part of the doors on my WOLF, unfortunately the doors are now very straight but the door tops stick out and don't sit against the main door rubbers at all. Looks like the only way this can be done is to bend the bolts.....really? Any suggestions? Thanks
  19. well it was sold within 2 days of advertising and the price was north of what was suggested.......in fact I've had 3 others wanting to buy it for the price it was sold, so I've very pleased with all the work/ hours I put in to get that price.
  20. not a spot of rust on it, its been fully waxoyled etc as well..... unfortunately for that money I'd just keep it myself whilst I work on my WOLF, but thanks for the advise
  21. Hi Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I have finally finished my project, which is an ex-MOD Defender 2.5n/a, 1987 with 98,000kilometres and just passed MOT, so has 12 months and 6 months tax. I'm after suggestions of where to advertise it and how much people think its worth.. Any suggestions welcome Thanks
  22. ignore that, i know its not a big job
  23. Hi I just picked up a 1998 WOLF and whilst test driving it i had no problems with the clutch although it did seem a bit 2 stage (from floor to half way did nothing, then it strung into action)......i checked the clutch fluid and it was full but very darl brown so god knows how long that had been in there. anyway, on my drive back and when i got in to traffic i found that it started getting stuck on the floor when i used it and i had to put my toe under it to spring it back up.....not easy! I've now changed the fluid and its much better and doesn't have any 2 stage feeling any more, but it does feel like it still wants to get stuck, albeit not as much Any thoughts?
