Looks like this is gonna happen in early September now. We have just had our mortgage in principle approved for our first house so that's the priority for our time and money for the next couple of months (on the upside, the house we are looking at has a garage)

Cheers Si..... I'm sure we can avoid the cooking. Haha. My other half was reading a blog about a Land Rover trip to Norway yesterday and she's really got the bug for this trip now. Even talk of a roof tent (budget won't allow that this time round) for future trips if she enjoys this.

Still in the early stages of planning this and it's probably not much more than a glorified camping trip but I'm planning a 7-10 day trip with my girlfriend (Sarah), starting in Liverpool (home) with overnight stops at Loch Lomond, John O Groats, Somewhere around Northumbria (undecided), The Lake District, Then Cornwall and back to Liverpool. Along the way we are going to visit my brother in Barrhead (not for long enough that his wife might cook for us though :sick: ) a short stop in Edinburgh, and we are still looking at ideas for other short stops on the longer driving sections. I'm planning on stopping for at least 3 nights in the lakes and maybe 2-3 nights in Cornwall with some greenlaning thrown in while I'm there. We've never done a "driving holiday" but we'd like to the same sort of thing around Europe in the future so we are looking at this as practice for loading the Disco and packing etc. We haven't set any dates in stone yet because we are hopefully buying our first house in the new year so it all depends how quickly that goes but when we have dates in mind, it would be cool to meet up with some people for greenlaning or a beer in a local pub on the overnight stops. I'll keep this thread updated with our plans and the actual trip when we eventually set off and I'd love any advice the wiser folk on here have. Mark. Thanks for the info folks. I'll be fitting a 2 inch lift via terrafima spacer blocks so that i can retain the SLS. Additionally i will be using offset modular wheels to try and counter the reduced steering lock. As for the gearing issue, it pulls better than i expected so i can live with reduced acceleration. The speedo over reads slightly anyway so it might correct itself.

Hi all. I've recently scrapped my old 300tdi discovery and replaced it with a pre face lift Td5 which is sitting on some worn but usable 255/55/18 Falken road biased tyres. Shortly before i scrapped the 300 i bought 4 brand new 235/85/16 BFG AT's for it and when i scrapped it, i rescued them. I know the modular wheels i had them on WONT fit the Td5 hubs but if i was to buy a set of 16 inch disco 2 wheels, would i have to make any modifications to get them to fit the newer disco. I have done a fair amount of searching and come up blank so far.

Also, outwards opening doors are harder to kick in from a security point of view. But the getting out in a rush when you hammer/saw/pierce yourself inevitably, would be a definite consideration of mine because I am that accident prone.

I used some stuff called "Sticks like sh*t" (yes thats really the product name) about 18 months ago and its still drip free although im intending to remove both my sunroofs and weld them up in the near future as i dont use them anyway as a precaution. I got it in screwfix.

I dont pretend to understand the gearing etc but i have had 4 different tyre sizes on my disco as follows :- 205/80/16 road tyres when i bought it. It could achive 75-80 comfortably on these but was very slow to pick up. I replaced those with a set of 235/70/16 mud tyres and apart from increased road noise i found no difference in the acceleration or comfortable cruising speed. These were replaced by 235/85/16 all terrains and then i found it was noticeably faster to accelerate but 80 was a struggle. I now also have a set of mud terrains in 265/75/16 flavour and these perform much the same as the all terrains in terms of acceleration and comfortable cruising. Mark

Slight thread hijack but i feel its a relevant question. What do people use to clean up after their landy has leaked (marked its territory) on the driveway?

MIne has a 2 inch lift using Terrafirma shocks and medium duty springs and i have done all sorts off road without changing brake hoses etc. and suffered no ill effects.

You would think they would do this in February when people have money again. I would have bought a mig welder to start my Discovery rebuild but Christmas has wiped me out.
